Linus Torvalds b8edf848e9 Merge tag 'multiplatform' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc
Pull ARM SoC multiplatform conversion patches from Olof Johansson:
"Here are more patches in the progression towards multiplatform, sparse
  irq conversions in particular.

Tegra has a handful of cleanups and general groundwork, but is not
quite there yet on full enablement.

Platforms that are enabled through this branch are VT8500 and Zynq.
Note that i.MX was converted in one of the earlier cleanup branches as
well (before we started a separate topic for multiplatform). And both
new platforms for this merge window, sunxi and bcm, were merged with
  multiplatform support enabled."

Fix up conflicts mostly as per Olof.

Linus Torvalds db5b0ae007 Merge tag 'dt' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc
Pull ARM SoC device tree conversions and enablement from Olof Johansson:
"Continued device tree conversion and enablement across a number of
platforms; Kirkwood, tegra, i.MX, Exynos, zynq and a couple of other
  smaller series as well.

ux500 has seen continued conversion for platforms. Several platforms
have seen pinctrl-via-devicetree conversions for simpler
multiplatform. Tegra is adding data for new devices/drivers, and
Exynos has a bunch of new bindings and devices added as well.

So, pretty much the same progression in the right direction as the
  last few releases."

Kirill A. Shutemov 79da5407ee thp: introduce sysfs knob to disable huge zero page
By default kernel tries to use huge zero page on read page fault. It's
possible to disable huge zero page by writing 0 or enable it back by
writing 1:

echo 0 >/sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/khugepaged/use_zero_page
echo 1 >/sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/khugepaged/use_zero_page

Kirill A. Shutemov d8a8e1f0da thp, vmstat: implement HZP_ALLOC and HZP_ALLOC_FAILED events
hzp_alloc is incremented every time a huge zero page is successfully
allocated. It includes allocations which where dropped due
race with other allocation. Note, it doesn't count every map
of the huge zero page, only its allocation.

hzp_alloc_failed is incremented if kernel fails to allocate huge zero
page and falls back to using small pages.

Kirill A. Shutemov e180377f1a thp: change split_huge_page_pmd() interface
Pass vma instead of mm and add address parameter.

In most cases we already have vma on the stack. We provides
split_huge_page_pmd_mm() for few cases when we have mm, but not vma.

This change is preparation to huge zero pmd splitting implementation.

Pull ARM SoC updates from Olof Johansson:
"This contains the bulk of new SoC development for this merge window.

Two new platforms have been added, the sunxi platforms (Allwinner A1x
SoCs) by Maxime Ripard, and a generic Broadcom platform for a new
series of ARMv7 platforms from them, where the hope is that we can
keep the platform code generic enough to have them all share one mach
directory. The new Broadcom platform is contributed by Christian
  Daudt.

Highbank has grown support for Calxeda's next generation of hardware,
  ECX-2000.

clps711x has seen a lot of cleanup from Alexander Shiyan, and he's
also taken on maintainership of the platform.

Beyond this there has been a bunch of work from a number of people on
converting more platforms to IRQ domains, pinctrl conversion, cleanup

growfs: don't read garbage for new secondary superblocks") with later
updates to the affected code in the XFS tree.

Linus Torvalds d206e09036 Merge branch 'for-3.8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tj/cgroup
Pull cgroup changes from Tejun Heo:
"A lot of activities on cgroup side. The big changes are focused on
  making cgroup hierarchy handling saner.

   - cgroup_rmdir() had peculiar semantics - it allowed cgroup
destruction to be vetoed by individual controllers and tried to
drain refcnt synchronously. The vetoing never worked properly and
caused good deal of contortions in cgroup. memcg was the last
reamining user. Michal Hocko removed the usage and cgroup_rmdir()
path has been simplified significantly. This was done in a
separate branch so that the memcg people can base further memcg
     changes on top.

   - The above allowed cleaning up cgroup lifecycle management and
implementation of generic cgroup iterators which are used to
     improve hierarchy support.

   - cgroup_freezer updated to allow migration in and out of a frozen
cgroup and handle hierarchy. If a cgroup is frozen, all descendant
     cgroups are frozen.

   - netcls_cgroup and netprio_cgroup updated to handle hierarchy
     properly.

   - Various fixes and cleanups.

   - Two merge commits. One to pull in memcg and rmdir cleanups (needed
to build iterators). The other pulled in cgroup/for-3.7-fixes for
device_cgroup fixes so that further device_cgroup patches can be
     stacked on top."

Fixed up a trivial conflict in mm/memcontrol.c as per Tejun (due to
commit bea8c150a7 ("memcg: fix hotplugged memory zone oops") in master
touching code close to commit 2ef37d3fe4 ("memcg: Simplify
mem_cgroup_force_empty_list error handling") in for-3.8)

Linus Torvalds 74b8423345 Merge branch 'x86-bsp-hotplug-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull x86 BSP hotplug changes from Ingo Molnar:
"This tree enables CPU#0 (the boot processor) to be onlined/offlined on
x86, just like any other CPU. Enabled on Intel CPUs for now.

Allowing this required the identification and fixing of latent CPU#0
assumptions (such as CPU#0 initializations, etc.) in the x86
architecture code, plus the identification of barriers to
BSP-offlining, such as active PIC interrupts which can only be
  serviced on the BSP.

  It's behind a default-off option, and there's a debug option that
allows the automatic testing of this feature.

The motivation of this feature is to allow and prepare for true
CPU-hotplug hardware support: recent changes to MCE support enable us
to detect a deteriorating but not yet hard-failing L1/L2 cache on a
CPU that could be soft-unplugged - or a failing L3 cache on a
  multi-socket system.

Note that true hardware hot-plug is not yet fully enabled by this,
because that requires a special platform wakeup sequence to be sent to
the freshly powered up CPU#0. Future patches for this are planned,
once such a platform exists. Chicken and egg"
