eb69e55005 Bug 973090 - IPC remoting for child GC/CC logging. r=mccr8, r=bent 
This has a few semi-interdependent pieces:

* Factoring out the file opening/closing/renaming from the GC/CC logging.

* Using IPC to have the child log to files that the parent opened.

* Changing nsIMemoryInfoDumper.dumpGCAndCCLogsToFile to report completion
  of child process logging (which was impossible before this, and which is
  needed to have a meaningful test case).

* Changing about:memory to dump logs for child processes, matching the
  behavior of the "Measure" button, because it can tell the user where
  they are now.

* Add a test for multiprocess GC/CC log dumping (only of the XPCOM
  interface, not by clicking buttons and scraping the about:memory page,
  but done as a chrome mochitest to start remote browsers); based on
  test_memoryReporters2.xul in the same directory.

e62951375f Bug 1005500 - Use a separate linear scan pass to mark nodes white in ScanRoots. r=smaug 
The existing code for ScanRoots looks at all traversal roots in the graph,
and floods white or black from them. This can take up a large chunk of the
Scan/Unlink slice of ICC, maybe because graph traversal has poor locality.

Outside of a leak, the cycle collector graph is usually only large when
there is a lot of garbage (95% or more of the graph), so we want to
speed up white marking.

To do this, I add a new pass that scans every node and directly sets the
color of any node that should be white, without flooding. This is very
fast. Then a second pass floods black from any remaining grey nodes.

On the page close CC for a real page, I measured a 10x improvement in
ScanRoots() time with this algorithm, from 3ms to 0.3ms.

70b1eacc9e Bug 1124973 (part 2) - Introduce PL_DHashTableSearch(), and replace most PL_DHashTableLookup() calls with it. r=froydnj. 
It feels safer to use a function with a new name, rather than just changing the
behaviour of the existing function.

For most of these cases the PL_DHashTableLookup() result was checked with
PL_DHASH_ENTRY_IS_{FREE,BUSY} so the conversion was easy. A few of them
preceded that check with a useless null check, but the intent of these was
still easy to determine.

I'll do the trickier ones in subsequent patches.

0bfce2ba30 Bug 645416, part 3 - Symbol layout and GC support for allocating them. r=terrence. 
Layout: js/src/vm/Symbol.h defines the new class JS::Symbol. JS::Symbol is the
same size as JSString on all platforms, because the allocator does not support
smaller allocations.

Allocation: Since the purpose of symbols is to serve as property keys, they are
always allocated in the atoms compartment.

We take a lock when allocating. This could probably be replaced with a
main-thread-only assertion. However, if atom allocation is not already a
bottleneck, symbol allocation probably never will be.

Symbols are given their own finalize-class in the GC. This means we allocate a
page per zone for symbols, even though they are only ever allocated in the
atoms zone. Terrence thought this could be easily fixed later. It should be; we
never touch the page, but a 32-bit virtual address space does not just have
infinite pages to spare.

A jsapi-test exercises the new symbol allocation code. A few oddities in
jsapi-tests are fixed in passing.

Discussion after review led to some new assertions about minimum object size in
AllocateObject and AllocateNonObject.

Return error when the protocol layer detects a framing error. More data
was supposed to be delivered than what actually did arrive.

Error code returned for this: NS_ERROR_NET_PARTIAL_TRANSFER

In HTTP1.1 for Content-Length: and chunked-encoding underruns

In http2 and SPDY for framing errors when data has already been received.

imgRequest::OnStopRequest will keep partially loaded images shown but
remove them from cache.

bf937eb0ab Bug 1121830 - DMD: add "num" property to blocks in the output. r=mccr8. 
The new "num" property lets identical blocks be aggregated in the output. This
patch only uses the "num" property for dead blocks, because that's where the
greatest potential benefit lies, but it could be used for live blocks as well.

On one test case (a complex PDF file) running with --mode=cumulative
--sample-below=1 this patch had the following effects.

- Change in running speed was negligible.

- Compressed output file size dropped from 8.8 to 5.0 MB.

- Compressed output file size dropped from 297 to 50 MB.

- dmd.py runtime (without stack fixing) dropped from 30 to 8 seconds.

df7a8ce416 Bug 1097506 - Pass a JSONWriteFunc to dmd::AnalyzeReports instead of a JSONWriter. r=njn 
The interesting feature JSONWriteFunc has, contrary to JSONWriter, is that it
only has virtual methods, which makes it a better candidate to be passed
around between libraries not linked against each other.

This will allow to make dmd and libxul independent from each other.

c4a297b071 Bug 1096624 - Use a SegmentedArray in nsCycleCollector::CollectWhite. r=smaug. 
This patch does the following.

- Moves the logic for computing the ideal capacity for a SegmentedArray out of
  SnowWhiteKiller into its own class, SegmentedArrayCapacity.

- Replaces the nsTArray in CollectWhite(), which can be very large and is
  complicit in ~1% of OOM crashes, with a SegmentedArray.

This patch generalizes SegmentedArray a little, and then uses it instead of
nsTArray in SnowWhiteKiller. This avoids some large (sometimes 1 MiB or more)
allocations which were usually mostly unused.

c0003b43bf Bug 1077057 - Expose Linux sandboxing information to JS via nsSystemInfo. r=kang r=froydnj 
This adds "hasSeccompBPF" for seccomp-bpf support; other "has" keys
will be added in the future (e.g., user namespaces).

This also adds "canSandboxContent" and "canSandboxMedia", which are
absent if the corresponding type of sandboxing isn't enabled at build
type (or is disabled with environment variables), and otherwise present
as a boolean indicating whether that type of sandboxing is supported.
Currently this is always the same as hasSeccompBPF, but that could change
in the future.

Some changes have been made to the "mozilla/Sandbox.h" interface to
support this; the idea is that the MOZ_DISABLE_*_SANDBOX environment
variables should be equivalent to disabling MOZ_*_SANDBOX at build time.
