Johannes Berg fe52145f91 netlink: pass extended ACK struct where available
This is an add-on to the previous patch that passes the extended ACK
structure where it's already available by existing genl_info or extack
function arguments.

This was done with this spatch (with some manual adjustment of
indentation):

Johannes Berg ba0dc5f6e0 netlink: allow sending extended ACK with cookie on success
Now that we have extended error reporting and a new message format for
netlink ACK messages, also extend this to be able to return arbitrary
cookie data on success.

This will allow, for example, nl80211 to not send an extra message for
cookies identifying newly created objects, but return those directly
in the ACK message.

The cookie data size is currently limited to 20 bytes (since Jamal
talked about using SHA1 for identifiers.)

Thanks to Jamal Hadi Salim for bringing up this idea during the
discussions.

There's no need to have struct bpf_map_type_list since
it just contains a list_head, the type, and the ops
pointer. Since the types are densely packed and not
actually dynamically registered, it's much easier and
smaller to have an array of type->ops pointer. Also
initialize this array statically to remove code needed

In order to save duplicating the list, move it to the

Johannes Berg ea90e0dc8c nl80211: fix dumpit error path RTNL deadlocks
Sowmini pointed out Dmitry's RTNL deadlock report to me, and it turns out
to be perfectly accurate - there are various error paths that miss unlock
of the RTNL.

To fix those, change the locking a bit to not be conditional in all those

start with, and fix the buggy error paths. This also let me use sparse

Johannes Berg 19d19e9605 mac80211: use driver-indicated transmitter STA only for data frames
When I originally introduced using the driver-indicated station as an
optimisation to avoid the hashtable lookup/iteration, of course it
wasn't intended to really functionally change anything.

I neglected, however, to take into account VLAN interfaces, which have
the property that management and data frames are handled differently:
data frames go directly to the station and the VLAN while management
frames continue to be processed over the underlying/associated AP-type
interface. As a consequence, when a driver used this optimisation for
management frames and the user enabled VLANs, my change broke things
since any management frames, particularly disassoc/deauth, were missed
by hostapd.

Fix this by restoring the original code path for non-data frames, they
aren't critical for performance to begin with.

This fixes https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194713.

Big thanks goes to Jarek who bisected the issue and provided a very
detailed bug report, including the crucial information that he was
using VLANs in his configuration.

Johannes Berg 23aeea943b iwlwifi: pcie: fix another RF-kill race
When resuming, it's possible for the following scenario to occur:

 * iwl_pci_resume() enables the RF-kill interrupt
 * iwl_pci_resume() reads the RF-kill state (e.g. to 'radio enabled')
 * RF_KILL interrupt triggers, and iwl_pcie_irq_handler() reads the
state, now 'radio disabled', and acquires the &trans_pcie->mutex.
 * iwl_pcie_irq_handler() further calls iwl_trans_pcie_rf_kill() to
indicate to the higher layers that the radio is now disabled (and
stops the device while at it)
 * iwl_pcie_irq_handler() drops the mutex
 * iwl_pci_resume() continues, acquires the mutex and calls the higher
layers to indicate that the radio is enabled.

At this point, the device is stopped but the higher layers think it's
available, and can call deeply into the driver to try to enable it.
However, this will fail since the device is actually disabled.

Johannes Berg 05e5a7e58d iwlwifi: mvm/pcie: adjust A-MSDU tx_cmd length in PCIe
Instead of setting the tx_cmd length in the mvm code, which is
complicated by the fact that DQA may want to temporarily store
the SKB on the side, adjust the length in the PCIe code which
also knows about this since it's responsible for duplicating
all those headers that are account for in this code.

As the PCIe code already relies on the tx_cmd->len field, this
doesn't really introduce any new dependencies.

To make this possible we need to move the memcpy() of the TX
command until after it was updated.

This does even simplify the code though, since the PCIe code
already does a lot of manipulations to build A-MSDUs correctly
and changing the length becomes a simple operation to see how
much was added/removed, rather than predicting it.

We don't really need clear the skb's status area nor store the

This doesn't entirely fix the bug with frames not getting sent

restore the info->driver_data[0] place that was already set to

Johannes Berg d2941df8fb mac80211: recalculate min channel width on VHT opmode changes
When an associated station changes its VHT operating mode this
can/will affect the bandwidth it's using, and consequently we
must recalculate the minimum bandwidth we need to use. Failure
to do so can lead to one of two scenarios:
 1) we use a too high bandwidth, this is benign
 2) we use a too narrow bandwidth, causing rate control and
actual PHY configuration to be out of sync, which can in
    turn cause problems/crashes

Johannes Berg 96aa2e7cf1 mac80211: calculate min channel width correctly
In the current minimum chandef code there's an issue in that the
recalculation can happen after rate control is initialized for a
station that has a wider bandwidth than the current chanctx, and
then rate control can immediately start using those higher rates
which could cause problems.

Observe that first of all that this problem is because we don't
take non-associated and non-uploaded stations into account. The
restriction to non-associated is quite pointless and is one of
the causes for the problem described above, since the rate init
will happen before the station is set to associated; no frames
could actually be sent until associated, but the rate table can
already contain higher rates and that might cause problems.

Also, rejecting non-uploaded stations is wrong, since the rate
control can select higher rates for those as well.

Secondly, it's then necessary to recalculate the minimal config
before initializing rate control, so that when rate control is
initialized, the higher rates are already available. This can be
done easily by adding the necessary function call in rate init.

Johannes Berg 4ef8c1c93f cfg80211: size various nl80211 messages correctly
Ilan reported that sometimes nl80211 messages weren't working if
the frames being transported got very large, which was really a
problem for userspace-to-kernel messages, but prompted me to look
at the code.

Upon review, I found various places where variable-length data is
transported in an nl80211 message but the message isn't allocated
taking that into account. This shouldn't cause any problems since
the frames aren't really that long, apart in one place where two
(possibly very long frames) might not fit.

Fix all the places (that I found) that get variable length data
from the driver and put it into a message to take the length of
the variable data into account. The 100 there is just a safe
constant for the remaining message overhead (it's usually around
50 for most messages.)

Johannes Berg eeb0d56fab mac80211: implement multicast forwarding on fast-RX path
In AP (or VLAN) mode, when unicast 802.11 packets are received,
they might actually be multicast after conversion. In this case
the fast-RX path didn't handle them properly to send them back
to the wireless medium. Implement that by copying the SKB and
sending it back out.

The possible alternative would be to just punt the packet back
to the regular (slow) RX path, but since we have almost all of
the required code here already it's not so complicated to add
here. Punting it back would also mean acquiring the spinlock,
which would be bad for the stated purpose of the fast-RX path,
to enable well-performing parallel RX.

Johannes Berg a07ea4d994 genetlink: no longer support using static family IDs
Static family IDs have never really been used, the only
use case was the workaround I introduced for those users
that assumed their family ID was also their multicast
group ID.

Additionally, because static family IDs would never be
reserved by the generic netlink code, using a relatively
low ID would only work for built-in families that can be
registered immediately after generic netlink is started,
which is basically only the control family (apart from
the workaround code, which I also had to add code for so
it would reserve those IDs)

Thus, anything other than GENL_ID_GENERATE is flawed and
luckily not used except in the cases I mentioned. Move
those workarounds into a few lines of code, and then get

Johannes Berg 8b935ee2ea cfg80211: add ability to check DA/SA in A-MSDU decapsulation
We should not accept arbitrary DA/SA inside A-MSDUs, it could be used
to circumvent protections, like allowing a station to send frames and
make them seem to come from somewhere else.

Add the necessary infrastructure in cfg80211 to allow such checks, in
further patches we'll start using them.

Johannes Berg 7f6990c830 cfg80211: let ieee80211_amsdu_to_8023s() take only header-less SKB
There's only a single case where has_80211_header is passed as true,
which is in mac80211. Given that there's only simple code that needs
to be done before calling it, export that function from cfg80211
instead and let mac80211 call it itself.

Johannes Berg ea720935cf mac80211: discard multicast and 4-addr A-MSDUs
In mac80211, multicast A-MSDUs are accepted in many cases that
they shouldn't be accepted in:
 * drop A-MSDUs with a multicast A1 (RA), as required by the
   spec in 9.11 (802.11-2012 version)
 * drop A-MSDUs with a 4-addr header, since the fourth address
can't actually be useful for them; unless 4-address frame
format is actually requested, even though the fourth address
is still not useful in this case, but ignored

Accepting the first case, in particular, is very problematic
since it allows anyone else with possession of a GTK to send
unicast frames encapsulated in a multicast A-MSDU, even when
the AP has client isolation enabled.

Johannes Berg 819bf59376 docs-rst: sphinxify 802.11 documentation
This is just a very basic conversion, I've split up the original
multi-book template, and also split up the multi-part mac80211
part in the original book; neither of those were handled by the
automatic pandoc conversion.

Fix errors that showed up, resulting in a much nicer rendering,
at least for the interface combinations documentation.

Johannes Berg 589a9785ee min/max: remove sparse warnings when they're nested
Currently, when min/max are nested within themselves, sparse will warn:

warning: symbol '_min1' shadows an earlier one
    originally declared here
warning: symbol '_min1' shadows an earlier one
    originally declared here
warning: symbol '_min2' shadows an earlier one
    originally declared here

This also immediately happens when min3() or max3() are used.

Since sparse implements __COUNTER__, we can use __UNIQUE_ID() to
generate unique variable names, avoiding this.

Johannes Berg 1e1430d528 Merge remote-tracking branch 'net-next/master' into mac80211-next
Resolve the merge conflict between Felix's/my and Toke's patches
coming into the tree through net and mac80211-next respectively.
Most of Felix's changes go away due to Toke's new infrastructure
work, my patch changes to "goto begin" (the label wasn't there
before) instead of returning NULL so flow control towards drivers
is preserved better.

Johannes Berg 8f7d99ba85 cfg80211: wext: really don't store non-WEP keys
Jouni reported that during (repeated) wext_pmf test runs (from the
wpa_supplicant hwsim test suite) the kernel crashes. The reason is
that after the key is set, the wext code still unnecessarily stores
it into the key cache. Despite smatch pointing out an overflow, I
failed to identify the possibility for this in the code and missed
it during development of the earlier patch series.

In order to fix this, simply check that we never store anything but
WEP keys into the cache, adding a comment as to why that's enough.

Also, since the cache is still allocated early even if it won't be
used in many cases, add a comment explaining why - otherwise we'd
have to roll back key settings to the driver in case of allocation
failures, which is far more difficult.

Johannes Berg 8564e38206 cfg80211: add checks for beacon rate, extend to mesh
The previous commit added support for specifying the beacon rate
for AP mode. Add features checks to this, and extend it to also
support the rate configuration for mesh networks. For IBSS it's
not as simple due to joining etc., so that's not yet supported.

Johannes Berg cc2f41f84f iwlwifi: pcie: avoid variable shadowing in TFD helpers
The various TFD/TB helpers have two code paths depending on the
type of TFD supported, with variable shadowing due to the new if

variable shadowing. While doing so, rename some of the variables
and do some other cleanups (like removing void * casts of void *
pointers.)
