ASoC: Updates for v3.18
- More componentisation work from Lars-Peter, this time mainly
cleaning up the suspend and bias level transition callbacks.
- Real system support for the Intel drivers and a bunch of fixes and
enhancements for the associated CODEC drivers, this is going to need
a lot quirks over time due to the lack of any firmware description of
the boards.
- Jack detect support for simple card from Dylan Reid.
- A bunch of small fixes and enhancements for the Freescale drivers.
- New drivers for Analog Devices SSM4567, Cirrus Logic CS35L32, Everest
Semiconductor ES8328 and Freescale cards using the ASRC in newer i.MX
processors.
For its headphone, mic and DSP responses, we can use the standard
hda_jack infrastructure in CA0132 driver, too. The only point to
handle carefully is the delayed headphone jack handling. It tries to
react after a certain delay. Here we use the existing block_report
flag in hda_jack_tbl (that was implemented for HDMI).

Like the previous fix for STAC/IDT codecs, the automute hooks in VIA
driver can be also removed by enabling the power control callback for
all pins.
Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
Now we can register multiple callbacks to each jack, most of hooks
used in STAC/IDT codecs can be removed by enabling the powermap update
callback for all relevant pins. Along with this, the call of
stac_init_power_map() can be moved back to stac_parse_auto_config()
and the own build_controls callback can be removed, too.
Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
So far, hda_jack infrastructure allows only one callback per jack, and
this makes things slightly complicated when a driver wants to assign
multiple tasks to a jack, e.g. the standard auto-mute with a power
up/down sequence. This can be simplified if the hda_jack accepts
multiple callbacks.
This patch is such an extension: the callback-specific part (the
function and private_data) is split to another struct from
hda_jack_tbl, and multiple such objects can be assigned to a single
hda_jack_tbl entry.
The new struct hda_jack_callback is passed to each callback function
now, thus the patch became bigger than expected. But these changes
are mostly trivial.

ASoC: Fixes for v3.17
This is mostly driver fixes, the biggest one being the tlv320aic31xx

small fix in the error handling in DPCM too which is relatively minor
error handling fix.

Like the other previous changes, this patch for lx6464es takes the

merging the trigger tasklets back to the trigger callback.

Like the previous patch for VX boards, miXart device driver can be

msg_lock.

The current codes in gameport and analog joystick drivers for the time
accounting have a long-standing problem when the system is running
with CPU freq; since the timing is measured via TSC or sample counter,
the calculation isn't reliable.

timing. In case where no high resolution timer is available,
use_ktime bool option is provided to both modules. Setting

The action value assigned to each hda_jack_tbl entry is mostly
superfluous. The actually used values are either the widget NID or a
value specific to the callback.
The former case can be simply replaced by a reference to widget NID
itself. The only place doing the latter is STAC/IDT codec driver for
the powermap handling. But, the code doesn't need to check the action
field at all -- the function jack_update_power() is called either with
a specific pin or with NULL. So the check of jack->action can be
removed completely there, too.
Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
When a driver is set up without the jack detection explicitly (either
by passing a model option or via a specific fixup), the pin powermap
of IDT/STAC codecs is set up wrongly, resulting in the silence
output. It's because of a logic failure in stac_init_power_map().
It tries to avoid creating a callback for the pins that have other
auto-hp and auto-mic callbacks, but the check is done in a wrong way
at a wrong time. The stac_init_power_map() should be called after
creating other jack detection ctls, and the jack callback should be
created only for jack-detectable widgets.
This patch fixes the check in stac_init_power_map() and its callee
at the right place, after snd_hda_gen_build_controls().

The DACs on Sigmatel/IDT codecs do mute at the lowest volume level,
and in the earlier drivers, we passed TLV_DB_SCALE_MUTE bit for each
volume control element like Speaker and Headphone as well as Master.
Along with the translation to the generic parser, however, the TLV bit
was lost for the slave controls (e.g. Speaker) but set only to
Master. In theory this should have sufficed, but apps, particularly
PA, do care the slave volume bits, so we seem to see a regression in
the volume controls.
This patch adds a flag to hda_gen_spec to specify the DAC mute
feature, and adds the TLV bit properly for all relevant volume
controls. Also, the TLV bit for vmaster is set in hda_generic.c, so
that we can get rid of all tricks from the codec driver side.
As the similar hack is applied to Conexant 5051 stuff, we can get rid
of it as well.

The previous commit for the non-atomic PCM ops added more codes to
snd_pcm_stream_lock() and its variants. Since they are inlined
functions, it resulted in a significant code size bloat. For reducing
the size bloat, this patch changes the inline functions to the normal
function calls. The export of rwlock and rwsem are removed as well,
since they are referred only in pcm_native.c now.
Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
Currently, many PCM operations are performed in a critical section
protected by spinlock, typically the trigger and pointer callbacks are
assumed to be atomic. This is basically because some trigger action
(e.g. PCM stop after drain or xrun) is done in the interrupt handler.
If a driver runs in a threaded irq, however, this doesn't have to be
atomic. And many devices want to handle trigger in a non-atomic
context due to lengthy communications.
This patch tries all PCM calls operational in non-atomic context.
What it does is very simple: replaces the substream spinlock with the
corresponding substream mutex when pcm->nonatomic flag is set. The
driver that wants to use the non-atomic PCM ops just needs to set the
flag and keep the rest as is. (Of course, it must not handle any PCM
ops in irq context.)
Note that the code doesn't check whether it's atomic-safe or not, but
trust in 100% that the driver sets pcm->nonatomic correctly.
One possible problem is the case where linked PCM substreams have
inconsistent nonatomic states. For avoiding this, snd_pcm_link()
returns an error if one tries to link an inconsistent PCM substream.

However, some verbs seem specific to some codec versions and they

This indicates a NULL corruption in prefs_delayed list. The further
investigation and bisection pointed that the call of ulist_add_merge()
results in the corruption.
ulist_add_merge() takes u64 as aux and writes a 64bit value into
old_aux. The callers of this function in backref.c, however, pass a
pointer of a pointer to old_aux. That is, the function overwrites
64bit value on 32bit pointer. This caused a NULL in the adjacent
variable, in this case, prefs_delayed.
Here is a quick attempt to band-aid over this: a new function,
ulist_add_merge_ptr() is introduced to pass/store properly a pointer
value instead of u64. There are still ugly void ** cast remaining
in the callers because void ** cannot be taken implicitly. But, it's
safer than explicit cast to u64, anyway.

- Support for multiple CODECs attached to a single DAI, enabling
systems with for example multiple DAC/speaker drivers on a single

- Support for byte controls larger than 256 bytes based on the use of
TLVs contributed by Omair Mohammed Abdullah.
- More componentisation work from Lars-Peter Clausen.
- The remainder of the conversions of CODEC drivers to params_width()
- Drivers for Cirrus Logic CS4265, Freescale i.MX ASRC blocks, Realtek
RT286 and RT5670, Rockchip RK3xxx I2S controllers and Texas Instruments
TAS2552.
- Lots of updates and fixes, especially to the DaVinci, Intel,

Since init_failed flag was moved to struct hda_intel, its access in
the commit [4da63c6f: ALSA: hda - Fix broken PM due to incomplete

appropriately.
When the initialization of Intel HDMI controller fails due to missing
i915 kernel symbols (e.g. HD-audio is built in while i915 is module),
the driver discontinues the probe. However, since the probe was done
asynchronously, the driver object still remains, thus the relevant PM
ops are still called at suspend/resume. This results in the bad access
to the incomplete audio card object, eventually leads to Oops or stall

The commit [247bc037: PM / Sleep: Mitigate race between the freezer
and request_firmware()] introduced the finer state control, but it
also leads to a new bug; for example, a bug report regarding the
firmware loading of intel BT device at suspend/resume:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=873790
The root cause seems to be a small window between the process resume
and the clear of usermodehelper lock. The request_firmware() function
checks the UMH lock and gives up when it's in UMH_DISABLE state. This
is for avoiding the invalid f/w loading during suspend/resume phase.
The problem is, however, that usermodehelper_enable() is called at the
end of thaw_processes(). Thus, a thawed process in between can kick
off the f/w loader code path (in this case, via btusb_setup_intel())
even before the call of usermodehelper_enable(). Then
usermodehelper_read_trylock() returns an error and request_firmware()
spews WARN_ON() in the end.
This oneliner patch fixes the issue just by setting to UMH_FREEZING
state again before restarting tasks, so that the call of
request_firmware() will be blocked until the end of this function
instead of returning an error.

Currently (at least) the dell-rbu driver selects FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER,
which means that distros can't really stop loading firmware through
udev without breaking other users (though some have).
Ideally we would remove/disable the udev firmware helper in both the
kernel and in udev, but if we were to disable it in udev and not the
kernel, the result would be (seemingly) hung kernels as no one would
be around to cancel firmware requests.
This patch allows udev firmware loading to be disabled while still
allowing non-udev firmware loading, as done by the dell-rbu driver, to
continue working. This is achieved by only using the fallback
mechanism when the uevent is suppressed.
The patch renames the user-selectable Kconfig from FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER
to FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER_FALLBACK, and the former is reverse-selected
by the latter or the drivers that need userhelper like dell-rbu.
Also, the "default y" is removed together with this change, since it's
been deprecated in udev upstream, thus rather better to disable it
nowadays.
Tested with

The recent commit [6194b99d: ALSA: hda - Kill the rest of snd_print*()
usages] changed the callback map_slaves(), but one call was forgotten
to be replaced due to the cast, which leads to kernel Oops due to
invalid function. This patch replaces it with a proper function.

ICH6_ prefix doesn't mean that it's specific to ICH6 chipset but
rather its generic for all HD-audio (or "Azalia") devices.
Use AZX_ prefix instead to align with other constants.

... and move most parts into hda_intel.c from the generic controller
code. This is a clean up, and there should be no functional change by
this patch.
Now, struct azx obtains the generic callbacks for getting the position
and the delay. As default NULL, posbuf is read. These replace the
old position_fix[], and each is implemented as a callback.

When a USB-audio device is disconnected while PCM is still running, we
still see some race: the disconnect callback calls
snd_usb_endpoint_free() that calls release_urbs() and then kfree()
while a PCM stream would be closed at the same time and calls
stop_endpoints() that leads to wait_clear_urbs(). That is, the EP
object might be deallocated while a PCM stream is syncing with
wait_clear_urbs() with the same EP.
Basically calling multiple wait_clear_urbs() would work fine, also
calling wait_clear_urbs() and release_urbs() would work, too, as
wait_clear_urbs() just reads some fields in ep. The problem is the
succeeding kfree() in snd_pcm_endpoint_free().
This patch moves out the EP deallocation into the later point, the
destructor callback. At this stage, all PCMs must have been already
closed, so it's safe to free the objects.

HP Spectre 13 has the IDT 92HD95 codec, and BIOS seems to set the
default high-pass filter in some "safer" range, which results in the
very soft tone from the built-in speakers in contrast to Windows.
Also, the mute LED control is missing, since 92HD95 codec still has no
HP-specific fixups for GPIO setups.
This patch adds these missing features: the HPF is adjusted by the
vendor-specific verb, and the LED is set up from a DMI string (but
with the default polarity = 0 assumption due to the incomplete BIOS on
the given machine).

ASoC: Fixes for v3.16
Quite a few build coverage fixes in here among the usual small driver
fixes includling the sigmadsp change from Lars - moving the driver to
separate modules per bus (which is basically just code motion) avoids
issues with some combinations of buses being enabled.
When a machine is booted with nomodeset option, i915 driver skips the
whole initialization. Meanwhile, HD-audio tries to bind wth i915 just
by request_symbol() without knowing that the initialization was
skipped, and eventually it hits WARN_ON() in i915_request_power_well()
and i915_release_power_well() wrongly but still continues probing,
even though it doesn't work at all.
In this patch, both functions are changed to return an error in case
of uninitialized state instead of WARN_ON(), so that HD-audio driver
can give up HDMI controller initialization at the right time.

We've observed the missing pvpanic call at panic, and it turned out
that this was blocked by the broken notifier of drm_fb_helper, where
scheduling may be called during switching to the fb console.
It's fairly difficult to fix the drm_fb problem and a quick fix isn't
foreseen, a simpler solution for the missing pvpanic call would be
just to call this earlier.
In order to assure that, this patch sets a higher priority to pvpanic
notifier_block. Once when the issue of drm_fb is resolved, we can
remove this priority again.

Toshiba Satellite M840 laptop has a complete different keymap although
it's bound with the same ACPI ID "TOS1900". This patch provides an
alternative keymap specific to this machine by identifying via DMI
matching. The keymap table doesn't fill all entries that were used
before since some keys aren't found on this machine at all.

ASoC: Final updates for v3.16
A few more updates from the last week of development, nothing too
exciting. Highlights include:
- GPIO descriptor support for jacks
- More updates and fixes to the Freescale SSI, Intel and rsnd drivers.
- New drivers for Analog Devices ADAU1361, ADAU1381, ADAU1761 and
ADAU1781, and Realtek RT5677.
The conversion to a fixup table for Replacer model with ALC260 in

NID 0x1a should have been used instead of NID 0x20, which is the
common node for all Realtek codecs but ALC260.
