With a make O=... build kbuild would only create
the include2/asm symlink for archs that not yet
had moved headers to include/$ARCH/include
There is no longer any reason to avoid the symlink
for archs that has moved their headers so create it
unconditionally.
This fixes arm because kbuild checked for include/asm-$ARCH/errno.h
and that file was not present for arm but the platform files
are not yet moved.

We used include/asm-$ARCH/system.h to check if
we should create a symlink in include2 directory with
make O=... builds.
But um does not have such a file thus build filed.
Let's try anohter filename:

make defconfig generated a lot of output
then noone actually read.
Use conf_set_all_new_symbols() to generate the default
configuration and avoid the chatty output.
A typical run now looks like this:
$ make defconfig

Previously when running "make oldconfig" we saw all the propmt lines
from kconfig and noone actully read this.
With this patch the user will only see output if there is new symbols.
This will be seen as "make oldconfig" runs which does not generate any output.
A typical run now looks like this:
$ make oldconfig
scripts/kconfig/conf -o arch/x86/Kconfig
$
If a new symbol is found then we restart the config process like this:
$ make oldconfig
scripts/kconfig/conf -o arch/x86/Kconfig
*
* Restart config...
*
*
* General setup
*
Prompt for development and/or incomplete code/drivers (EXPERIMENTAL) [Y/n/?] y

oldconfig target "make silentoldconfig".
"make silentoldconfig" are run as part of the kernel build process
if the configuration has changed.

This patch conclude the support for
arch/$ARCH/include
Note: The individual architectures will most likely require
a few minor patches to support locating header files in
arch/$ARCH/include
Testing shows that it worked out-of-the-box for sparc.
x86 required a few trivial changes in the arch
specific Makefile and a few include paths had to be adjusted.

Adjust the asm symlink support so we do not create the
symlink unless really needed.
We check the precense of include/asm-$ARCH by checking
for the system.h file. We may end up with a stale directory
so it is not enough to check if the directory is present.

Move the core functionality of headers_install
and headers_check to two small perl scripts.
The makefile is adapted to use the perl scrip and
changed to operate on all files in a directory.
So if one file is changed then all files in the
directory is processed.
perl were chosen for the helper scripts because this
is pure text processing which perl is good at and
especially the headers_check.pl script are expected to
see changes / new checks implmented.
The speed is ~300% faster on this box.
And the output generated to the screen is now down to
two lines per directory (one for install, one for check)
so it is easier to scroll back after a kernel build.
The perl scripts has been brought to sanity by patient
feedback from: Vegard Nossum <vegard.nossum@gmail.com>

Move it to the top-level file to decide if we install/check
the generic headers or the arch specific headers.
This revealed a long standing bug where "make headers_check_all"
relied on the files in asm/ for the current architecture.
So make headers_check_all is now broken by this commit.
In addition:
o add a simpler way to detect if an arch support
exporting header files.
o add 'set -e;' so we error out early if
make headers_check_all fails.
o add sparc64 and cris to arch we do not process
in make headers_*_all because:
sparc64 - use sparc to export headers
cris - is know seriously broken

With this commit all sparc64 header files are moved to asm-sparc.
The remaining files (71 files) were too different to be trivially
merged so divide them up in a _32.h and a _64.h file which
are both included from the file with no bit size.
The following script were used:
cd include
FILES=`wc -l asm-sparc64/*h | grep -v '^ 1' | cut -b 20-`
for FILE in ${FILES}; do
echo $FILE:
BASE=`echo $FILE | cut -d '.' -f 1`
FN32=${BASE}_32.h
FN64=${BASE}_64.h
GUARD=___ASM_SPARC_`echo $BASE | tr '-' '_' | tr [:lower:] [:upper:]`_H
git mv asm-sparc/$FILE asm-sparc/$FN32
git mv asm-sparc64/$FILE asm-sparc/$FN64
echo git mv done
printf "#ifndef %s\n" $GUARD > asm-sparc/$FILE
printf "#define %s\n" $GUARD >> asm-sparc/$FILE
printf "#if defined(__sparc__) && defined(__arch64__)\n" >> asm-sparc/$FILE
printf "#include <asm-sparc/%s>\n" $FN64 >> asm-sparc/$FILE
printf "#else\n" >> asm-sparc/$FILE
printf "#include <asm-sparc/%s>\n" $FN32 >> asm-sparc/$FILE
printf "#endif\n" >> asm-sparc/$FILE
printf "#endif\n" >> asm-sparc/$FILE
git add asm-sparc/$FILE
echo new file done
printf "#include <asm-sparc/%s>\n" $FILE > asm-sparc64/$FILE
git add asm-sparc64/$FILE
echo sparc64 file done
done

In additing the two Kbuild files are emptied to avoid breaking
headers_* targets.

We have a case in powerpc in which we want to link some library

link the same "library" code into the kernel).
Without this patch a powerpc build would error out and fail
to build modules with the added register save/restore module.
There were two obvious solutions:
1) To link the .o file before the modpost stage
2) To ignore the symbols in modpost
Option 1) was ruled out because we do not have any separate
linking stage for single file modules.
This patch implements option 2 - and do so only for powerpc.

When we introduced support for KBUILD_EXTRA_SYMBOLS
we started to include the externam module's kbuild
file when doing the final modpost step.
As external modules often do:
ccflags-y := -I$(src)
We had problems because $(src) was unassinged and
gcc then used the next parameter for -I resulting in
strange build failures.
Fix is to assign $(src) and $(obj) when building
external modules.

Daniel Drake <dsd@gentoo.org> reported:
In 2.6.23, if you unpacked a kernel source tarball and then
ran "make menuconfig" you'd be presented with this message:
# using defaults found in arch/i386/defconfig
and the default options would be set.
The same thing in 2.6.24 does not give you any "using defaults" message, and
the default config options within menuconfig are rather blank (e.g. no PCI
support). You can work around this by explicitly running "make defconfig"
before menuconfig, but it would be nice to have the behaviour the way it was
for 2.6.23 (and the way it still is for other archs).
Fixed by adding a x86 specific defconfig list to Kconfig.

Building vmlinux.o were moved up in the dependency chain so we started
to build it before the kallsym stuff. This was done to let modpost
report section mismatch bugs even when the final link failed.
Originally I had expected the dependency of $(kallsyms.o) to

Fix following warnings:
WARNING: drivers/isdn/hisax/built-in.o(.text+0x19723): Section mismatch in reference from the function ISACVersion() to the variable .devinit.data:ISACVer
WARNING: drivers/isdn/hisax/built-in.o(.text+0x2005b): Section mismatch in reference from the function setup_avm_a1_pcmcia() to the function .devinit.text:setup_isac()
ISACVer were only used from function annotated __devinit
so add same annotation to ISACVer.
One af the fererencing functions missed __devinit so add it
and kill an additional warning.

checkcard() are the only user of hisax_cs_setup_card().
And checkcard is only used during init or when hot plugging
ISDN devices. So annotate hisax_cs_setup_card() with __devinit.
checkcard() is used by exported functions so it cannot be
annotated __devinit. Annotate it with __ref so modpost
ignore references to _devinit section.

initisar(), initisac() and clear_pending_isac_ints()
were all used via a cardmsg fnction - which may be called
ouside __devinit context.
So remove the bogus __devinit annotation of the
above three functions to fix the warnings.

Fix the following warning:
WARNING: drivers/isdn/hisax/built-in.o(.text+0x35818): Section mismatch in reference from the function hfcsx_card_msg() to the function .devinit.text:inithfcsx()
hfcsx_card_msg() may be called outside __devinit context.
Following the program logic is looks like the CARD_INIT branch
will only be taken under __devinit context but to be consistent
remove the __devinit annotation of inithfcsx() so we
do not mix non-__devinit and __devinit code.
