BIOS Information
Vendor: Loongson
Version: vUDK2018-LoongArch-V2.0.pre-beta8
Release Date: 06/15/2022
ROM Size: 4 MB
According to "BIOS Information (Type 0) structure" in the SMBIOS
Reference Specification [1], it shows 64K * (n+1) is the size of
the physical device containing the BIOS if the size is less than
16M.
Additionally, we can see the related code in dmidecode [2]:
u64 s = { .l = (code1 + 1) << 6 };
So the output of dmidecode is correct, the output of boardinfo
is wrong, fix it.
By the way, at present no need to consider the size is 16M or
greater on LoongArch, because it is usually 4M or 8M which is
enough to use.

arch/mips/include/asm/mach-ralink/spaces.h header file:
#define pci_remap_iospace pci_remap_iospace
CONFIG_PCI is set, so pci_remap_iospace() in drivers/pci/pci.c is not

arch/mips/include/generated/uapi/asm/unistd_n32.h:#define __NR_bpf (__NR_Linux + 319)
The __NR_Linux is defined in arch/mips/include/uapi/asm/unistd.h:
$ grep -r "#define __NR_Linux" arch/mips
arch/mips/include/uapi/asm/unistd.h:#define __NR_Linux 4000
arch/mips/include/uapi/asm/unistd.h:#define __NR_Linux 5000

That is to say, __NR_bpf is:
4000 + 355 = 4355 for mips o32,
6000 + 319 = 6319 for mips n32,
5000 + 315 = 5315 for mips n64.
So use the GCC pre-defined macro _ABIO32, _ABIN32 and _ABI64 [1] to define
the corresponding __NR_bpf.

In the current code, the actual max tail call count is 33 which is greater
than MAX_TAIL_CALL_CNT (defined as 32). The actual limit is not consistent
with the meaning of MAX_TAIL_CALL_CNT and thus confusing at first glance.
We can see the historical evolution from commit 04fd61ab36 ("bpf: allow
bpf programs to tail-call other bpf programs") and commit f9dabe016b
("bpf: Undo off-by-one in interpreter tail call count limit"). In order
to avoid changing existing behavior, the actual limit is 33 now, this is
reasonable.
After commit 874be05f52 ("bpf, tests: Add tail call test suite"), we can
see there exists failed testcase.
On all archs when CONFIG_BPF_JIT_ALWAYS_ON is not set:
# echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/core/bpf_jit_enable
# modprobe test_bpf
# dmesg | grep -w FAIL
Tail call error path, max count reached jited:0 ret 34 != 33 FAIL
On some archs:
# echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/core/bpf_jit_enable
# modprobe test_bpf
# dmesg | grep -w FAIL
Tail call error path, max count reached jited:1 ret 34 != 33 FAIL
Although the above failed testcase has been fixed in commit 18935a72eb
("bpf/tests: Fix error in tail call limit tests"), it would still be good
to change the value of MAX_TAIL_CALL_CNT from 32 to 33 to make the code
more readable.
The 32-bit x86 JIT was using a limit of 32, just fix the wrong comments and
limit to 33 tail calls as the constant MAX_TAIL_CALL_CNT updated. For the
mips64 JIT, use "ori" instead of "addiu" as suggested by Johan Almbladh.
For the riscv JIT, use RV_REG_TCC directly to save one register move as
suggested by Björn Töpel. For the other implementations, no function changes,
it does not change the current limit 33, the new value of MAX_TAIL_CALL_CNT
can reflect the actual max tail call count, the related tail call testcases
in test_bpf module and selftests can work well for the interpreter and the
JIT.
Here are the test results on x86_64:

After commit 9298e63eaf ("bpf/tests: Add exhaustive tests of ALU
operand magnitudes"), when modprobe test_bpf.ko with JIT on mips64,
there exists segment fault due to the following reason:
[...]
ALU64_MOV_X: all register value magnitudes jited:1
Break instruction in kernel code[#1]
[...]
It seems that the related JIT implementations of some test cases
in test_bpf() have problems. At this moment, I do not care about
the segment fault while I just want to verify the test cases of
tail calls.
Based on the above background and motivation, add the following
module parameter test_suite to the test_bpf.ko:
test_suite=<string>: only the specified test suite will be run, the
string can be "test_bpf", "test_tail_calls" or "test_skb_segment".
If test_suite is not specified, but test_id, test_name or test_range
is specified, set 'test_bpf' as the default test suite. This is useful
to only test the corresponding test suite when specifying the valid
test_suite string.
Any invalid test suite will result in -EINVAL being returned and no
tests being run. If the test_suite is not specified or specified as
empty string, it does not change the current logic, all of the test
cases will be run.

In fs/f2fs/Kconfig, F2FS_FS_LZ4HC depends on F2FS_FS_LZ4 and F2FS_FS_LZ4
depends on F2FS_FS_COMPRESSION, so no need to make F2FS_FS_LZ4HC depends
on F2FS_FS_COMPRESSION explicitly, remove the redudant "depends on", do
the similar thing for F2FS_FS_LZORLE.
At the same time, it is better to move F2FS_FS_LZORLE next to F2FS_FS_LZO,

On the Loongson64 platform used with Radeon GPU, shutdown or reboot failed
when console=tty is in the boot cmdline.
radeon_suspend_kms() puts the hw in the suspend state, especially set fb
state as FBINFO_STATE_SUSPENDED:
if (fbcon) {
console_lock();
radeon_fbdev_set_suspend(rdev, 1);
console_unlock();
}
Then avoid to do any more fb operations in the related functions:
if (p->state != FBINFO_STATE_RUNNING)
return;
So call radeon_suspend_kms() in radeon_pci_shutdown() for Loongson64 to fix
this issue, it looks like some kind of workaround like powerpc.

When update the latest mainline kernel with the following three configs,
the kernel hangs during startup:
(1) CONFIG_FUNCTION_GRAPH_TRACER=y
(2) CONFIG_PREEMPT_TRACER=y
(3) CONFIG_FTRACE_STARTUP_TEST=y
When update the latest mainline kernel with the above two configs (1)
and (2), the kernel starts normally, but it still hangs when execute
the following command:
echo "function_graph" > /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/current_tracer
Without CONFIG_PREEMPT_TRACER=y, the above two kinds of kernel hangs
disappeared, so it seems that CONFIG_PREEMPT_TRACER has some influences
with function_graph tracer at the first glance.
I use ejtag to find out the epc address is related with preempt_enable()
in the file arch/mips/lib/mips-atomic.c, because function tracing can
trace the preempt_{enable,disable} calls that are traced, replace them
with preempt_{enable,disable}_notrace to prevent function tracing from
going into an infinite loop, and then it can fix the kernel hang issue.
By the way, it seems that this commit is a complement and improvement of
commit f93a1a00f2 ("MIPS: Fix crash that occurs when function tracing

Loongson64 processors have a writecombine issue that maybe failed to
write back framebuffer used with ATI Radeon or AMD GPU at times, after
commit 8a08e50cee ("drm: Permit video-buffers writecombine mapping
for MIPS"), there exists some errors such as blurred screen and lockup,
and so on.

As discussed earlier [1], it might be better to disable writecombine
on the CPU detection side because the root cause is unknown now.
Actually, this patch is a temporary solution to just make it work well,
it is not a proper and final solution, I hope someone will have a better

bpftrace is a high-level tracing language for Linux enhanced Berkeley
Packet Filter (eBPF) available in recent Linux kernels (4.x). bpftrace
uses LLVM as a backend to compile scripts to BPF-bytecode and makes use
of BCC for interacting with the Linux BPF system, as well as existing
Linux tracing capabilities: kernel dynamic tracing (kprobes), user-level
dynamic tracing (uprobes), and tracepoints.
According to Linux Kernel Requirements in bpftrace/INSTALL.md [1], the
kernel needs to be built with the following options:
CONFIG_BPF=y
CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL=y
CONFIG_BPF_JIT=y
CONFIG_HAVE_EBPF_JIT=y
CONFIG_BPF_EVENTS=y
CONFIG_FTRACE_SYSCALLS=y
CONFIG_FUNCTION_TRACER=y
CONFIG_HAVE_DYNAMIC_FTRACE=y

CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES=y
CONFIG_KPROBES=y
CONFIG_KPROBE_EVENTS=y
CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_UPROBES=y
CONFIG_UPROBES=y
CONFIG_UPROBE_EVENTS=y
CONFIG_DEBUG_FS=y
So enable some missed configs in loongson3_defconfig to make sure
the above configs are set after make loongson3_defconfig.

In the current code, arch_has_single_step() is not defined on MIPS,
that means MIPS does not support instruction single-step for user mode.
Delve is a debugger for the Go programming language, the ptrace syscall
PtraceSingleStep() failed [1] on MIPS and then the single step function
can not work well, we can see that PtraceSingleStep() definition returns
ptrace(PTRACE_SINGLESTEP) [2].
So it is necessary to support ptrace single step on MIPS.
At the beginning, we try to use the Debug Single Step exception on the
Loongson 3A4000 platform, but it has no effect when set CP0_DEBUG SSt
bit, this is because CP0_DEBUG NoSSt bit is 1 which indicates no
single-step feature available [3], so this way which is dependent on the
hardware is almost impossible.
With further research, we find out there exists a common way used with
break instruction in arch/alpha/kernel/ptrace.c, it is workable.
For the above analysis, define arch_has_single_step(), add the common
function user_enable_single_step() and user_disable_single_step(), set
flag TIF_SINGLESTEP for child process, use break instruction to set
breakpoint.
We can use the following testcase to test it:
tools/testing/selftests/breakpoints/step_after_suspend_test.c
$ make -C tools/testing/selftests TARGETS=breakpoints
$ cd tools/testing/selftests/breakpoints

MIPS needs __SANE_USERSPACE_TYPES__ before <linux/types.h> to select
'int-ll64.h' in arch/mips/include/uapi/asm/types.h, then it can avoid
build warnings when printing __u64 with %llu, %llx or %lld.
The header tools/include/linux/types.h defines __SANE_USERSPACE_TYPES__,
it seems that we can include <linux/types.h> in the source files which
have build warnings, but it has no effect due to actually it includes
usr/include/linux/types.h instead of tools/include/linux/types.h, the
problem is that "usr/include" is preferred first than "tools/include"
in samples/bpf/Makefile, that sounds like a ugly hack to -Itools/include
before -Iusr/include.
So define __SANE_USERSPACE_TYPES__ for MIPS in samples/bpf/Makefile
is proper, if add "TPROGS_CFLAGS += -D__SANE_USERSPACE_TYPES__" in
samples/bpf/Makefile, it appears the following error:
Auto-detecting system features:

With #ifndef __SANE_USERSPACE_TYPES__ in tools/include/linux/types.h,

The LLVM community has adopted new ways to build the compiler. There are
different ways to build LLVM and Clang, the Clang Getting Started page [1]
has one way. As Yonghong said, it is better to copy the build procedure
in Documentation/bpf/bpf_devel_QA.rst to keep consistent.
I verified the procedure and it is proved to be feasible, so we should
update README.rst to reflect the reality. At the same time, update the
related comment in Makefile.
Additionally, as Fangrui said, the dir llvm-project/llvm/build/install is
not used, BUILD_SHARED_LIBS=OFF is the default option [2], so also change
Documentation/bpf/bpf_devel_QA.rst together.
At last, we recommend that developers who want the fastest incremental
builds use the Ninja build system [1], you can find it in your system's
package manager, usually the package is ninja or ninja-build [3], so add
ninja to build dependencies suggested by Nathan.

depends on SMP, and then just set them in the loongson3_defconfig.
(2) Move szmem() from numa.c to init.c and add prom_init_memory() under
!CONFIG_NUMA.
(3) Clean up szmem() due to the statements of case SYSTEM_RAM_LOW and
SYSTEM_RAM_HIGH are the same.
(4) Remove the useless declaration of prom_init_memory() and add the
declaration of szmem() in loongson.h to avoid build error.

After commit 9cce844abf ("MIPS: CPU#0 is not hotpluggable"),
c->hotpluggable is 0 for CPU 0 and it will not generate a control
file in sysfs for this CPU:
[root@linux loongson]# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/online
cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/online: No such file or directory
[root@linux loongson]# echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/online
bash: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/online: Permission denied
So no need to check CPU 0 in cps_cpu_disable(), just remove it.

In the current code, CONFIG_ARCH_KEEP_MEMBLOCK is not set for MIPS arch,
memblock_discard() will discard memory and reserved arrays if they were
allocated, select ARCH_KEEP_MEMBLOCK if DEBUG_KERNEL to give a chance to
track "memory" and "reserved" memblocks after early boot, with this patch,
we can see the following two sysfs interfaces under DEBUG_FS.
/sys/kernel/debug/memblock/memory
/sys/kernel/debug/memblock/reserved

us to get dmi_setup() and resource_init() memblock info, at least for now.

As the user manual and code comment said, Loongson-3 has 4-scache banks,
while Loongson-2K has only 2 banks, so we should multiply the number of
scache banks, this multiply operation should be done by c->scache.sets
instead of scache_size, otherwise we will get the wrong scache size when
execute lscpu. For example, the scache size should be 8192K instead of
2048K on the Loongson 3A3000 and 3A4000 platform, we can see the related
info in the following boot message:
[loongson@linux ~]$ dmesg | grep "Unified secondary cache"
[ 0.000000] Unified secondary cache 8192kB 16-way, linesize 64 bytes.
[ 4.061909] Unified secondary cache 8192kB 16-way, linesize 64 bytes.
[ 4.125629] Unified secondary cache 8192kB 16-way, linesize 64 bytes.
[ 4.188379] Unified secondary cache 8192kB 16-way, linesize 64 bytes.
E.g. without this patch:
[loongson@linux ~]$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cache/index2/size
2048K
2048K
2048K
2048K
[loongson@linux ~]$ lscpu | grep "L2 cache"
L2 cache: 2048K
With this patch:
[loongson@linux ~]$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cache/index2/size

In play_dead function, the whole 64-bit PC mailbox was used as a indicator
to determine if the master core had written boot jump information.
However, after we introduced CSR mailsend, the hardware will not guarante
an atomic write for the 64-bit PC mailbox. Thus we have to use the lower
32-bit which is written at the last as the jump indicator instead.
