Marco ElverandPeter Zijlstra a21c1e961d compiler: Simplify generic RELOC_HIDE()
When enabling Context Analysis (CONTEXT_ANALYSIS := y) in arch/x86/kvm
code, Clang's Thread Safety Analysis failed to recognize that identical
per_cpu() accesses refer to the same lock:

This occurred because the default RELOC_HIDE() implementation (used by
the per-CPU macros) is a statement expression containing an intermediate
'unsigned long' variable (this version appears to predate Git history).

While the analysis strips away inner casts when resolving pointer
aliases, it stops when encountering intermediate non-pointer variables
(this is Thread Safety Analysis specific and irrelevant for codegen).
This prevents the analysis from concluding that the pointers passed to
e.g. raw_spin_lock() and raw_spin_unlock() were identical when per-CPU
accessors are used.

Simplify RELOC_HIDE() to a single expression. This preserves the intent
of obfuscating UB-introducing out-of-bounds pointer calculations from
the compiler via the 'unsigned long' cast, but allows the alias analysis
to successfully resolve the pointers.

Using a recent Clang version, I observe that generated code remains the
same for vmlinux; the intermediate variable was already being optimized
away (for any respectable modern compiler, not doing so would be an
optimizer bug). Note that GCC provides its own version of RELOC_HIDE(),
so this change only affects Clang builds.

Add a test case to lib/test_context-analysis.c to catch any regressions.

Pull VDSO updates from Thomas Gleixner:

 - Provide the missing 64-bit variant of clock_getres()

   This allows the extension of CONFIG_COMPAT_32BIT_TIME to the vDSO and
   finally the removal of 32-bit time types from the kernel and UAPI.

 - Remove the useless and broken getcpu_cache from the VDSO

   The intention was to provide a trivial way to retrieve the CPU number
   from the VDSO, but as the VDSO data is per process there is no way to
   make it work.

 - Switch get/put_unaligned() from packed struct to memcpy()

   The packed struct violates strict aliasing rules which requires to
   pass -fno-strict-aliasing to the compiler. As this are scalar values
   __builtin_memcpy() turns them into simple loads and stores

 - Use __typeof_unqual__() for __unqual_scalar_typeof()

   The get/put_unaligned() changes triggered a new sparse warning when
   __beNN types are used with get/put_unaligned() as sparse builds add a
   special 'bitwise' attribute to them which prevents sparse to evaluate
   the Generic in __unqual_scalar_typeof().

   Newer sparse versions support __typeof_unqual__() which avoids the
   problem, but requires a recent sparse install. So this adds a sanity
   check to sparse builds, which validates that sparse is available and
   capable of handling it.

 - Force inline __cvdso_clock_getres_common()

   Compilers sometimes un-inline agressively, which results in function
   call overhead and problems with automatic stack variable
   initialization.

   Interestingly enough the force inlining results in smaller code than
   the un-inlined variant produced by GCC when optimizing for size.

The recent changes to get_unaligned() resulted in a new sparse warning:

The updated get_unaligned_t() uses __unqual_scalar_typeof() to get an
unqualified type. This works correctly for the compilers, but fails for
sparse when the data type is __be64 (or any other __beNN variant).

On sparse runs (C=[12]) __beNN types are annotated with
__attribute__((bitwise)).

That annotation allows sparse to detect incompatible operations on __beNN
variables, but it also prevents sparse from evaluating the _Generic() in
__unqual_scalar_typeof() and map __beNN to a unqualified scalar type, so it
ends up with the default, i.e. the original qualified type of a 'const
__beNN' pointer. That then ends up as the first pointer argument to
builtin_memcpy(), which obviously causes the above sparse warnings.

The sparse git tree supports typeof_unqual() now, which allows to use it
instead of the _Generic() based __unqual_scalar_typeof(). With that sparse
correctly evaluates the unqualified type and keeps the __beNN logic intact.

The downside is that this requires a top of tree sparse build and an old
sparse version will emit a metric ton of incomprehensible error messages
before it dies with a segfault.

Therefore implement a sanity check which validates that the checker is
available and capable of handling typeof_unqual(). Emit a warning if not so
the user can take informed action.

Marco ElverandPeter Zijlstra 3635ad8782 compiler: Let data_race() imply disabled context analysis
Many patterns that involve data-racy accesses often deliberately ignore
normal synchronization rules to avoid taking a lock.

If we have a lock-guarded variable on which we do a lock-less data-racy
access, rather than having to write context_unsafe(data_race(..)),
simply make the data_race(..) macro imply context-unsafety. The
data_race() macro already denotes the intent that something subtly
unsafe is about to happen, so it should be clear enough as-is.

      This series introduces the Live Update Orchestrator, a kernel
      subsystem designed to facilitate live kernel updates using a
      kexec-based reboot. This capability is critical for cloud
      environments, allowing hypervisors to be updated with minimal
      downtime for running virtual machines. LUO achieves this by
      preserving the state of selected resources, such as memory,
      devices and their dependencies, across the kernel transition.

      As a key feature, this series includes support for preserving
      memfd file descriptors, which allows critical in-memory data, such
      as guest RAM or any other large memory region, to be maintained in
      RAM across the kexec reboot.

   Mike Rappaport merits a mention here, for his extensive review and
   testing work.

 - "kexec: reorganize kexec and kdump sysfs" (Sourabh Jain)
   moves the kexec and kdump sysfs entries from /sys/kernel/ to
   /sys/kernel/kexec/ and adds back-compatibility symlinks which can
   hopefully be removed one day

 - "kho: fixes for vmalloc restoration" (Mike Rapoport)
   fixes a BUG which was being hit during KHO restoration of vmalloc()
   regions

Josh Poimboeuf 9f14f1f918 compiler.h: Make addressable symbols less of an eyesore
Avoid underscore overload by changing:

  __UNIQUE_ID___addressable_loops_per_jiffy_868

to the following:

  __UNIQUE_ID_addressable_loops_per_jiffy_868

This matches the format used by other __UNIQUE_ID()-generated symbols
and improves readability for those who stare at ELF symbol table dumps.

Josh Poimboeuf afb026b6d3 compiler: Tweak __UNIQUE_ID() naming
In preparation for the objtool klp diff subcommand, add an underscore
between the name and the counter.  This will make it possible for
objtool to distinguish between the non-unique and unique parts of the
symbol name so it can properly correlate the symbols.

Kees Cook 23ef9d4397 kcfi: Rename CONFIG_CFI_CLANG to CONFIG_CFI
The kernel's CFI implementation uses the KCFI ABI specifically, and is
not strictly tied to a particular compiler. In preparation for GCC
supporting KCFI, rename CONFIG_CFI_CLANG to CONFIG_CFI (along with
associated options).

Use new "transitional" Kconfig option for old CONFIG_CFI_CLANG that will
enable CONFIG_CFI during olddefconfig.

Jan BeulichandJuergen Gross 8ea815399c compiler: remove __ADDRESSABLE_ASM{_STR,}() again
__ADDRESSABLE_ASM_STR() is where the necessary stringification happens.
As long as "sym" doesn't contain any odd characters, no quoting is
required for its use with .quad / .long. In fact the quotation gets in
the way with gas 2.25; it's only from 2.26 onwards that quoted symbols
are half-way properly supported.

However, assembly being different from C anyway, drop
__ADDRESSABLE_ASM_STR() and its helper macro altogether. A simple
.global directive will suffice to get the symbol "declared", i.e. into
the symbol table. While there also stop open-coding STATIC_CALL_TRAMP()
and STATIC_CALL_KEY().

Vincent MailholandYury Norov 243c90e917 build_bug.h: more user friendly error messages in BUILD_BUG_ON_ZERO()
__BUILD_BUG_ON_ZERO_MSG(), as introduced in [1], makes it possible to
do a static assertions in expressions. The direct benefit is to
provide a meaningful error message instead of the cryptic negative
bitfield size error message currently returned by BUILD_BUG_ON_ZERO():

Get rid of BUILD_BUG_ON_ZERO()'s bitfield size hack. Instead rely on
__BUILD_BUG_ON_ZERO_MSG() which in turn relies on C11's
_Static_assert().

Use some macro magic, similarly to static_assert(), to either use an
optional error message provided by the user or, when omitted, to
produce a default error message by stringifying the tested
expression. With this, for example:

  BUILD_BUG_ON_ZERO(1 > 0)

would now throw:

 - The series "Some cleanup for memcg" from Chen Ridong implements some
   relatively monir cleanups for the memcontrol code.

 - The series "mm: fixes for device-exclusive entries (hmm)" from David
   Hildenbrand fixes a boatload of issues which David found then using
   device-exclusive PTE entries when THP is enabled. More work is
   needed, but this makes thins better - our own HMM selftests now
   succeed.

 - The series "mm: zswap: remove z3fold and zbud" from Yosry Ahmed
   remove the z3fold and zbud implementations. They have been deprecated
   for half a year and nobody has complained.

 - The series "mm: further simplify VMA merge operation" from Lorenzo
   Stoakes implements numerous simplifications in this area. No runtime
   effects are anticipated.

 - The series "mm/madvise: remove redundant mmap_lock operations from
   process_madvise()" from SeongJae Park rationalizes the locking in the
   madvise() implementation. Performance gains of 20-25% were observed
   in one MADV_DONTNEED microbenchmark.

 - The series "Tiny cleanup and improvements about SWAP code" from
   Baoquan He contains a number of touchups to issues which Baoquan
   noticed when working on the swap code.

 - The series "mm: kmemleak: Usability improvements" from Catalin
   Marinas implements a couple of improvements to the kmemleak
   user-visible output.

 - The series "mm/damon/paddr: fix large folios access and schemes
   handling" from Usama Arif provides a couple of fixes for DAMON's
   handling of large folios.

 - The series "mm/damon/core: fix wrong and/or useless damos_walk()
   behaviors" from SeongJae Park fixes a few issues with the accuracy of
   kdamond's walking of DAMON regions.

 - The series "expose mapping wrprotect, fix fb_defio use" from Lorenzo
   Stoakes changes the interaction between framebuffer deferred-io and
   core MM. No functional changes are anticipated - this is preparatory
   work for the future removal of page structure fields.

 - The series "mm/damon: add support for hugepage_size DAMOS filter"
   from Usama Arif adds a DAMOS filter which permits the filtering by
   huge page sizes.

 - The series "mm: permit guard regions for file-backed/shmem mappings"
   from Lorenzo Stoakes extends the guard region feature from its
   present "anon mappings only" state. The feature now covers shmem and
   file-backed mappings.

 - The series "mm: batched unmap lazyfree large folios during
   reclamation" from Barry Song cleans up and speeds up the unmapping
   for pte-mapped large folios.

 - The series "reimplement per-vma lock as a refcount" from Suren
   Baghdasaryan puts the vm_lock back into the vma. Our reasons for
   pulling it out were largely bogus and that change made the code more
   messy. This patchset provides small (0-10%) improvements on one
   microbenchmark.

 - The series "Docs/mm/damon: misc DAMOS filters documentation fixes and
   improves" from SeongJae Park does some maintenance work on the DAMON
   docs.

 - The series "hugetlb/CMA improvements for large systems" from Frank
   van der Linden addresses a pile of issues which have been observed
   when using CMA on large machines.

 - The series "mm/damon: introduce DAMOS filter type for unmapped pages"

Uros BizjakandAndrew Morton ac053946f5 compiler.h: introduce TYPEOF_UNQUAL() macro
Define TYPEOF_UNQUAL() to use __typeof_unqual__() as typeof operator when
available, to return unqualified type of the expression.

Current version of sparse doesn't know anything about __typeof_unqual__()
operator.  Avoid the usage of __typeof_unqual__() when sparse checking is
active to prevent sparse errors with unknowing keyword.

Kees Cook 9f25b1fb1c compiler.h: Introduce __must_be_noncstr()
In preparation for adding more type checking to the memtostr/strtomem*()
helpers, introduce the ability to check for the "nonstring" attribute.
This is the reverse of what was added to strscpy*() in commit 559048d156
("string: Check for "nonstring" attribute on strscpy() arguments").

Note that __annotated() must be explicitly tested for, as GCC added
__builtin_has_attribute() after it added the "nonstring" attribute. Do
so here to avoid the !__annotated() test triggering build failures
when __builtin_has_attribute() was missing but __nonstring was defined.
(I've opted to squash this fix into this patch so we don't end up with
a possible bisection target that would leave the kernel unbuildable.)

Ard BiesheuvelandJosh Poimboeuf 73cfc53cc3 objtool: Fix C jump table annotations for Clang
A C jump table (such as the one used by the BPF interpreter) is a const
global array of absolute code addresses, and this means that the actual
values in the table may not be known until the kernel is booted (e.g.,
when using KASLR or when the kernel VA space is sized dynamically).

When using PIE codegen, the compiler will default to placing such const
global objects in .data.rel.ro (which is annotated as writable), rather
than .rodata (which is annotated as read-only). As C jump tables are
explicitly emitted into .rodata, this used to result in warnings for
LoongArch builds (which uses PIE codegen for the entire kernel) like

  Warning: setting incorrect section attributes for .rodata..c_jump_table

due to the fact that the explicitly specified .rodata section inherited
the read-write annotation that the compiler uses for such objects when
using PIE codegen.

This warning was suppressed by explicitly adding the read-only
annotation to the __attribute__((section(""))) string, by commit

  c5b1184dec ("compiler.h: specify correct attribute for .rodata..c_jump_table")

Unfortunately, this hack does not work on Clang's integrated assembler,
which happily interprets the appended section type and permission
specifiers as part of the section name, which therefore no longer
matches the hard-coded pattern '.rodata..c_jump_table' that objtool
expects, causing it to emit a warning

  kernel/bpf/core.o: warning: objtool: ___bpf_prog_run+0x20: sibling call from callable instruction with modified stack frame

Work around this, by emitting C jump tables into .data.rel.ro instead,
which is treated as .rodata by the linker script for all builds, not
just PIE based ones.

Peter Zijlstra 582077c940 x86/cfi: Clean up linkage
With the introduction of kCFI the addition of ENDBR to
SYM_FUNC_START* no longer suffices to make the function indirectly
callable. This now requires the use of SYM_TYPED_FUNC_START.

As such, remove the implicit ENDBR from SYM_FUNC_START* and add some
explicit annotations to fix things up again.

Kees Cook 20e5cc26e5 compiler.h: Introduce __must_be_byte_array()
In preparation for adding stricter type checking to the str/mem*()
helpers, provide a way to check that a variable is a byte array
via __must_be_byte_array().

Kees Cook cb7380de9e compiler.h: Move C string helpers into C-only kernel section
The C kernel helpers for evaluating C Strings were positioned where they
were visible to assembly inclusion, which was not intended. Move them
into the kernel and C-only area of the header so future changes won't
confuse the assembler.
