Jori KoolstraandGreg Kroah-Hartman c230ae1f94 pps: change pps_class to a const struct
The class_create() call has been deprecated in favor of class_register()
as the driver core now allows for a struct class to be in read-only
memory. Change pps_class to be a const struct class and drop the
class_create() call.

Linus Torvalds bf4afc53b7 Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

Kees Cook 69050f8d6d treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Linus Torvalds 4d38b88fd1 Merge tag 'printk-for-6.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/printk/linux
Pull printk updates from Petr Mladek:

 - Allow creaing nbcon console drivers with an unsafe write_atomic()
   callback that can only be called by the final nbcon_atomic_flush_unsafe().
   Otherwise, the driver would rely on the kthread.

   It is going to be used as the-best-effort approach for an
   experimental nbcon netconsole driver, see

     https://lore.kernel.org/r/20251121-nbcon-v1-2-503d17b2b4af@debian.org

   Note that a safe .write_atomic() callback is supposed to work in NMI
   context. But some networking drivers are not safe even in IRQ
   context:

     https://lore.kernel.org/r/oc46gdpmmlly5o44obvmoatfqo5bhpgv7pabpvb6sjuqioymcg@gjsma3ghoz35

   In an ideal world, all networking drivers would be fixed first and
   the atomic flush would be blocked only in NMI context. But it brings
   the question how reliable networking drivers are when the system is
   in a bad state. They might block flushing more reliable serial
   consoles which are more suitable for serious debugging anyway.

 - Allow to use the last 4 bytes of the printk ring buffer.

 - Prevent queuing IRQ work and block printk kthreads when consoles are
   suspended. Otherwise, they create non-necessary churn or even block
   the suspend.

 - Release console_lock() between each record in the kthread used for
   legacy consoles on RT. It might significantly speed up the boot.

 - Release nbcon context between each record in the atomic flush. It
   prevents stalls of the related printk kthread after it has lost the
   ownership in the middle of a record

 - Add support for NBCON consoles into KDB

 - Add %ptsP modifier for printing struct timespec64 and use it where
   possible

 - Misc code clean up

Before commit c79a39dc8d ("pps: Fix a use-after-free"),
pps_register_cdev() call device_create() to create pps->dev, which will
init dev->release to device_create_release(). Now the comment is outdated,
just remove it.

Thanks for the reminder from Calvin Owens, 'kfree_pps' should be removed
in pps_register_source() to avoid a double free in the failure case.

Denis OSTERLAND-HEIMandGreg Kroah-Hartman 12c409aa1e pps: fix poll support
Because pps_cdev_poll() returns unconditionally EPOLLIN,
a user space program that calls select/poll get always an immediate data
ready-to-read response. As a result the intended use to wait until next
data becomes ready does not work.

User space snippet:

    struct pollfd pollfd = {
      .fd = open("/dev/pps0", O_RDONLY),
      .events = POLLIN|POLLERR,
      .revents = 0 };
    while(1) {
      poll(&pollfd, 1, 2000/*ms*/); // returns immediate, but should wait
      if(revents & EPOLLIN) { // always true
        struct pps_fdata fdata;
        memset(&fdata, 0, sizeof(memdata));
        ioctl(PPS_FETCH, &fdata); // currently fetches data at max speed
      }
    }

Lets remember the last fetch event counter and compare this value
in pps_cdev_poll() with most recent event counter
and return 0 if they are equal.

Eliav FarberandGreg Kroah-Hartman 6bca1e9558 pps: clients: gpio: fix interrupt handling order in remove path
The interrupt handler in pps_gpio_probe() is registered after calling
pps_register_source() using devm_request_irq(). However, in the
corresponding remove function, pps_unregister_source() is called before
the IRQ is freed, since devm-managed resources are released after the
remove function completes.

This creates a potential race condition where an interrupt may occur
after the PPS source is unregistered but before the handler is removed,
possibly leading to a kernel panic.

To prevent this, switch from devm-managed IRQ registration to manual
management by using request_irq() and calling free_irq() explicitly in
the remove path before unregistering the PPS source. This ensures the
interrupt handler is safely removed before deactivating the PPS source.

Subramanian MohanandGreg Kroah-Hartman c89755d111 pps: generators: Add PPS Generator TIO Driver
The Intel Timed IO PPS generator driver outputs a PPS signal using
dedicated hardware that is more accurate than software actuated PPS.
The Timed IO hardware generates output events using the ART timer.
The ART timer period varies based on platform type, but is less than 100
nanoseconds for all current platforms. Timed IO output accuracy is
within 1 ART period.

PPS output is enabled by writing '1' the 'enable' sysfs attribute. The
driver uses hrtimers to schedule a wake-up 10 ms before each event
(edge) target time. At wakeup, the driver converts the target time in
terms of CLOCK_REALTIME to ART trigger time and writes this to the Timed
IO hardware. The Timed IO hardware generates an event precisely at the
requested system time without software involvement.

Subramanian MohanandGreg Kroah-Hartman ac9c5170a1 pps: generators: replace copy of pps-gen info struct with const pointer
Some PPS generator drivers may need to retrieve a pointer to their
internal data while executing the PPS generator enable() method.

During the driver registration the pps_gen_device pointer is returned
from the framework, and for that reason, there is difficulty in
getting generator driver data back in the enable function. We won't be
able to use container_of macro as it results in static assert, and we
might end up in using static pointer.

To solve the issue and to get back the generator driver data back, we
should not copy the struct pps_gen_source_info within the struct
pps_gen_device during the registration stage, but simply save the
pointer of the driver one. In this manner, driver may get a pointer
to their internal data as shown below:

struct pps_gen_foo_data_s {
        ...
	struct pps_gen_source_info gen_info;
	struct pps_gen_device *pps_gen;
	...
};

static int __init pps_gen_foo_init(void)
{
        struct pps_gen_foo_data_s *foo;
	...
        foo->pps_gen = pps_gen_register_source(&foo->gen_info);
	...
}

Then, in the enable() method, we can retrieve the pointer to the main
struct by using the code below:

static int pps_gen_foo_enable(struct pps_gen_device *pps_gen, bool enable)
{
        struct pps_gen_foo_data_s *foo = container_of(pps_gen->info,
						struct pps_gen_foo_data_s, gen_info);
        ...
}

Rodolfo GiomettiandGreg Kroah-Hartman 86b525bed2 drivers pps: add PPS generators support
Sometimes one needs to be able not only to catch PPS signals but to
produce them also. For example, running a distributed simulation,
which requires computers' clock to be synchronized very tightly.

This patch adds PPS generators class in order to have a well-defined
interface for these devices.

    refcount_t: underflow; use-after-free.
    kernel BUG at lib/list_debug.c:62!
    Kernel panic - not syncing: Oops - BUG: Fatal exception

This happens because pps_device_destruct() frees the pps_device with the
embedded cdev immediately after calling cdev_del(), but, as the comment
above cdev_del() notes, fops for previously opened cdevs are still
callable even after cdev_del() returns. I think this bug has always
been there: I can't explain why it suddenly started happening every time
I reboot this particular board.

In commit d953e0e837 ("pps: Fix a use-after free bug when
unregistering a source."), George Spelvin suggested removing the
embedded cdev. That seems like the simplest way to fix this, so I've
implemented his suggestion, using __register_chrdev() with pps_idr
becoming the source of truth for which minor corresponds to which
device.

But now that pps_idr defines userspace visibility instead of cdev_add(),
we need to be sure the pps->dev refcount can't reach zero while
userspace can still find it again. So, the idr_remove() call moves to
pps_unregister_cdev(), and pps_idr now holds a reference to pps->dev.

    pps_core: source serial1 got cdev (251:1)
    <...>
    pps pps1: removed
    pps_core: unregistering pps1
    pps_core: deallocating pps1

Linus Torvalds e70140ba0d Get rid of 'remove_new' relic from platform driver struct
The continual trickle of small conversion patches is grating on me, and
is really not helping. Just get rid of the 'remove_new' member
function, which is just an alias for the plain 'remove', and had a
comment to that effect:

  /*
   * .remove_new() is a relic from a prototype conversion of .remove().
   * New drivers are supposed to implement .remove(). Once all drivers are
   * converted to not use .remove_new any more, it will be dropped.
   */

This was just a tree-wide 'sed' script that replaced '.remove_new' with
'.remove', with some care taken to turn a subsequent tab into two tabs
to make things line up.

I did do some minimal manual whitespace adjustment for places that used
spaces to line things up.

Then I just removed the old (sic) .remove_new member function, and this
is the end result. No more unnecessary conversion noise.

Al ViroandLinus Torvalds cb787f4ac0 [tree-wide] finally take no_llseek out
no_llseek had been defined to NULL two years ago, in commit 868941b144
("fs: remove no_llseek")

To quote that commit,

  At -rc1 we'll need do a mechanical removal of no_llseek -

  git grep -l -w no_llseek | grep -v porting.rst | while read i; do
	sed -i '/\<no_llseek\>/d' $i
  done

  would do it.

Unfortunately, that hadn't been done. Linus, could you do that now, so
that we could finally put that thing to rest? All instances are of the
form
	.llseek = no_llseek,
so it's obviously safe.

Ma KeandGreg Kroah-Hartman 62c5a01a57 pps: add an error check in parport_attach
In parport_attach, the return value of ida_alloc is unchecked, witch leads
to the use of an invalid index value.

To address this issue, index should be checked. When the index value is
abnormal, the device should be freed.

Found by code review, compile tested only.
