The file extension of each file within an application is mapped to a corresponding build provider. The ASP.NET build environment initializes a <see cref="T:System.Web.Compilation.BuildProvider" /> instance for each file based on the file extension, and uses the <see cref="T:System.Web.Compilation.BuildProvider" /> methods to generate source code for the file.
