drivers/base/memory: make memory block get/put explicit
Rename the memory block lookup helper to make the acquired reference explicit, add memory_block_put() to wrap put_device(), remove find_memory_block(), and use memory_block_get() as the single block-id based lookup interface. This makes it clearer to callers that a successful lookup holds a reference that must be dropped, reducing the chance of forgetting the matching put and leaking the memory block device reference. mm/memory_hotplug: factor out altmap freeing checks
Use a small helper to centralize altmap freeing after verifying that all vmemmap pages were released. This keeps the check consistent between the normal teardown path and the memory hotplug error paths. mm/sparse-vmemmap: pass @pgmap argument to memory deactivation paths
Currently, the memory hot-remove call chain -- arch_remove_memory(), __remove_pages(), sparse_remove_section() and section_deactivate() -- does not carry the struct dev_pagemap pointer. This prevents the lower levels from knowing whether the section was originally populated with vmemmap optimizations (e.g., DAX with vmemmap optimization enabled). Without this information, we cannot call vmemmap_can_optimize() to determine if the vmemmap pages were optimized. As a result, the vmemmap page accounting during teardown will mistakenly assume a non-optimized allocation, leading to incorrect memmap statistics. To lay the groundwork for fixing the vmemmap page accounting, we need to pass the @pgmap pointer down to the deactivation location. Plumb the @pgmap argument through the APIs of arch_remove_memory(), __remove_pages() and sparse_remove_section(), mirroring the corresponding *_activate() paths. mm/memory_hotplug: fix incorrect altmap passing in error path
In create_altmaps_and_memory_blocks(), when arch_add_memory() succeeds
with memmap_on_memory enabled, the vmemmap pages are allocated from
params.altmap. If create_memory_block_devices() subsequently fails, the
error path calls arch_remove_memory() with a NULL altmap instead of
params.altmap.
This is a bug that could lead to memory corruption. Since altmap is NULL,
vmemmap_free() falls back to freeing the vmemmap pages into the system
buddy allocator via free_pages() instead of the altmap.
arch_remove_memory() then immediately destroys the physical linear mapping
for this memory. This injects unowned pages into the buddy allocator,
causing machine checks or memory corruption if the system later attempts
to allocate and use those freed pages.
Fix this by passing params.altmap to arch_remove_memory() in the error
path.

mm/memory_hotplug: fix memory block reference leak on remove
Patch series "mm: Fix memory block leaks and locking", v2.
This series fixes two memory block device reference leaks and one locking
issue around the per-memory_block hwpoison counter.
This patch (of 2):
remove_memory_blocks_and_altmaps() looks up each memory block with
find_memory_block(), which acquires a reference to the memory block
device.
That reference is never dropped on this path, resulting in a leaked device
reference when removing memory blocks and their altmaps. Drop the
reference after retrieving mem->altmap and clearing mem->altmap, before
removing the memory block device.

mm/memory_hotplug: maintain N_NORMAL_MEMORY during hotplug
N_NORMAL_MEMORY is initialized from zone population at boot, but memory hotplug currently only updates N_MEMORY. As a result, a node that gains normal memory via hotplug can remain invisible to users iterating over N_NORMAL_MEMORY, while a node that loses its last normal memory can stay incorrectly marked as such. The most visible effect is that /sys/devices/system/node/has_normal_memory does not report a node even after that node has gained normal memory via hotplug. Also, list_lru-based shrinkers can undercount objects on such a node and may skip reclaim on that node entirely, which can lead to a higher memory footprint than expected. Restore N_NORMAL_MEMORY maintenance directly in online_pages() and offline_pages(). Set the bit when a node that currently lacks normal memory onlines pages into a zone <= ZONE_NORMAL, and clear it when offlining removes the last present pages from zones <= ZONE_NORMAL. This restores the intended semantics without bringing back the old status_change_nid_normal notifier plumbing which was removed in |

mm/memory_hotplug: fix possible race in scan_movable_pages()
Patch series "mm: memory hot(un)plug and SPARSEMEM cleanups", v2.
Some cleanups around memory hot(un)plug and SPARSEMEM. In essence, we can
limit CONFIG_MEMORY_HOTPLUG to CONFIG_SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP, remove some dead
code, and move all the hotplug bits over to mm/sparse-vmemmap.c.
Some further/related cleanups around other unnecessary code (memory hole
handling and complicated usemap allocation).
I have some further sparse.c cleanups lying around, and I'm planning on
getting rid of bootmem_info.c entirely.
This patch (of 15):
If a hugetlb folio gets freed while we are in scan_movable_pages(),
folio_nr_pages() could return 0, resulting in or'ing "0 - 1 = -1" to the
PFN, resulting in PFN = -1. We're not holding any locks or references
that would prevent that.
for_each_valid_pfn() would then search for the next valid PFN, and could
return a PFN that is outside of the range of the original requested range.
do_migrate_page() would then try to migrate quite a big range, which is
certainly undesirable.
To fix it, simply test for valid folio_nr_pages() values. While at it, as
PageHuge() really just does a page_folio() internally, we can just use
folio_test_hugetlb() on the folio directly.
scan_movable_pages() is expected to be fast, and we try to avoid taking
locks or grabbing references. We cannot use folio_try_get() as that does
not work for free hugetlb folios. We could grab the hugetlb_lock, but
that just adds complexity.
The race is unlikely to trigger in practice, so we won't be CCing stable.

mm: name the anonymous MMOP enum as enum mmop
Give the MMOP enum (MMOP_OFFLINE, MMOP_ONLINE, etc) a proper type name so the compiler can help catch invalid values being assigned to variables of this type. Leave the existing functions returning int alone to allow for value-or-error pattern to remain unchanged without churn. mmop_default_online_type is left as int because it uses the -1 sentinal value to signal it hasn't been initialized yet. Keep the uint8_t buffer in offline_and_remove_memory() as-is for space efficiency, with an explicit cast when we consume the value. Move the enum definition before the CONFIG_MEMORY_HOTPLUG guard so it is unconditionally available for struct memory_block in memory.h. No functional change. drivers/base/node: fold register_node() into register_one_node()
Patch series "drivers/base/node: fold node register and unregister functions", v2. The first patch merges register_one_node() and register_node(), leaving a single register_node() function. The second patch merges unregister_one_node() and unregister_node(), leaving a single unregister_node() function. There are no functional changes in these patches. This patch (of 2): register_node() is only called from register_one_node(). This patch folds register_node() into its only caller and renames register_one_node() to register_node(). This reduces unnecessary indirection and simplifies the code structure. No functional changes are introduced. mm/memory_hotplug: Remove MEM_PREPARE_ONLINE/MEM_FINISH_OFFLINE notifiers
MEM_PREPARE_ONLINE/MEM_FINISH_OFFLINE memory notifiers were introduced
to prepare the transition of memory to and from a physically accessible
state. This enhancement was crucial for implementing the "memmap on memory"
feature for s390.
With introduction of dynamic (de)configuration of hotpluggable memory,
memory can be brought to accessible state before add_memory(). Memory
can be brought to inaccessible state before remove_memory(). Hence,
there is no need of MEM_PREPARE_ONLINE/MEM_FINISH_OFFLINE memory
notifiers anymore.
This basically reverts commit

mm/memory_hotplug: activate node before adding new memory blocks
The sysfs attributes for memory blocks require the node ID to be set and
initialized, so move the node activation before adding new memory blocks.
This also has the nice side effect that the BUG_ON() can be converted into
a WARN_ON() as we now can handle registration errors.

Besides, do_migrate_range() may be called between memory_failure set
hwpoison flag and isolate the folio from lru, so remove WARN_ON(). In other
places, unmap_poisoned_folio() is called when the folio is isolated, obey
it in do_migrate_range() too.

mm/page_isolation: remove migratetype parameter from more functions
migratetype is no longer overwritten during pageblock isolation, start_isolate_page_range(), has_unmovable_pages(), and set_migratetype_isolate() no longer need which migratetype to restore during isolation failure. For has_unmoable_pages(), it needs to know if the isolation is for CMA allocation, so adding PB_ISOLATE_MODE_CMA_ALLOC provide the information. At the same time change isolation flags to enum pb_isolate_mode (PB_ISOLATE_MODE_MEM_OFFLINE, PB_ISOLATE_MODE_CMA_ALLOC, PB_ISOLATE_MODE_OTHER). Remove REPORT_FAILURE and check PB_ISOLATE_MODE_MEM_OFFLINE, since only PB_ISOLATE_MODE_MEM_OFFLINE reports isolation failures. alloc_contig_range() no longer needs migratetype. Replace it with a newly defined acr_flags_t to tell if an allocation is for CMA. So does __alloc_contig_migrate_range(). Add ACR_FLAGS_NONE (set to 0) to indicate ordinary allocations.
