Thomas HuthandJuergen Gross 26d060ba39 xen: Replace __ASSEMBLY__ with __ASSEMBLER__ in header files
While the GCC and Clang compilers already define __ASSEMBLER__
automatically when compiling assembly code, __ASSEMBLY__ is a
macro that only gets defined by the Makefiles in the kernel.
This can be very confusing when switching between userspace
and kernelspace coding, or when dealing with uapi headers that
rather should use __ASSEMBLER__ instead. So let's standardize now
on the __ASSEMBLER__ macro that is provided by the compilers.

This is a completely mechanical patch (done with a simple "sed -i"
statement).

Jason AndryukandJuergen Gross bdd5de3d9e hvc/xen: Check console connection flag
When the console out buffer is filled, __write_console() will return 0
as it cannot send any data. domU_write_console() will then spin in
`while (len)` as len doesn't decrement until xenconsoled attaches. This
would block a domU and nullify the parallelism of Hyperlaunch until dom0
userspace starts xenconsoled, which empties the buffer.

Xen 4.21 added a connection field to the xen console page. This is set
to XENCONSOLE_DISCONNECTED (1) when a domain is built, and xenconsoled
will set it to XENCONSOLE_CONNECTED (0) when it connects.

Update the hvc_xen driver to check the field. When the field is
disconnected, drop the write with -ENOTCONN. We only drop the write
when the field is XENCONSOLE_DISCONNECTED (1) to try for maximum
compatibility. The Xen toolstack has historically zero initialized the
console, so it should see XENCONSOLE_CONNECTED (0) by default. If an
implemenation used uninitialized memory, only checking for
XENCONSOLE_DISCONNECTED could have the lowest chance of not connecting.

This lets the hyperlaunched domU boot without stalling. Once dom0
starts xenconsoled, xl console can be used to access the domU's hvc0.

Paritally sync console.h from xen.git to bring in the new field.

Jiqian ChenandJuergen Gross 88801d043b xen/pci: Add a function to reset device for xen
When device on dom0 side has been reset, the vpci on Xen side
won't get notification, so that the cached state in vpci is
all out of date with the real device state.
To solve that problem, add a new function to clear all vpci
device state when device is reset on dom0 side.

And call that function in pcistub_init_device. Because when
using "pci-assignable-add" to assign a passthrough device in
Xen, it will reset passthrough device and the vpci state will
out of date, and then device will fail to restore bar state.

Viresh KumarandJuergen Gross f0d7db7b33 xen: privcmd: Add support for ioeventfd
Virtio guests send VIRTIO_MMIO_QUEUE_NOTIFY notification when they need
to notify the backend of an update to the status of the virtqueue. The
backend or another entity, polls the MMIO address for updates to know
when the notification is sent.

It works well if the backend does this polling by itself. But as we move
towards generic backend implementations, we end up implementing this in
a separate user-space program.

Generally, the Virtio backends are implemented to work with the Eventfd
based mechanism. In order to make such backends work with Xen, another
software layer needs to do the polling and send an event via eventfd to
the backend once the notification from guest is received. This results
in an extra context switch.

This is not a new problem in Linux though. It is present with other
hypervisors like KVM, etc. as well. The generic solution implemented in
the kernel for them is to provide an IOCTL call to pass the address to
poll and eventfd, which lets the kernel take care of polling and raise
an event on the eventfd, instead of handling this in user space (which
involves an extra context switch).

This patch adds similar support for xen.

Inspired by existing implementations for KVM, etc..

This also copies ioreq.h header file (only struct ioreq and related
macros) from Xen's source tree (Top commit 5d84f07fe6bf ("xen/pci: drop
remaining uses of bool_t")).

Juergen GrossandBoris Ostrovsky 9e2b3e834c xen: fix wrong SPDX headers of Xen related headers
Commit b24413180f ("License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license
identifier to files with no license") was meant to do a tree-wide
cleanup for files without any license information by adding a SPDX
GPL-2.0 line to them.

Unfortunately this was applied even to several Xen-related headers
which have been originally under the MIT license, but obviously have
been copied to the Linux tree from the Xen project without keeping the
license boiler plate as required.

Correct that by changing the license of those files back to "MIT".

Some files still contain the MIT license text. Replace that by the
related SPDX line.

The section "19) Editor modelines and other cruft" in
Documentation/process/coding-style.rst clearly says, "Do not include any

I recently receive a patch to explicitly add a new one.

Let's do treewide cleanups, otherwise some people follow the existing code
and attempt to upstream their favoriate editor setups.

It is even nicer if scripts/checkpatch.pl can check it.

If we like to impose coding style in an editor-independent manner, I think
editorconfig (patch [1]) is a saner solution.

Oleksandr AndrushchenkoandJuergen Gross 6f92337b6b xen: Sync up with the canonical protocol definition in Xen
This is the sync up with the canonical definition of the
display protocol in Xen.

1. Add protocol version as an integer

Version string, which is in fact an integer, is hard to handle in the
code that supports different protocol versions. To simplify that
also add the version as an integer.

2. Pass buffer offset with XENDISPL_OP_DBUF_CREATE

There are cases when display data buffer is created with non-zero
offset to the data start. Handle such cases and provide that offset
while creating a display buffer.

3. Add XENDISPL_OP_GET_EDID command

Add an optional request for reading Extended Display Identification
Data (EDID) structure which allows better configuration of the
display connectors over the configuration set in XenStore.
With this change connectors may have multiple resolutions defined
with respect to detailed timing definitions and additional properties
normally provided by displays.

If this request is not supported by the backend then visible area
is defined by the relevant XenStore's "resolution" property.

If backend provides extended display identification data (EDID) with
XENDISPL_OP_GET_EDID request then EDID values must take precedence
over the resolutions defined in XenStore.

4. Bump protocol version to 2.
