Instead of using zalloc(nr_entries * sizeof_entry) that is what calloc()
does.

In some places where linux/zalloc.h isn't needed, remove it, add when
needed and was getting it indirectly.

Ian RogersandNamhyung Kim 046fd8206d perf tools: Make more global variables static
`make check` will run sparse on the perf code base. A frequent warning
is "warning: symbol '...' was not declared. Should it be static?" Go
through and make global definitions without declarations static.

In some cases it is deliberate due to dlsym accessing the symbol, this
change doesn't clean up the missing declarations for perf test suites.

Sometimes things can opportunistically be made const.

Making somethings static exposed unused functions warnings, so
restructuring of ifdefs was necessary for that.

These changes reduce the size of the perf binary by 568 bytes.

Refreshed the patch, the original one fell thru the cracks, updated the
size reduction.

Remove the trace-event-scripting.c changes, break the build, noticed
with container builds and with sashiko:

Ian RogersandNamhyung Kim aeae075a03 perf sample: Add evsel to struct perf_sample
Add the evsel from evsel__parse_sample into the struct
perf_sample. Sometimes we want to alter the evsel associated with a
sample, such as with off-cpu bpf-output events. In general the evsel
and perf_sample are passed as a pair, but this makes an altered evsel
something of a chore to keep checking for and setting up. Later
patches will remove passing an evsel with the perf_sample and switch
to just using the perf_sample's value.

Ian RogersandNamhyung Kim 8a4aab17c3 perf header: Refactor pipe mode end marker handling
In non-pipe/data mode the header has a 256-bit bitmap representing
whether a feature is enabled or not. In pipe mode features are written
out in perf_event__synthesize_features as PERF_RECORD_HEADER_FEATURE
events with a special zero sized marker for the last feature. If a new
feature is added the last feature marker event appears as that feature
from old pipe mode perf data. As the event is zero sized it will fail
to be processed and generally terminate perf.

Add a last_feat variable to the header that in non-pipe/data mode is
just HEADER_LAST_FEATURE. In pipe mode compute the last_feat by
handling zero sized feature events, assuming they are the marker and
updating last_feat accordingly. Potentially a feature event could be
zero sized and so still process the feature event, just ignore the
error if it fails.

As perf_event__process_feature can properly handle pipe mode data,
migrate users to it except for report that still wants to group events
and stop header printing with the last feature marker. Make
perf_event__process_feature non-fatal in the case of a newer feature
than this version of perf's HEADER_LAST_FEATURE, which was the
behavior all users wanted.

Ian RogersandNamhyung Kim 83c338369a libperf cpumap: Make index and nr types unsigned
The index into the cpumap array and the number of entries within the
array can never be negative, so let's make them unsigned. This is
prompted by reports that gcc 13 with -O6 is giving a
alloc-size-larger-than errors. The change makes the cpumap changes and
then updates the declaration of index variables throughout perf and
libperf to be unsigned. The two things are hard to separate as
compiler warnings about mixing signed and unsigned types breaks the
build.

Changbin DuandNamhyung Kim f182573e06 perf tools: Add layout support for --symfs option
Add support for parsing an optional layout parameter in the --symfs
command line option. The format is:

  --symfs <directory[,layout]>

Where layout can be:
  - 'hierarchy': matches full path (default)
  - 'flat': only matches base name

When debugging symbol files from a copy of the filesystem (e.g., from a
container or remote machine), the debug files are often stored in a
flat directory structure with only filenames, not the full original
paths. In this case, using 'flat' layout allows perf to find debug
symbols by matching only the filename rather than the full path.

For example, given a binary path like:
  /build/output/lib/foo.so

With 'perf report --symfs /debug/files,flat', perf will look for:
  /debug/files/foo.so

Instead of:
  /debug/files/build/output/lib/foo.so

This is particularly useful when:
- Extracting debug files from containers with different directory layouts
- Working with build systems that flatten directory structures

This has two issues:
- The description says no event is a single dash, but that is not what is printed.
- The b in brcntr is ambigious with the hex numbers in insns, which
  breaks with --xed. It parses the b as another instruction byte and
merges the instruction with a missing b and no space:

  ...

This patches fixes these two problems. It moves the brcntr output into
the "#" comment which also looks nicer and also fixes the no event case.

Since the old broken format has shipped for a few releases there is a
risk of breaking some existing parser, but since this is a obscure

Allow the script generated by "perf script -g <language>" to be a file
path and the language determined by the file extension.

This is useful in testing so that the generated script file can be
written to a test directory.

The script_fetch_insn code was only supported on natively running x86.

Implement a crude elf_machine_max_instruction_length function and use to
give an instruction length on more than just x86.

Use the ELF machine to determine the length to use to support
cross-architecture development.

Ian RogersandArnaldo Carvalho de Melo 4e66527f88 perf thread: Add optional e_flags output argument to thread__e_machine
The e_flags are needed to accurately compute complete perf register
information for CSKY.

Add the ability to read and have this value associated with a thread.

This change doesn't wire up the use of the e_flags except in disasm
where use already exists but just wasn't set up yet.

The arch string requires multiple strcmp to identify things like the
IP and SP.

Switch to passing in an e_machine that in the bulk of cases is computed
using a current thread load.

The e_machine also allows identification of 32-bit vs 64-bit processes.

Namhyung Kim 9b4525fd08 perf tools: Merge deferred user callchains
Save samples with deferred callchains in a separate list and deliver
them after merging the user callchains.  If users don't want to merge
they can set tool->merge_deferred_callchains to false to prevent the
behavior.

With previous result, now perf script will show the merged callchains.

Ian RogersandNamhyung Kim 754187ad73 perf build: Remove NO_AUXTRACE build option
The NO_AUXTRACE build option was used when the __get_cpuid feature
test failed or if it was provided on the command line. The option no
longer avoids a dependency on a library and so having the option is
just adding complexity to the code base. Remove the option
CONFIG_AUXTRACE from Build files and HAVE_AUXTRACE_SUPPORT by assuming
it is always defined.

Ian RogersandNamhyung Kim b71f46a6a7 perf stat: Remove hard coded shadow metrics
Now that the metrics are encoded in common json the hard coded
printing means the metrics are shown twice. Remove the hard coded
version.

This means that when specifying events, and those events correspond to
a hard coded metric, the metric will no longer be displayed. The
metric will be displayed if the metric is requested. Due to the adhoc
printing in the previous approach it was often found frustrating, the
new approach avoids this.

The default perf stat output on an alderlake now looks like:

Ian RogersandNamhyung Kim 3622990efa perf script: Change metric format to use json metrics
The metric format option isn't properly supported. This change
improves that by making the sample events update the counts of an
evsel, where the shadow metric code expects to read the values.  To
support printing metrics, metrics need to be found. This is done on
the first attempt to print a metric. Every metric is parsed and then
the evsels in the metric's evlist compared to those in perf script
using the perf_event_attr type and config. If the metric matches then
it is added for printing. As an event in the perf script's evlist may
have >1 metric id, or different leader for aggregation, the first
metric matched will be displayed in those cases.

An example use is:

Ian RogersandNamhyung Kim 71062e282d perf tool: Add the perf_tool argument to all callbacks
Getting context for what a tool is doing, such as the perf_inject
instance, using container_of the tool is a common pattern in the
code. This isn't possible event_op2, event_op3 and event_op4 callbacks
as the tool isn't passed. Add the argument and then fix function
signatures to match. As tools maybe reading a tool from somewhere
else, change that code to use the passed in tool.

Ian RogersandArnaldo Carvalho de Melo bbb99668b5 perf capstone: Move capstone functionality into its own file
Capstone disassembly support was split between disasm.c and
print_insn.c. Move support out of these files into capstone.[ch] and
remove include capstone/capstone.h from those files. As disassembly
routines can fail, make failure the only option without
HAVE_LIBCAPSTONE_SUPPORT. For simplicity's sake, duplicate the
read_symbol utility function.

The intent with moving capstone support into a single file is that
dynamic support, using dlopen for libcapstone, can be added in later
patches. This can potentially always succeed or fail, so relying on
ifdefs isn't sufficient. Using dlopen is a useful option to minimize
the perf tools dependencies and potentially size.

Ian RogersandNamhyung Kim 8882095b1d perf sample: Remove arch notion of sample parsing
By definition arch sample parsing and synthesis will inhibit certain
kinds of cross-platform record then analysis (report, script,
etc.). Remove arch_perf_parse_sample_weight and
arch_perf_synthesize_sample_weight replacing with a common
implementation. Combine perf_sample p_stage_cyc and retire_lat as
weight3 to capture the differing uses regardless of compiled for
architecture.
