Jiayuan ChenandJakub Kicinski ca220141fa kcm: fix zero-frag skb in frag_list on partial sendmsg error
Syzkaller reported a warning in kcm_write_msgs() when processing a
message with a zero-fragment skb in the frag_list.

When kcm_sendmsg() fills MAX_SKB_FRAGS fragments in the current skb,
it allocates a new skb (tskb) and links it into the frag_list before
copying data. If the copy subsequently fails (e.g. -EFAULT from
user memory), tskb remains in the frag_list with zero fragments:

  head skb (msg being assembled, NOT yet in sk_write_queue)
  +-----------+
  | frags[17] |  (MAX_SKB_FRAGS, all filled with data)
  | frag_list-+--> tskb
  +-----------+    +----------+
                   | frags[0] | (empty! copy failed before filling)
                   +----------+

For SOCK_SEQPACKET with partial data already copied, the error path
saves this message via partial_message for later completion. For
SOCK_SEQPACKET, sock_write_iter() automatically sets MSG_EOR, so a
subsequent zero-length write(fd, NULL, 0) completes the message and
queues it to sk_write_queue. kcm_write_msgs() then walks the
frag_list and hits:

  WARN_ON(!skb_shinfo(skb)->nr_frags)

TCP has a similar pattern where skbs are enqueued before data copy
and cleaned up on failure via tcp_remove_empty_skb(). KCM was
missing the equivalent cleanup.

Fix this by tracking the predecessor skb (frag_prev) when allocating
a new frag_list entry. On error, if the tail skb has zero frags,
use frag_prev to unlink and free it in O(1) without walking the
singly-linked frag_list. frag_prev is safe to dereference because
the entire message chain is only held locally (or in kcm->seq_skb)
and is not added to sk_write_queue until MSG_EOR, so the send path
cannot free it underneath us.

Also change the WARN_ON to WARN_ON_ONCE to avoid flooding the log
if the condition is somehow hit repeatedly.

There are currently no KCM selftests in the kernel tree; a simple
reproducer is available at [1].

Linus Torvalds 8f7aa3d3c7 Merge tag 'net-next-6.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net-next
Pull networking updates from Jakub Kicinski:
 "Core & protocols:

   - Replace busylock at the Tx queuing layer with a lockless list.

     Resulting in a 300% (4x) improvement on heavy TX workloads, sending
     twice the number of packets per second, for half the cpu cycles.

   - Allow constantly busy flows to migrate to a more suitable CPU/NIC
     queue.

     Normally we perform queue re-selection when flow comes out of idle,
     but under extreme circumstances the flows may be constantly busy.

     Add sysctl to allow periodic rehashing even if it'd risk packet
     reordering.

   - Optimize the NAPI skb cache, make it larger, use it in more paths.

   - Attempt returning Tx skbs to the originating CPU (like we already
     did for Rx skbs).

   - Various data structure layout and prefetch optimizations from Eric.

   - Remove ktime_get() from the recvmsg() fast path, ktime_get() is
     sadly quite expensive on recent AMD machines.

   - Extend threaded NAPI polling to allow the kthread busy poll for
     packets.

   - Make MPTCP use Rx backlog processing. This lowers the lock
     pressure, improving the Rx performance.

   - Support memcg accounting of MPTCP socket memory.

   - Allow admin to opt sockets out of global protocol memory accounting
     (using a sysctl or BPF-based policy). The global limits are a poor
     fit for modern container workloads, where limits are imposed using
     cgroups.

   - Improve heuristics for when to kick off AF_UNIX garbage collection.

   - Allow users to control TCP SACK compression, and default to 33% of
     RTT.

   - Add tcp_rcvbuf_low_rtt sysctl to let datacenter users avoid
     unnecessarily aggressive rcvbuf growth and overshot when the
     connection RTT is low.

   - Preserve skb metadata space across skb_push / skb_pull operations.

   - Support for IPIP encapsulation in the nftables flowtable offload.

   - Support appending IP interface information to ICMP messages (RFC
     5837).

   - Support setting max record size in TLS (RFC 8449).

   - Remove taking rtnl_lock from RTM_GETNEIGHTBL and RTM_SETNEIGHTBL.

   - Use a dedicated lock (and RCU) in MPLS, instead of rtnl_lock.

   - Let users configure the number of write buffers in SMC.

   - Add new struct sockaddr_unsized for sockaddr of unknown length,
     from Kees.

   - Some conversions away from the crypto_ahash API, from Eric Biggers.

   - Some preparations for slimming down struct page.

   - YAML Netlink protocol spec for WireGuard.

   - Add a tool on top of YAML Netlink specs/lib for reporting commonly
     computed derived statistics and summarized system state.

  Driver API:

   - Add CAN XL support to the CAN Netlink interface.

   - Add uAPI for reporting PHY Mean Square Error (MSE) diagnostics, as
     defined by the OPEN Alliance's "Advanced diagnostic features for
     100BASE-T1 automotive Ethernet PHYs" specification.

   - Add DPLL phase-adjust-gran pin attribute (and implement it in
     zl3073x).

   - Refactor xfrm_input lock to reduce contention when NIC offloads
     IPsec and performs RSS.

   - Add info to devlink params whether the current setting is the
     default or a user override. Allow resetting back to default.

   - Add standard device stats for PSP crypto offload.

   - Leverage DSA frame broadcast to implement simple HSR frame
     duplication for a lot of switches without dedicated HSR offload.

   - Add uAPI defines for 1.6Tbps link modes.

  Device drivers:

   - Add Motorcomm YT921x gigabit Ethernet switch support.

   - Add MUCSE driver for N500/N210 1GbE NIC series.

   - Convert drivers to support dedicated ops for timestamping control,
     and away from the direct IOCTL handling. While at it support GET
     operations for PHY timestamping.

   - Add (and convert most drivers to) a dedicated ethtool callback for
     reading the Rx ring count.

     supports Synopsys turn-key MAC IP integrated into a ton of SoCs.

Sven StegemannandJakub Kicinski 52565a9352 net: kcm: Fix race condition in kcm_unattach()
syzbot found a race condition when kcm_unattach(psock)
and kcm_release(kcm) are executed at the same time.

kcm_unattach() is missing a check of the flag
kcm->tx_stopped before calling queue_work().

If the kcm has a reserved psock, kcm_unattach() might get executed
between cancel_work_sync() and unreserve_psock() in kcm_release(),
requeuing kcm->tx_work right before kcm gets freed in kcm_done().

Remove kcm->tx_stopped and replace it by the less
error-prone disable_work_sync().

Michal LuczajandJakub Kicinski 9063de636c kcm: Fix splice support
Flags passed in for splice() syscall should not end up in
skb_recv_datagram(). As SPLICE_F_NONBLOCK == MSG_PEEK, kernel gets
confused: skb isn't unlinked from a receive queue, while strp_msg::offset
and strp_msg::full_len are updated.

Unbreak the logic a bit more by mapping both O_NONBLOCK and
SPLICE_F_NONBLOCK to MSG_DONTWAIT. This way we align with man splice(2) in
regard to errno EAGAIN:

   SPLICE_F_NONBLOCK was specified in flags or one of the file descriptors
   had been marked as nonblocking (O_NONBLOCK), and the operation would
   block.

Kuniyuki IwashimaandJakub Kicinski 807067bf01 kcm: Serialise kcm_sendmsg() for the same socket.
syzkaller reported UAF in kcm_release(). [0]

The scenario is

  1. Thread A builds a skb with MSG_MORE and sets kcm->seq_skb.

  2. Thread A resumes building skb from kcm->seq_skb but is blocked
     by sk_stream_wait_memory()

  3. Thread B calls sendmsg() concurrently, finishes building kcm->seq_skb
     and puts the skb to the write queue

  4. Thread A faces an error and finally frees skb that is already in the
     write queue

  5. kcm_release() does double-free the skb in the write queue

When a thread is building a MSG_MORE skb, another thread must not touch it.

Let's add a per-sk mutex and serialise kcm_sendmsg().

The 'len' variable can't be negative when assigned the result of

To fix the logic, check 'len' as read from 'optlen',

Mina AlmasryandPaolo Abeni 21d2e6737c net: add netmem to skb_frag_t
Use struct netmem* instead of page in skb_frag_t. Currently struct
netmem* is always a struct page underneath, but the abstraction
allows efforts to add support for skb frags not backed by pages.

There is unfortunately 1 instance where the skb_frag_t is assumed to be
a exactly a bio_vec in kcm. For this case, WARN_ON_ONCE and return error
before doing a cast.

Add skb[_frag]_fill_netmem_*() and skb_add_rx_frag_netmem() helpers so
that the API can be used to create netmem skbs.

Kuniyuki IwashimaandPaolo Abeni a22730b1b4 kcm: Fix error handling for SOCK_DGRAM in kcm_sendmsg().
syzkaller found a memory leak in kcm_sendmsg(), and commit c821a88bd7
("kcm: Fix memory leak in error path of kcm_sendmsg()") suppressed it by
updating kcm_tx_msg(head)->last_skb if partial data is copied so that the
following sendmsg() will resume from the skb.

However, we cannot know how many bytes were copied when we get the error.
Thus, we could mess up the MSG_MORE queue.

When kcm_sendmsg() fails for SOCK_DGRAM, we should purge the queue as we
do so for UDP by udp_flush_pending_frames().

Even without this change, when the error occurred, the following sendmsg()
resumed from a wrong skb and the queue was messed up. However, we have
yet to get such a report, and only syzkaller stumbled on it. So, this
can be changed safely.

Note this does not change SOCK_SEQPACKET behaviour.

In kcm_sendmsg(), kcm_tx_msg(head)->last_skb is used as a cursor to append
newly allocated skbs to 'head'. If some bytes are copied, an error occurred,
and jumped to out_error label, 'last_skb' is left unmodified. A later
kcm_sendmsg() will use an obsoleted 'last_skb' reference, corrupting the
'head' frag_list and causing the leak.

This patch fixes this issue by properly updating the last allocated skb in
'last_skb'.

kcm_write_msgs() calls unreserve_psock() to release its hold on the
underlying TCP socket if it has run out of things to transmit, but if we
have nothing in the write queue on entry (e.g. because someone did a

Rewrite the AF_KCM transmission loop to send all the fragments in a single
skb or frag_list-skb in one sendmsg() with MSG_SPLICE_PAGES set. The list
of fragments in each skb is conveniently a bio_vec[] that can just be
attached to a BVEC iter.

Note: I'm working out the size of each fragment-skb by adding up bv_len for
all the bio_vecs in skb->frags[] - but surely this information is recorded
somewhere? For the skbs in head->frag_list, this is equal to
skb->data_len, but not for the head. head->data_len includes all the tail
frags too.
