Altan HacigumusandJakub Kicinski 2b9f6f7065 tcp: make probe0 timer handle expired user timeout
tcp_clamp_probe0_to_user_timeout() computes remaining time in jiffies
using subtraction with an unsigned lvalue.  If elapsed probing time
exceeds the configured TCP_USER_TIMEOUT, the underflow yields a large
value.

This ends up re-arming the probe timer for a full backoff interval
instead of expiring immediately, delaying connection teardown beyond
the configured timeout.

Fix this by preventing underflow so user-set timeout expiration is
handled correctly without extending the probe timer.

Based on specification:
  https://tools.ietf.org/id/draft-ietf-tcpm-accurate-ecn-28.txt

Based on Section 3.1.5 of AccECN spec (RFC9768), a TCP Server in
AccECN mode MUST NOT set ECT on any packet for the rest of the connection,
if it has received or sent at least one valid SYN or Acceptable SYN/ACK
with (AE,CWR,ECE) = (0,0,0) during the handshake.

In addition, a host in AccECN mode that is feeding back the IP-ECN
field on a SYN or SYN/ACK MUST feed back the IP-ECN field on the
latest valid SYN or acceptable SYN/ACK to arrive.

Eric DumazetandJakub Kicinski 08dfe37023 tcp: introduce icsk->icsk_keepalive_timer
sk->sk_timer has been used for TCP keepalives.

Keepalive timers are not in fast path, we want to use sk->sk_timer
storage for retransmit timers, for better cache locality.

Create icsk->icsk_keepalive_timer and change keepalive
code to no longer use sk->sk_timer.

Added space is reclaimed in the following patch.

This includes changes to MPTCP, which was also using sk_timer.

Alias icsk->mptcp_tout_timer and icsk->icsk_keepalive_timer
for inet_sk_diag_fill() sake.

   - Avoid skb_clone() dance in ping_rcv() to improve performance under
     ping flood.

   - Avoid FIB lookup in netfilter if socket is available, 20% perf win.

   - Rework network device creation (in-kernel) API to more clearly
     identify network namespaces and their roles. There are up to 4
     namespace roles but we used to have just 2 netns pointer arguments,
     interpreted differently based on context.

   - Use sysfs_break_active_protection() instead of trylock to avoid
     deadlocks between unregistering objects and sysfs access.

   - Add a new sysctl and sockopt for capping max retransmit timeout in
     TCP.

   - Support masking port and DSCP in routing rule matches.

   - Support dumping IPv4 multicast addresses with RTM_GETMULTICAST.

   - Support specifying at what time packet should be sent on AF_XDP
     sockets.

   - Expose TCP ULP diagnostic info (for TLS and MPTCP) to non-admin
     users.

   - Add Netlink YAML spec for WiFi (nl80211) and conntrack.

Eric DumazetandPaolo Abeni 54a378f434 tcp: add the ability to control max RTO
Currently, TCP stack uses a constant (120 seconds)
to limit the RTO value exponential growth.

Some applications want to set a lower value.

Add TCP_RTO_MAX_MS socket option to set a value (in ms)
between 1 and 120 seconds.

It is discouraged to change the socket rto max on a live
socket, as it might lead to unexpected disconnects.

Following patch is adding a netns sysctl to control the
default value at socket creation time.

delack timer is not stopped from inet_csk_clear_xmit_timer()
because we do not define INET_CSK_CLEAR_TIMERS.

This is a conscious choice : inet_csk_clear_xmit_timer()
is often called from another cpu. Calling del_timer()
would cause false sharing and lock contention.

This means that very often, tcp_delack_timer() is called
at the timer expiration, while there is no ACK to transmit.

This can be detected very early, avoiding the socket spinlock.

Notes:
- test about tp->compressed_ack is racy,
  but in the unlikely case there is a race, the dedicated
  compressed_ack_timer hrtimer would close it.

- Even if the fast path is not taken, reading
  icsk->icsk_ack.pending and tp->compressed_ack
  before acquiring the socket spinlock reduces
  acquisition time and chances of contention.

keeping the timer unchanged. Also inet_csk_clear_xmit_timer()
is often called from another cpu, and calling del_timer()
would cause false sharing and lock contention.

This means that very often, tcp_write_timer() is called
at the timer expiration, while there is nothing to retransmit.

This can be detected very early, avoiding the socket spinlock.

Following patch in the series will add another lockless read.

Add smp_load_acquire() and smp_store_release() annotations
because following patch will add a test in tcp_write_timer(),
and READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() alone would possibly lead to races.

Matthieu Baerts (NGI0)andJakub Kicinski 6982826fe5 mptcp: fallback to TCP after SYN+MPC drops
Some middleboxes might be nasty with MPTCP, and decide to drop packets
with MPTCP options, instead of just dropping the MPTCP options (or
letting them pass...).

In this case, it sounds better to fallback to "plain" TCP after 2
retransmissions, and try again.
