Samuel WuandRafael J. Wysocki 8e2d57e653 PM: sleep: Call pm_sleep_fs_sync() instead of ksys_sync_helper()
Replace the direct calls to ksys_sync_helper() with the new
pm_sleep_fs_sync() in suspend and hibernation code paths.

This enables the new mechanism allowing the filesystem sync phase
to be interrupted.

Rafael J. Wysocki 35e4a69b20 PM: sleep: Allow pm_restrict_gfp_mask() stacking
Allow pm_restrict_gfp_mask() to be called many times in a row to avoid
issues with calling dpm_suspend_start() when the GFP mask has been
already restricted.

Only the first invocation of pm_restrict_gfp_mask() will actually
restrict the GFP mask and the subsequent calls will warn if there is
a mismatch between the expected allowed GFP mask and the actual one.

Moreover, if pm_restrict_gfp_mask() is called many times in a row,
pm_restore_gfp_mask() needs to be called matching number of times in
a row to actually restore the GFP mask.  Calling it when the GFP mask
has not been restricted will cause it to warn.

This is necessary for the GFP mask restriction starting in
hibernation_snapshot() to continue throughout the entire hibernation
flow until it completes or it is aborted (either by a wakeup event or
by an error).

Rafael J. Wysocki 6f4c6f9ed4 PM: hibernate: Restrict GFP mask in power_down()
Commit 12ffc3b151 ("PM: Restrict swap use to later in the
suspend sequence") caused hibernation_platform_enter() to call
pm_restore_gfp_mask() via dpm_resume_end(), so when power_down()
returns after aborting hibernation_platform_enter(), it needs
to match the pm_restore_gfp_mask() call in hibernate() that will
occur subsequently.

Address this by adding a pm_restrict_gfp_mask() call to the relevant
error path in power_down().

Some drivers have different flows for hibernation and suspend. If
the driver opportunistically will skip thaw() then it needs a hint
to know what is happening after the hibernate.

Introduce a new symbol pm_hibernation_mode_is_suspend() that drivers
can call to determine if suspending the system for this purpose.

Hybrid sleep will hibernate the system followed by running through
the suspend routine.  Since both the hibernate and the suspend routine
will call pm_restrict_gfp_mask(), pm_restore_gfp_mask() must be called
before starting the suspend sequence.

Add an explicit call to pm_restore_gfp_mask() to power_down() before
the suspend sequence starts. Add an extra call for pm_restrict_gfp_mask()
when exiting suspend so that the pm_restore_gfp_mask() call in hibernate()
is balanced.

Rafael J. Wysocki 449c9c0253 PM: hibernate: Restrict GFP mask in hibernation_snapshot()
Commit 12ffc3b151 ("PM: Restrict swap use to later in the suspend
sequence") incorrectly removed a pm_restrict_gfp_mask() call from
hibernation_snapshot(), so memory allocations involving swap are not
prevented from being carried out in this code path any more which may
lead to serious breakage.

The symptoms of such breakage have become visible after adding a
shrink_shmem_memory() call to hibernation_snapshot() in commit
2640e81947 ("PM: hibernate: shrink shmem pages after dev_pm_ops.prepare()")
which caused this problem to be much more likely to manifest itself.

However, since commit 2640e81947 was initially present in the DRM
tree that did not include commit 12ffc3b151, the symptoms of this
issue were not visible until merge commit 260f6f4fda ("Merge tag
'drm-next-2025-07-30' of https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/kernel")
that exposed it through an entirely reasonable merge conflict
resolution.

Samuel ZhangandMario Limonciello 2640e81947 PM: hibernate: shrink shmem pages after dev_pm_ops.prepare()
When hibernate with data center dGPUs, huge number of VRAM data will be
moved to shmem during dev_pm_ops.prepare(). These shmem pages take a lot
of system memory so that there's no enough free memory for creating the
hibernation image. This will cause hibernation fail and abort.

After dev_pm_ops.prepare(), call shrink_all_memory() to force move shmem
pages to swap disk and reclaim the pages, so that there's enough system
memory for hibernation image and less pages needed to copy to the image.

This patch can only flush and free about half shmem pages. It will be
better to flush and free more pages, even all of shmem pages, so that
there're less pages to be copied to the hibernation image and the overall
hibernation time can be reduced.

Mario LimoncielloandRafael J. Wysocki 12ffc3b151 PM: Restrict swap use to later in the suspend sequence
Currently swap is restricted before drivers have had a chance to do
their prepare() PM callbacks. Restricting swap this early means that if
a driver needs to evict some content from memory into sawp in it's
prepare callback, it won't be able to.

On AMD dGPUs this can lead to failed suspends under memory pressure
situations as all VRAM must be evicted to system memory or swap.

Move the swap restriction to right after all devices have had a chance
to do the prepare() callback.  If there is any problem with the sequence,
restore swap in the appropriate dpm resume callbacks or error handling
paths.

Pull power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
 "Once again, the changes are dominated by cpufreq updates, but this
  time the majority of them are cpufreq core changes, mostly related to
  the introduction of policy locking guards and __free() usage, and
  fixes related to boost handling.

  Still, there is also a significant update of the intel_pstate driver
  making it register an energy model when running on a hybrid platform
  which is used for enabling energy-aware scheduling (EAS) if the driver
  operates in the passive mode (and schedutil is used as the cpufreq
  governor for all CPUs which is the passive mode default).

  There are some amd-pstate driver updates too, for a good measure,
  including the "Requested CPU Min frequency" BIOS option support and
  new online/offline callbacks.

  In the cpuidle space, the most significant change is the addition of a
  C1 demotion on/off sysfs knob to intel_idle which should help some
  users to configure their systems more precisely. There is also the
  conversion of the PSCI cpuidle driver to a faux device one and there
  are two small updates of cpuidle governors.

  Device power management is also modified quite a bit, especially the
  handling of devices with asynchronous suspend and resume enabled
  during system transitions. They are now going to be handled more
  asynchronously during suspend transitions and somewhat less
  aggressively during resume transitions.

  Apart from the above, the operating performance points (OPP) library
  is now going to use mutex locking guards and scope-based cleanup
  helpers and there is the usual bunch of assorted fixes and code
  cleanups.

Rafael J. Wysocki 1b17d4525b PM: sleep: Print PM debug messages during hibernation
Commit cdb8c100d8 ("include/linux/suspend.h: Only show pm_pr_dbg
messages at suspend/resume") caused PM debug messages to only be
printed during system-wide suspend and resume in progress, but it
forgot about hibernation.

Address this by adding a check for hibernation in progress to
pm_debug_messages_should_print().

Zihuan ZhangandRafael J. Wysocki 50c9bb30dc PM: hibernate: add configurable delay for pm_test
Turn the default 5 second test delay for hibernation into a
configurable module parameter, so users can determine how
long to wait in this pseudo-hibernate state before resuming
the system.

The configurable delay parameter has been added for suspend, so
add an analogous one for hibernation.

Example (wait 30 seconds);

  # echo 30 > /sys/module/hibernate/parameters/pm_test_delay
  # echo core > /sys/power/pm_test

Christian Brauner eacfbf7419 power: freeze filesystems during suspend/resume
Now all the pieces are in place to actually allow the power subsystem
to freeze/thaw filesystems during suspend/resume. Filesystems are only
frozen and thawed if the power subsystem does actually own the freeze.

We could bubble up errors and fail suspend/resume if the error isn't
EBUSY (aka it's already frozen) but I don't think that this is worth it.
Filesystem freezing during suspend/resume is best-effort. If the user
has 500 ext4 filesystems mounted and 4 fail to freeze for whatever
reason then we simply skip them.

What we have now is already a big improvement and let's see how we fare
with it before making our lives even harder (and uglier) than we have
to.

We add a new sysctl know /sys/power/freeze_filesystems that will allow
userspace to freeze filesystems during suspend/hibernate. For now it
defaults to off. The thaw logic doesn't require checking whether
freezing is enabled because the power subsystem exclusively owns frozen
filesystems for the duration of suspend/hibernate and is able to skip
filesystems it doesn't need to freeze.

Also it is technically possible that filesystem
filesystem_freeze_enabled is true and power freezes the filesystems but
before freezing all processes another process disables
filesystem_freeze_enabled. If power were to place the filesystems_thaw()
call under filesystems_freeze_enabled it would fail to thaw the
fileystems it frozw. The exclusive holder mechanism makes it possible to
iterate through the list without any concern making sure that no
filesystems are left frozen.

Lizhi XuandRafael J. Wysocki 52323ed144 PM: hibernate: Avoid deadlock in hibernate_compressor_param_set()
syzbot reported a deadlock in lock_system_sleep() (see below).

The write operation to "/sys/module/hibernate/parameters/compressor"
conflicts with the registration of ieee80211 device, resulting in a deadlock
when attempting to acquire system_transition_mutex under param_lock.

To avoid this deadlock, change hibernate_compressor_param_set() to use
mutex_trylock() for attempting to acquire system_transition_mutex and
return -EBUSY when it fails.

Task flags need not be saved or adjusted before calling
mutex_trylock(&system_transition_mutex) because the caller is not going
to end up waiting for this mutex and if it runs concurrently with system
suspend in progress, it will be frozen properly when it returns to user
space.

Wentao LiangandRafael J. Wysocki e20a70c572 PM: hibernate: Add error handling for syscore_suspend()
In hibernation_platform_enter(), the code did not check the
return value of syscore_suspend(), potentially leading to a
situation where syscore_resume() would be called even if
syscore_suspend() failed. This could cause unpredictable
behavior or system instability.

Modify the code sequence in question to properly handle errors returned
by syscore_suspend(). If an error occurs in the suspend path, the code
now jumps to label 'Enable_irqs' skipping the syscore_resume() call and
only enabling interrupts after setting the system state to SYSTEM_RUNNING.
