Currently the open zone used for garbage collection is a special snow
flake, and it has been a bit annoying for some further zoned XFS work
I've been doing.
Remove the zi_open_gc_field and instead track the open GC zone in the
zi_open_zones list together with the normal open zones, and keep an extra
pointer and a reference of in the GC thread's data structure. This means
anything iterating over open zones just has to look at zi_open_zones, and
the life time rules are consistent. It also helps to add support for
multiple open GC zones if we ever need them, and removes a bit of code.

When running on conventional zones or devices, the zoned allocator does
not have a real write pointer, but instead fakes it up at mount time
based on the last block recorded in the rmap. This can create spurious
"open" zones when the last written blocks in a conventional zone are
invalidated. Add a loop to the mount code to find the conventional zone
with the highest used block in the rmap tree and "finish" it until we
are below the open zones limit.
While we're at it, also error out if there are too many open sequential
zones, which can only happen when the user overrode the max open zones
limit (or with really buggy hardware reducing the limit, but not much
we can do about that).

When xfs_select_zone_nowait() is called with pack_tight equal to true,
the function xfs_select_open_zone_mru() is called if no open zone is
returned by xfs_select_open_zone_lru(), that is, when oz is NULL. The
open zone pointer return of xfs_select_zone_nowait() is then checked,
but this check is outside of the "if (pack_tight)" that trigered the
call to xfs_select_open_zone_mru(). In other word, this check is
unnecessarily done even when pack_tight is false.
Move the check for the return value of the call to

git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Zones in the beginning of the address space are typically mapped to
higer bandwidth tracks on HDDs than those at the end of the address
space. So, in stead of allocating zones "round robin" across the whole
address space, always allocate the zone with the lowest index.
This increases average write bandwidth for overwrite workloads
when less than the full capacity is being used. At ~50% utilization
this improves bandwidth for a random file overwrite benchmark
with 128MiB files and 256MiB zone capacity by 30%.
Running the same benchmark with small 2-8 MiB files at 67% capacity
shows no significant difference in performance. Due to heavy
fragmentation the whole zone range is in use, greatly limiting the
number of free zones with high bw.

Pull writeback updates from Christian Brauner:
"Features:
- Allow file systems to increase the minimum writeback chunk size.
The relatively low minimal writeback size of 4MiB means that
written back inodes on rotational media are switched a lot. Besides
introducing additional seeks, this also can lead to extreme file
fragmentation on zoned devices when a lot of files are cached
relative to the available writeback bandwidth.
This adds a superblock field that allows the file system to
override the default size, and sets it to the zone size for zoned
XFS.
- Add logging for slow writeback when it exceeds
sysctl_hung_task_timeout_secs. This helps identify tasks waiting
for a long time and pinpoint potential issues. Recording the
starting jiffies is also useful when debugging a crashed vmcore.
- Wake up waiting tasks when finishing the writeback of a chunk
Cleanups:
- filemap_* writeback interface cleanups.
Adding filemap_fdatawrite_wbc ended up being a mistake, as all but
the original btrfs caller should be using better high level
interfaces instead.
This series removes all these low-level interfaces, switches btrfs
to a more specific interface, and cleans up other too low-level
interfaces. With this the writeback_control that is passed to the
writeback code is only initialized in three places.
