Christoph HellwigandEric Biggers e9734653c5 fs,fsverity: reject size changes on fsverity files in setattr_prepare
Add the check to reject truncates of fsverity files directly to
setattr_prepare instead of requiring the file system to handle it.
Besides removing boilerplate code, this also fixes the complete lack of
such check in btrfs.

Jeff LaytonandChuck Lever afc5b36e29 vfs: add ATTR_CTIME_SET flag
When ATTR_ATIME_SET and ATTR_MTIME_SET are set in the ia_valid mask, the
notify_change() logic takes that to mean that the request should set
those values explicitly, and not override them with "now".

With the advent of delegated timestamps, similar functionality is needed
for the ctime. Add a ATTR_CTIME_SET flag, and use that to indicate that
the ctime should be accepted as-is. Also, clean up the if statements to
eliminate the extra negatives.

In setattr_copy() and setattr_copy_mgtime() use inode_set_ctime_deleg()
when ATTR_CTIME_SET is set, instead of basing the decision on ATTR_DELEG.

Jeff LaytonandChristian Brauner 7f2c86cba3 fs: handle delegated timestamps in setattr_copy_mgtime
An update to the inode ctime typically requires the latest clock
value possible. The exception to this rule is when there is a nfsd write
delegation and the server is proxying timestamps from the client.

When nfsd gets a CB_GETATTR response, update the timestamp value in the
inode to the values that the client is tracking. The client doesn't send
a ctime value (since that's always determined by the exported
filesystem), but it can send a mtime value. In the case where it does,
update the ctime to a value commensurate with that instead of the
current time.

If ATTR_DELEG is set, then use ia_ctime value instead of setting the
timestamp to the current time.

With the addition of delegated timestamps, the server may receive a
request to update only the atime, which doesn't involve a ctime update.
Trust the ATTR_CTIME flag in the update and only update the ctime when
it's set.

Jeff LaytonandChristian Brauner b82f92d5dd fs: have setattr_copy handle multigrain timestamps appropriately
The setattr codepath is still using coarse-grained timestamps, even on
multigrain filesystems. To fix this, fetch the timestamp for ctime
updates later, at the point where the assignment occurs in setattr_copy.

On a multigrain inode, ignore the ia_ctime in the attrs, and always
update the ctime to the current clock value. Update the atime and mtime
with the same value (if needed) unless they are being set to other
specific values, a'la utimes().

Do not do this universally however, as some filesystems (e.g. most
networked fs) want to do an explicit update elsewhere before updating
the local inode.

Jeff LaytonandChuck Lever 7e8ae8486e fs/nfsd: fix update of inode attrs in CB_GETATTR
Currently, we copy the mtime and ctime to the in-core inode and then
mark the inode dirty. This is fine for certain types of filesystems, but
not all. Some require a real setattr to properly change these values
(e.g. ceph or reexported NFS).

Fix this code to call notify_change() instead, which is the proper way
to effect a setattr. There is one problem though:

In this case, the client is holding a write delegation and has sent us
attributes to update our cache. We don't want to break the delegation
for this since that would defeat the purpose. Add a new ATTR_DELEG flag
that makes notify_change bypass the try_break_deleg call.

 - Promote IMA/EVM to a proper LSM

   This is the bulk of the diffstat, and the source of all the changes
   in the VFS code. Prior to the start of the LSM stacking work it was
   important that IMA/EVM were separate from the rest of the LSMs,
   complete with their own hooks, infrastructure, etc. as it was the
   only way to enable IMA/EVM at the same time as a LSM.

   However, now that the bulk of the LSM infrastructure supports
   multiple simultaneous LSMs, we can simplify things greatly by
   bringing IMA/EVM into the LSM infrastructure as proper LSMs. This is
   something I've wanted to see happen for quite some time and Roberto
   was kind enough to put in the work to make it happen.

 - Use the LSM hook default values to simplify the call_int_hook() macro

   Previously the call_int_hook() macro required callers to supply a
   default return value, despite a default value being specified when
   the LSM hook was defined.

   This simplifies the macro by using the defined default return value
   which makes life easier for callers and should also reduce the number
   of return value bugs in the future (we've had a few pop up recently,
   hence this work).

 - Use the KMEM_CACHE() macro instead of kmem_cache_create()

   The guidance appears to be to use the KMEM_CACHE() macro when
   possible and there is no reason why we can't use the macro, so let's
   use it.

 - Fix a number of comment typos in the LSM hook comment blocks

   Not much to say here, we fixed some questionable grammar decisions in
   the LSM hook comment blocks.

Roberto SassuandPaul Moore 9238311176 evm: Move to LSM infrastructure
As for IMA, move hardcoded EVM function calls from various places in the
kernel to the LSM infrastructure, by introducing a new LSM named 'evm'
(last and always enabled like 'ima'). The order in the Makefile ensures
that 'evm' hooks are executed after 'ima' ones.

Make EVM functions as static (except for evm_inode_init_security(), which
is exported), and register them as hook implementations in init_evm_lsm().
Also move the inline functions evm_inode_remove_acl(),
evm_inode_post_remove_acl(), and evm_inode_post_set_acl() from the public
evm.h header to evm_main.c.

Unlike before (see commit to move IMA to the LSM infrastructure),
evm_inode_post_setattr(), evm_inode_post_set_acl(),
evm_inode_post_remove_acl(), and evm_inode_post_removexattr() are not
executed for private inodes.

Finally, add the LSM_ID_EVM case in lsm_list_modules_test.c

Roberto SassuandPaul Moore 84594c9ecd ima: Move IMA-Appraisal to LSM infrastructure
A few additional IMA hooks are needed to reset the cached appraisal
status, causing the file's integrity to be re-evaluated on next access.
Register these IMA-appraisal only functions separately from the rest of IMA
functions, as appraisal is a separate feature not necessarily enabled in
the kernel configuration.

Reuse the same approach as for other IMA functions, move hardcoded calls
from various places in the kernel to the LSM infrastructure. Declare the
functions as static and register them as hook implementations in
init_ima_appraise_lsm(), called by init_ima_lsm().

Also move the inline function ima_inode_remove_acl() from the public ima.h
header to ima_appraise.c.

Roberto SassuandPaul Moore 77fa6f314f security: Introduce inode_post_setattr hook
In preparation for moving IMA and EVM to the LSM infrastructure, introduce
the inode_post_setattr hook.

At inode_setattr hook, EVM verifies the file's existing HMAC value. At
inode_post_setattr, EVM re-calculates the file's HMAC based on the modified
file attributes and other file metadata.

Other LSMs could similarly take some action after successful file attribute
change.

The new hook cannot return an error and cannot cause the operation to be
reverted.

Christian Brauner 5d1f903f75 attr: block mode changes of symlinks
Changing the mode of symlinks is meaningless as the vfs doesn't take the
mode of a symlink into account during path lookup permission checking.

However, the vfs doesn't block mode changes on symlinks. This however,
has lead to an untenable mess roughly classifiable into the following
two categories:

(1) Filesystems that don't implement a i_op->setattr() for symlinks.

    Such filesystems may or may not know that without i_op->setattr()
    defined, notify_change() falls back to simple_setattr() causing the
    inode's mode in the inode cache to be changed.

    That's a generic issue as this will affect all non-size changing
    inode attributes including ownership changes.

    Example: afs

(2) Filesystems that fail with EOPNOTSUPP but change the mode of the
    symlink nonetheless.

    Some filesystems will happily update the mode of a symlink but still
    return EOPNOTSUPP. This is the biggest source of confusion for
    userspace.

    The EOPNOTSUPP in this case comes from POSIX ACLs. Specifically it
    comes from filesystems that call posix_acl_chmod(), e.g., btrfs via

        if (!err && attr->ia_valid & ATTR_MODE)
                err = posix_acl_chmod(idmap, dentry, inode->i_mode);

    Filesystems including btrfs don't implement i_op->set_acl() so
    posix_acl_chmod() will report EOPNOTSUPP.

    When posix_acl_chmod() is called, most filesystems will have
    finished updating the inode.

    Perversely, this has the consequences that this behavior may depend
    on two kconfig options and mount options:

    * CONFIG_POSIX_ACL={y,n}
    * CONFIG_${FSTYPE}_POSIX_ACL={y,n}
    * Opt_acl, Opt_noacl

    Example: btrfs, ext4, xfs

The only way to change the mode on a symlink currently involves abusing
an O_PATH file descriptor in the following manner:

        fd = openat(-1, "/path/to/link", O_CLOEXEC | O_PATH | O_NOFOLLOW);

        char path[PATH_MAX];
        snprintf(path, sizeof(path), "/proc/self/fd/%d", fd);
        chmod(path, 0000);

But for most major filesystems with POSIX ACL support such as btrfs,
ext4, ceph, tmpfs, xfs and others this will fail with EOPNOTSUPP with
the mode still updated due to the aforementioned posix_acl_chmod()
nonsense.

So, given that for all major filesystems this would fail with EOPNOTSUPP
and that both glibc (cf. [1]) and musl (cf. [2]) outright block mode
changes on symlinks we should just try and block mode changes on
symlinks directly in the vfs and have a clean break with this nonsense.

If this causes any regressions, we do the next best thing and fix up all
filesystems that do return EOPNOTSUPP with the mode updated to not call
posix_acl_chmod() on symlinks.

But as usual, let's try the clean cut solution first. It's a simple
patch that can be easily reverted. Not marking this for backport as I'll
do that manually if we're reasonably sure that this works and there are
no strong objections.

We could block this in chmod_common() but it's more appropriate to do it
notify_change() as it will also mean that we catch filesystems that
change symlink permissions explicitly or accidently.

Similar proposals were floated in the past as in [3] and [4] and again
recently in [5]. There's also a couple of bugs about this inconsistency
as in [6] and [7].

Christian Brauner 4f704d9a83 nfs: use vfs setgid helper
We've aligned setgid behavior over multiple kernel releases. The details
can be found in the following two merge messages:
cf619f8919 ("Merge tag 'fs.ovl.setgid.v6.2')
426b4ca2d6 ("Merge tag 'fs.setgid.v6.0')
Consistent setgid stripping behavior is now encapsulated in the
setattr_should_drop_sgid() helper which is used by all filesystems that
strip setgid bits outside of vfs proper. Switch nfs to rely on this
helper as well. Without this patch the setgid stripping tests in
xfstests will fail.

Pull vfs idmapping updates from Christian Brauner:

 - Last cycle we introduced the dedicated struct mnt_idmap type for
   mount idmapping and the required infrastucture in 256c8aed2b ("fs:
   introduce dedicated idmap type for mounts"). As promised in last
   cycle's pull request message this converts everything to rely on
   struct mnt_idmap.

   Currently we still pass around the plain namespace that was attached
   to a mount. This is in general pretty convenient but it makes it easy
   to conflate namespaces that are relevant on the filesystem with
   namespaces that are relevant on the mount level. Especially for
   non-vfs developers without detailed knowledge in this area this was a
   potential source for bugs.

   This finishes the conversion. Instead of passing the plain namespace
   around this updates all places that currently take a pointer to a
   mnt_userns with a pointer to struct mnt_idmap.

   Now that the conversion is done all helpers down to the really
   low-level helpers only accept a struct mnt_idmap argument instead of
   two namespace arguments.

   Conflating mount and other idmappings will now cause the compiler to
   complain loudly thus eliminating the possibility of any bugs. This
   makes it impossible for filesystem developers to mix up mount and
   filesystem idmappings as they are two distinct types and require
   distinct helpers that cannot be used interchangeably.

   Everything associated with struct mnt_idmap is moved into a single
   separate file. With that change no code can poke around in struct
   mnt_idmap. It can only be interacted with through dedicated helpers.
   That means all filesystems are and all of the vfs is completely
   oblivious to the actual implementation of idmappings.

   We are now also able to extend struct mnt_idmap as we see fit. For
   example, we can decouple it completely from namespaces for users that
   don't require or don't want to use them at all. We can also extend
   the concept of idmappings so we can cover filesystem specific
   requirements.

   In combination with the vfs{g,u}id_t work we finished in v6.2 this
   makes this feature substantially more robust and thus difficult to
   implement wrong by a given filesystem and also protects the vfs.

 - Enable idmapped mounts for tmpfs and fulfill a longstanding request.

   A long-standing request from users had been to make it possible to
   create idmapped mounts for tmpfs. For example, to share the host's
   tmpfs mount between multiple sandboxes. This is a prerequisite for
   some advanced Kubernetes cases. Systemd also has a range of use-cases
   to increase service isolation. And there are more users of this.

   However, with all of the other work going on this was way down on the
   priority list but luckily someone other than ourselves picked this
   up.

   As usual the patch is tiny as all the infrastructure work had been
   done multiple kernel releases ago. In addition to all the tests that
   we already have I requested that Rodrigo add a dedicated tmpfs
   testsuite for idmapped mounts to xfstests. It is to be included into
   xfstests during the v6.3 development cycle. This should add a slew of
   additional tests.
