This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

On Koelsch (R-Car M2-W), during boot and s2ram:
phy phy-e6590100.usb-phy-controller.0: Runtime PM usage count underflow!
While phy_pm_runtime_get{,_sync}() and phy_pm_runtime_put_sync() still
contain pm_runtime_enabled() checks, the same check in
phy_pm_runtime_put() was deemed redundant and removed, causing count
underflows with PHY drivers like drivers/phy/renesas/phy-rcar-gen2.c
that do not use Runtime PM yet,
Fix this by reinstating the check.

The PHY core defines phy_pm_runtime_put() to return an int, but that
return value is never used. It also passes the return value of
pm_runtime_put() to the caller which is not very useful.
Returning an error code from pm_runtime_put() merely means that it has
not queued up a work item to check whether or not the device can be
suspended and there are many perfectly valid situations in which that
can happen, like after writing "on" to the devices' runtime PM "control"
attribute in sysfs for one example.
Modify phy_pm_runtime_put() to discard the pm_runtime_put() return
value and change its return type to void. Also drop the redundant
pm_runtime_enabled() call from there.
No intentional functional impact.
This will facilitate a planned change of the pm_runtime_put() return
type to void in the future.

Add a new phy_notify_state() api that notifies and configures a phy for a
given state transition.
This is intended to be used by phy drivers which need to do some runtime
configuration of parameters that can't be handled by phy_calibrate() or
phy_power_{on|off}().
The first usage of this API is in the Samsung UFS phy that needs to issue
some register writes when entering and exiting the hibernate link state.

If the PHY driver uses another PHY internally (e.g. in case of eUSB2,
repeaters are represented as PHYs), then it would trigger the following
lockdep splat because all PHYs use a single static lockdep key and thus
lockdep can not identify whether there is a dependency or not and
reports a false positive.
Make PHY subsystem use dynamic lockdep keys, assigning each driver a
separate key. This way lockdep can correctly identify dependency graph
between mutexes.

For macro for_each_child_of_node(parent, child), refcount of @child has
been increased before entering its loop body, so normally needs to call
of_node_put(@child) before returning from the loop body to avoid refcount
leakage.
of_phy_provider_lookup() has such usage but does not call of_node_put()
before returning, so cause leakage of the OF node refcount.
Fix by simply calling of_node_put() before returning from the loop body.
The APIs affected by this issue are shown below since they indirectly
invoke problematic of_phy_provider_lookup().

For devm_phy_destroy(), its comment says it needs to invoke phy_destroy()
to destroy the phy, but it will not actually invoke the function since
devres_destroy() does not call devm_phy_consume(), and the missing
phy_destroy() call will cause that the phy fails to be destroyed.
Fortunately, the faulty API has not been used by current kernel tree.
Fix by using devres_release() instead of devres_destroy() within the API.

release the phy, but it will not actually invoke the function since
devres_destroy() does not call devm_phy_release(), and the missing

- The phy fails to be released.
- devm_phy_put() can not fully undo what API devm_phy_get() does.
- Leak refcount of both the module and device for below typical usage:
