Stephen BoydandRob Herring (Arm) 332857fdac of: Allow overlay kunit tests to run CONFIG_OF_OVERLAY=n
Some configurations want to enable CONFIG_KUNIT without enabling
CONFIG_OF_OVERLAY. The kunit overlay code already skips if
CONFIG_OF_OVERLAY isn't enabled, so this select here isn't really doing
anything besides making it easier to run the tests without them
skipping. Remove the select and move the config setting to the
drivers/of/.kunitconfig file so that the overlay tests can be run with
or without CONFIG_OF_OVERLAY set to test either behavior.

Masahiro Yamada 654102df2a kbuild: add generic support for built-in boot DTBs
Some architectures embed boot DTBs in vmlinux. A potential issue for
these architectures is a race condition during parallel builds because
Kbuild descends into arch/*/boot/dts/ twice.

One build thread is initiated by the 'dtbs' target, which is a
prerequisite of the 'all' target in the top-level Makefile:

  ifdef CONFIG_OF_EARLY_FLATTREE
  all: dtbs
  endif

For architectures that support the built-in boot dtb, arch/*/boot/dts/
is visited also during the ordinary directory traversal in order to
build obj-y objects that wrap DTBs.

Since these build threads are unaware of each other, they can run
simultaneously during parallel builds.

This commit introduces a generic build rule to scripts/Makefile.vmlinux
to support embedded boot DTBs in a race-free way. Architectures that
want to use this rule need to select CONFIG_GENERIC_BUILTIN_DTB.

After the migration, Makefiles under arch/*/boot/dts/ will be visited
only once to build only *.dtb files.

This change also aims to unify the CONFIG options used for built-in DTBs
support. Currently, different architectures use different CONFIG options
for the same purposes.

With this commit, the CONFIG options will be unified as follows:

 - CONFIG_GENERIC_BUILTIN_DTB

   This enables the generic rule for built-in boot DTBs. This will be
   renamed to CONFIG_BUILTIN_DTB after all architectures migrate to the
   generic rule.

 - CONFIG_BUILTIN_DTB_NAME

   This specifies the path to the embedded DTB.
   (relative to arch/*/boot/dts/)

 - CONFIG_BUILTIN_DTB_ALL

   If this is enabled, all DTB files compiled under arch/*/boot/dts/ are
   embedded into vmlinux. Only used by MIPS.

Add a KUnit test that confirms a DTB has been loaded, i.e. there is a
root node, and that the of_have_populated_dt() API works properly. We
skip the test when CONFIG_OF_EARLY_FLATREE=n because in that case we
know architecture code hasn't called unflatten_(and_copy_)?device_tree()

Frank RowandandRob Herring 7b937cc243 of: Create of_root if no dtb provided by firmware
When enabling CONFIG_OF on a platform where 'of_root' is not populated
by firmware, we end up without a root node. In order to apply overlays
and create subnodes of the root node, we need one. Create this root node
by unflattening an empty builtin dtb.

If firmware provides a flattened device tree (FDT) then the FDT is
unflattened via setup_arch(). Otherwise, the call to
unflatten(_and_copy)?_device_tree() will create an empty root node.

We make of_have_populated_dt() return true only if the DTB was loaded by
firmware so that existing callers don't change behavior after this
patch. The call in the of platform code is removed because it prevents
overlays from creating platform devices when the empty root node is
used.

as not populated. Drop setup_of() initcall]

Baoquan HeandRob Herring 7e08baf6a8 of: make OF_EARLY_FLATTREE depend on HAS_IOMEM
On s390 systems (aka mainframes), it has classic channel devices for
networking and permanent storage that are currently even more common
than PCI devices. Hence it could have a fully functional s390 kernel
with CONFIG_PCI=n, then the relevant iomem mapping functions
[including ioremap(), devm_ioremap(), etc.] are not available.

In LKP error report at below on s390:
------
ld: kernel/dma/coherent.o: in function `dma_init_coherent_memory':

ld: coherent.c:(.text+0x226): undefined reference to `memunmap'

ld: kernel/dma/coherent.o: in function `dma_release_coherent_memory':

------

In the config file, several Kconfig options are:
------
'# CONFIG_PCI is not set'
CONFIG_OF_EARLY_FLATTREE=y
CONFIG_DMA_DECLARE_COHERENT=y
------

So, enabling OF_EARLY_FLATTREE will select DMA_DECLARE_COHERENT
and cause above building errors even though they are not needed
because CONFIG_PCI is disabled.

Here let OF_EARLY_FLATTREE depend on HAS_IOMEM so that it won't
be built to cause compiling error if PCI is unset.

Reserved memory regions can be used for more than just DMA regions, so
only enabling on DMA_DECLARE_COHERENT (via HAS_DMA) or DMA_CMA is wrong.
This effectively doesn't matter except for the few cases arches select
NO_DMA.

At least, these users of RESERVEDMEM_OF_DECLARE depend on reserved memory
support:

arch/riscv/mm/init.c:RESERVEDMEM_OF_DECLARE(elfcorehdr, "linux,elfcorehdr", elfcore_hdr_setup);
drivers/memory/tegra/tegra210-emc-table.c:RESERVEDMEM_OF_DECLARE(tegra210_emc_table, "nvidia,tegra210-emc-table",

drivers/soc/fsl/qbman/qman_ccsr.c:RESERVEDMEM_OF_DECLARE(qman_pfdr, "fsl,qman-pfdr", qman_pfdr);

Michael EllermanandRob Herring dabf6b36b8 of: Add OF_DMA_DEFAULT_COHERENT & select it on powerpc
There's an OF helper called of_dma_is_coherent(), which checks if a
device has a "dma-coherent" property to see if the device is coherent
for DMA.

But on some platforms devices are coherent by default, and on some
platforms it's not possible to update existing device trees to add the
"dma-coherent" property.

So add a Kconfig symbol to allow arch code to tell
of_dma_is_coherent() that devices are coherent by default, regardless
of the presence of the property.

Select that symbol on powerpc when NOT_COHERENT_CACHE is not set, ie.
when the system has a coherent cache.

Frank RowandandFrank Rowand 39a751a4cb of: change overlay apply input data from unflattened to FDT
Move duplicating and unflattening of an overlay flattened devicetree
(FDT) into the overlay application code. To accomplish this,
of_overlay_apply() is replaced by of_overlay_fdt_apply().

The copy of the FDT (aka "duplicate FDT") now belongs to devicetree
code, which is thus responsible for freeing the duplicate FDT. The
caller of of_overlay_fdt_apply() remains responsible for freeing the
original FDT.

The unflattened devicetree now belongs to devicetree code, which is
thus responsible for freeing the unflattened devicetree.

These ownership changes prevent early freeing of the duplicated FDT
or the unflattened devicetree, which could result in use after free
errors.

of_overlay_fdt_apply() is a private function for the anticipated
overlay loader.

Update unittest.c to use of_overlay_fdt_apply() instead of
of_overlay_apply().

Move overlay fragments from artificial locations in
drivers/of/unittest-data/tests-overlay.dtsi into one devicetree
source file per overlay. This led to changes in
drivers/of/unitest-data/Makefile and drivers/of/unitest.c.

  - Add overlay directives to the overlay devicetree source files so
    that dtc will compile them as true overlays into one FDT data
    chunk per overlay.

  - Set CFLAGS for drivers/of/unittest-data/testcases.dts so that
    symbols will be generated for overlay resolution of overlays
    that are no longer artificially contained in testcases.dts

  - Unflatten and apply each unittest overlay FDT using
    of_overlay_fdt_apply().

  - Enable the of_resolve_phandles() check for whether the unflattened
    overlay is detached. This check was previously disabled because the
    overlays from tests-overlay.dtsi were not unflattened into detached
    trees.

  - Other changes to unittest.c infrastructure to manage multiple test
    FDTs built into the kernel image (access by name instead of
    arbitrary number).

  - of_unittest_overlay_high_level(): previously unused code to add
    properties from the overlay_base devicetree to the live tree
    was triggered by the restructuring of tests-overlay.dtsi and thus
    testcases.dts. This exposed two bugs: (1) the need to dup a
    property before adding it, and (2) property 'name' is
    auto-generated in the unflatten code and thus will be a duplicate
    in the __symbols__ node - do not treat this duplicate as an error.

nand_base.c") removed the drivers/of/of_mtd.c file but did not remove
the associated OF_MTD Kconfig option.

Arnd BergmannandDavid S. Miller a5e4bd9913 of_mdio: select fixed phy support unconditionally
Calling the fixed-phy functions when CONFIG_FIXED_PHY=m as a previous
change tried cannot work if the caller is in built-in code:

drivers/of/built-in.o: In function `of_phy_register_fixed_link':
of_reserved_mem.c:(.text+0x85e0): undefined reference to `fixed_phy_register'

Making of_mdio depend on 'FIXED_PHY || !FIXED_PHY' would solve this
dependency by enforcing that OF_MDIO itself becomes a loadable module
when FIXED_PHY=y, but that creates a different dependency as it
breaks any built-in ethernet driver that uses of_mdio.

Making FIXED_PHY a bool option also cannot work, since it depends on
PHYLIB, which again is tristate.

This version now uses 'select FIXED_PHY' to ensure that the fixed-phy
portion of of_mdio is not optional. The main downside of this is
a small increase in code size for cases that do not need fixed phy
support, but it should avoid all of the link-time problems.

Rob Herring 1b7c501b51 of: add config option to enable building of all dtbs
Enable building all dtb files when CONFIG_OF_ALL_DTBS is enabled. The dtbs
are not really dependent on a platform being enabled or any other kernel
config, so for testing coverage it is convenient to build all of the dtbs.

In order to only build dtbs, this option can be used by creating an
allno.config file containing:
CONFIG_COMPILE_TEST=y
CONFIG_OF=y
CONFIG_OF_ALL_DTBS=y

And then running:
make KCONFIG_ALLCONFIG=1 allnoconfig
make dtbs

While building the dtbs themselves don't need a cross compiler, the
scripts dependency does need one. This can be hacked around by
commenting out "subdir-y += mod" in scripts/Makefile.
