After device_initialize(), the lifetime of the embedded struct device
is expected to be managed through the device core reference counting.
In counter_alloc(), if dev_set_name() fails after device_initialize(),
the error path removes the chrdev, frees the ID, and frees the backing
allocation directly instead of releasing the device reference with
put_device(). This bypasses the normal device lifetime rules and may
leave the reference count of the embedded struct device unbalanced,
resulting in a refcount leak.
The issue was identified by a static analysis tool I developed and
confirmed by manual review.
Fix this by using put_device() in the dev_set_name() failure path and
let counter_device_release() handle the final cleanup.

The counter driver can use HW channels 1 and 2, while the PWM driver can
use HW channels 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7.
The dev member is assigned both by the counter driver and the PWM driver
for channels 1 and 2, to their own struct device instance, overwriting
the previous value.
The sub-drivers race to assign their own struct device pointer to the
same struct rz_mtu3_channel's dev member.
The dev member of struct rz_mtu3_channel is used by the counter
sub-driver for runtime PM.
Depending on the probe order of the counter and PWM sub-drivers, the
dev member may point to the wrong struct device instance, causing the
counter sub-driver to do runtime PM actions on the wrong device.
To fix this, use the parent pointer of the counter, which is assigned
during probe to the correct struct device, not the struct device pointer
inside the shared struct rz_mtu3_channel.

Runtime PM counter is incremented / decremented each time the sysfs
enable file is written to.
If user writes 0 to the sysfs enable file multiple times, runtime PM
usage count underflows, generating the following message.
rz-mtu3-counter rz-mtu3-counter.0: Runtime PM usage count underflow!
At the same time, hardware registers end up being accessed with clocks
off in rz_mtu3_terminate_counter() to disable an already disabled
channel.
If user writes 1 to the sysfs enable file multiple times, runtime PM
usage count will be incremented each time, requiring the same number of
0 writes to get it back to 0.
If user writes 0 to the sysfs enable file while PWM is in progress, PWM
is stopped without counter being the owner of the underlying MTU3
channel.
Check against the cached count_is_enabled value and exit if the user
is trying to set the same enable value.

sysfs attribute creation for counter extensions has been consolidated
into a single function, counter_sysfs_exts_add().
Inside counter_sysfs_attr_add(), although the code was changed to return
the result of counter_sysfs_exts_add(), an unreachable return 0;
statement was left at the end of the function.
Remove it.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

quad8_irq_handler() should return irqreturn_t enum values, but it
directly returns negative errno codes from regmap operations on error.
Return IRQ_NONE if the interrupt status cannot be read. If clearing the
interrupt fails, return IRQ_HANDLED to prevent the kernel from disabling
the IRQ line due to a spurious interrupt storm. Also, log these regmap
failures with dev_WARN_ONCE.

Mark the interrupt as IRQF_SHARED to permit multiple counter channels to
share the same TCB IRQ line.
Each Timer/Counter Block (TCB) instance shares a single IRQ line among its
three internal channels. When multiple counter channels (e.g., counter@0
and counter@1) within the same TCB are enabled, the second call to
devm_request_irq() fails because the IRQ line is already requested by the
first channel.

There is no need to register a manual `devm` action for
`pm_runtime_disable()` when `devm_pm_runtime_enable()` exists. It does
the same thing (but also calls `pm_runtime_dont_use_autosuspend()`,
which should be fine here).
Moreover, when `devm_add_action_or_reset()` fails, it is due to a failed
memory allocation and will thus return `-ENOMEM`. `dev_err_probe()`
doesn't do anything when error is `-ENOMEM`. Therefore, the call to
`dev_err_probe()` is useless. Note that `devm_pm_runtime_enable()` has a
tail call to `devm_add_action_or_reset()` and thus returns that value.
Therefore, replace `dev_err_probe()` with the returning value.

In Capture mode, the RC register serves as a compare register for the
Timer Counter Channel. When a the Counter Value reaches the RC value, a
RC Compare event occurs (COUNTER_EVENT_THRESHOLD). This patch exposes
the RC register to userspace as the 'compare' Count extension, thus
allowing users to configure the threshold condition for these events.

In case the stm32_lptim_set_enable_state() fails to update CMP and ARR,
a timeout error is raised, by regmap_read_poll_timeout. It may happen,
when the lptimer runs on a slow clock, and the clock is gated only
few times during the polling.
Badly, when this happen, STM32_LPTIM_ENABLE in CR register has been set.
So the 'enable' state in sysfs wrongly lies on the counter being
correctly enabled, due to CR is read as one in stm32_lptim_is_enabled().
To fix both issues:
- enable the clock before writing CMP, ARR and polling ISR bits. It will
avoid the possible timeout error.
- clear the ENABLE bit in CR and disable the clock in the error path.
