Using the IS_ENABLED() macro in the int340x_thermal_handler_attach()
forces the kernel to be recompiled when thermal drivers are enabled
or disabled, which is a significant limitation of its modularity.
The IS_ENABLED() macro is particularly problematic for the Android
Generic Kernel Image (GKI) project which uses unified core kernel
while SoC/board support is moved to loadable vendor modules.
The Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (DPTF) requires
thermal drivers to be loaded at runtime, thus ACPI bus scan handler
is not needed and acpi_default_enumeration() may create all platform
devices, regardless of the actual setting of CONFIG_INT340X_THERMAL.

This way DMI based quirk matching and quirk flag initialization can be done
just once - in the newly introduced acpi_power_resources_init() function,
which is similar to existing acpi_*_init() functions.
Convert the single already existing DMI match-based quirk in this ACPI
power resource handler ("leave unused power resources on" quirk) to such
one-time initialization in acpi_power_resources_init() function instead of
re-running that DMI match each time acpi_turn_off_unused_power_resources()
gets called.

Make acpi_processor_driver_init() call arch_cpu_rescan_dead_smt_siblings(),
via a new wrapper function called acpi_idle_rescan_dead_smt_siblings(),
after successfully initializing the driver, to allow the "dead" SMT
siblings to go into deep idle states, which is necessary for the
processor to be able to reach deep package C-states (like PC10) going
forward, so that power can be reduced sufficiently in suspend-to-idle,
among other things.
However, do it only if the ACPI idle driver is the current cpuidle
driver (otherwise it is assumed that another cpuidle driver will take
care of this) and avoid doing it on architectures other than x86.

The embedded controller code is mainly used on x86 laptops and cannot
work without PC style I/O port access.
Make this a user-visible configuration option that is default enabled
on x86 but otherwise disabled, and that can never be enabled unless
CONFIG_HAS_IOPORT is also available.
The empty stubs in internal.h help ignore the EC code in configurations
that don't support it. In order to see those stubs, the sbshc code also
has to include this header and drop duplicate declarations.
All the direct callers of ec_read/ec_write already had an x86
dependency and now also need to depend on APCI_EC.

Merge an ACPI EC driver update, ACPI sysfs interface updates, an ACPI
library function update, and an ACPI APD driver update for 6.12-rc1:
- Do not release locks during operation region accesses in the ACPI EC
driver (Rafael Wysocki).
- Fix up the _STR handling in the ACPI device object sysfs interface,
make it represent the device object attributes as an attribute group
and make it rely on driver core functionality for sysfs attrubute
management (Thomas Weißschuh).
- Extend error messages printed to the kernel log when acpi_evaluate_dsm()
fails to include revision and function number (David Wang).

SoCs (Shyam Sundar S K).

Commit 60fa6ae6e6 ("ACPI: EC: Install address space handler at the
namespace root") caused _REG methods for EC operation regions outside
the EC device scope to be evaluated which on some systems leads to the
evaluation of _REG methods in the scopes of device objects representing
devices that are not present and not functional according to the _STA
return values. Some of those device objects represent EC "alternatives"
and if _REG is evaluated for their operation regions, the platform
firmware may be confused and the platform may start to behave
incorrectly.
To avoid this problem, only evaluate _REG for EC operation regions
located in the scopes of device objects representing known-to-be-present
devices.
For this purpose, partially revert commit 60fa6ae6e6 and trigger the
evaluation of _REG for EC operation regions from acpi_bus_attach() for
the known-valid devices.

Dell laptops with IPU6 camera (the Tiger Lake, Alder Lake and Raptor
Lake generations) have broken ACPI MIPI DISCO information (this results
from an OEM attempt to make Linux work by supplying it with custom data
in the ACPI tables which has never been supported in the mainline).
Instead of adding a lot of DMI quirks for this, check for Dell platforms
based on the processor generations in question and drop the ACPI graph
port nodes, likely to be created with the help of invalid data, on all
of them.

It is reported that _DSM evaluation fails in ucsi_acpi_dsm() on Lenovo
IdeaPad Pro 5 due to a missing address space handler for the EC address
space:
ACPI Error: No handler for Region [ECSI] (000000007b8176ee) [EmbeddedControl] (20230628/evregion-130)
This happens because if there is no ECDT, the EC driver only registers
the EC address space handler for operation regions defined in the EC
device scope of the ACPI namespace while the operation region being
accessed by the _DSM in question is located beyond that scope.
To address this, modify the ACPI EC driver to install the EC address
space handler at the root of the ACPI namespace for the first EC that
can be found regardless of whether or not an ECDT is present.
Note that this change is consistent with some examples in the ACPI
specification in which EC operation regions located outside the EC
device scope are used (for example, see Section 9.17.15 in ACPI 6.5),
so the current behavior of the EC driver is arguably questionable.

Current implementation of processor_thermal performs software throttling
in fixed steps of "20%" which can be too coarse for some platforms.
We observed some performance gain after reducing the throttle percentage.
Change the CPUFREQ thermal reduction percentage and maximum thermal steps
to be configurable. Also, update the default values of both for Nvidia
Tegra241 (Grace) SoC. The thermal reduction percentage is reduced to "5%"
and accordingly the maximum number of thermal steps are increased as they
are derived from the reduction percentage.

Modify the ACPI thermal driver to use functions from the ACPI thermal
library to obtain trip point temperature values instead of duplicating
them locally.
Among other things, this requires the functions in question to be
exported to it, because it can be built as a module.
It effectively changes the behavior of the driver to treat temperature
values out of the reasonable range (-55 centigrade to 175 centigrade) as
invalid, but there is no other expected functional impact.

Also make it run acpi_processor_osc() for every processor object or

was to work around platform firmware defects on Skylake systems).
Introduce a new function called acpi_early_processor_control_setup() that

processor support information to the platform firmware and if that fails,
it will fall back to using _PDC.
