Rafael J. Wysocki e4865a56d0 ACPI: driver: Check ACPI_COMPANION() against NULL during probe
Since every platform driver can be forced to match a device that doesn't
match its list of device IDs because of device_match_driver_override(),
platform drivers that rely on the existence of a device's ACPI companion
object should verify its presence.

Accordingly, add requisite ACPI_COMPANION() or ACPI_HANDLE() checks
against NULL to 13 platform drivers handling core ACPI devices.

Also change the value returned by the ACPI thermal zone driver when
the device's ACPI companion is not present to -ENODEV for consistency
with the other drivers.

Rafael J. Wysocki 236ad35816 ACPI: AC: Define ACPI_AC_CLASS in one place
The ACPI_AC_CLASS symbol is defined in several places in the same way
which is rather unfortunate.

Instead, define it in one common header file (acpi_bus.h) so that it is
accessible to all of its users.

Rafael J. Wysocki e18947038b ACPI: driver: Do not set acpi_device_class() unnecessarily
Several core ACPI device drivers set acpi_device_class() for the given
struct acpi_device to whatever they like, but that value is never used
unless the driver itself uses it and, sadly, they neglect to clear it on
remove.  Since the only one of them still using acpi_device_class()
after previous changes is the button driver, update the others to stop
setting it in vain.  Also drop the related device class sybmols that
become redundant.

Since the ACPI button driver continues to use acpi_device_class(), make
it clear the struct field represented by acpi_device_class() in its
remove callback.

No intentional functional impact.

Rafael J. Wysocki 76866c912a ACPI: driver: Avoid using pnp.device_class for netlink handling
Update several core ACPI device drivers that use
acpi_bus_generate_netlink_event() for generating netlink messages to
pass a string literal as its first argument instead of a pointer to
pnp.device_class in a given struct acpi_device, which will allow them
to avoid initializing the pnp.device_class field in the future.

The ACPI button driver that uses different acpi_device_class()
values for different button types will still pass it to
acpi_bus_generate_netlink_event(), but update it to use the
acpi_device_class() macro instead of open coding the pointer
access path.

No intentional functional impact.

Rafael J. Wysocki 69652f32c9 ACPI: event: Redefine acpi_notifier_call_chain()
Notice that acpi_notifier_call_chain() only uses its device argument
to retrieve the pnp.device_class and pnp.bus_id values from there, so
it can be redefined to take pointers to those two strings as parameters
istead of a struct acpi_device pointer.

That allows all of its callers to pass a string literal as its first
argument, so they won't need to initialize pnp.device_class in
struct acpi_device objects operated by them any more, and its
signature becomes more similar to acpi_bus_generate_netlink_event()
then.

Update the code as per the above.

Rafael J. Wysocki 97892d5f06 ACPI: driver: Do not set acpi_device_name() unnecessarily
ACPI drivers usually set acpi_device_name() for the given struct
acpi_device to whatever they like, but that value is never used unless
the driver itself uses it and, quite unfortunately, drivers neglect to
clear it on remove.  Some drivers use it for printing messages or
initializing the names of subordinate devices, but it is better to use
string literals for that, especially if the given one is used just once.

To eliminate unnecessary overhead related to acpi_device_name()
handling, rework multiple core ACPI device drivers to stop setting
acpi_device_name() for struct acpi_device objects manipulated
by them and use a string literal instead of it where applicable.

Linus Torvalds bf4afc53b7 Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

Kees Cook 69050f8d6d treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

After commit 0edb555a65 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove()
return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for
platform drivers.

Convert all platform drivers below drivers/acpi to use .remove(), with
the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As
.remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done
by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer.

The AC driver uses struct acpi_driver to register itself while it would
be more logically consistent to use struct platform_driver for this
purpose, because the corresponding platform device is present and the
role of struct acpi_device is to amend the other bus types. ACPI devices
are not meant to be used as proper representation of hardware entities,
but to collect information on those hardware entities provided by the
platform firmware.

Use struct platform_driver for registering the AC driver.

Rafael J. Wysocki 470508f63a ACPI: bus: Add context argument to acpi_dev_install_notify_handler()
Add void *context arrgument to the list of arguments of
acpi_dev_install_notify_handler() and modify it to pass that argument
as context to acpi_install_notify_handler() instead of its first
argument which is problematic in general (for example, if platform
drivers used it, they would rather get struct platform_device pointers
or pointers to their private data from the context arguments of their
notify handlers).

Make all of the current callers of acpi_dev_install_notify_handler()
take this change into account so as to avoid altering the general
functionality.

For bus-based driver, device removal is implemented as:
1 device_remove()->
2   bus->remove()->
3     driver->remove()

Driver core needs no inform from callee(bus driver) about the
result of remove callback. In that case, commit fc7a6209d5
("bus: Make remove callback return void") forces bus_type::remove
be void-returned.

Now we have the situation that both 1 & 2 of calling chain are
void-returned, so it does not make much sense for 3(driver->remove)
to return non-void to its caller.

So the basic idea behind this change is making remove() callback of
any bus-based driver to be void-returned.

This change, for itself, is for device drivers based on acpi-bus.

Hans de GoedeandRafael J. Wysocki 57a1832222 ACPI / x86: Introduce an acpi_quirk_skip_acpi_ac_and_battery() helper
Some x86 ACPI boards have broken AC and battery ACPI devices in their ACPI
tables. This is often tied to these devices using certain PMICs where the
factory OS image seems to be using native charger and fuel-gauge drivers
instead.

So far both the AC and battery drivers have almost identical checks for
these PMICs including both of them having a DMI based mechanism to force
usage of the ACPI AC and battery drivers on some boards even though one
of these PMICs is present, with the same 2 boards listed in both driver's
DMI tables for this.

The only difference is that the AC driver checks for 2 PMICs and the
battery driver only for one. This has grown this way because the other
(Whiskey Cove) PMIC is only used on a few boards (3 known boards) and
although some of these do have non working ACPI battery devices, their
_STA method always returns 0, but that really should not be relied on.

This patch factors out the shared checks into a new
acpi_quirk_skip_acpi_ac_and_battery() helper and moves the AC and
battery drivers over to this new helper.

Note the DMI table is shared with acpi_quirk_skip_i2c_client_enumeration()
and acpi_quirk_skip_serdev_enumeration(), because boards needing DMI quirks
for either of these typically also have broken AC and battery ACPI devices.

The ACPI_QUIRK_SKIP_ACPI_AC_AND_BATTERY quirk is not set yet on boards
already in this DMI table, to avoid introducing any functional changes
in this refactoring patch.

Besided sharing the code between the AC and battery drivers this
refactoring also moves this quirk handling to under #ifdef CONFIG_X86,
removing this x86 specific code from non x86 ACPI builds.

Let GK45 not go into BIOS for determining the AC power state.

The BIOS wrongly returns 0, so hardcode the power state to 1.

The mini PC GK45 by Besstar Tech Lld. (aka Kodlix) just runs
off AC. It does not include any batteries. Nevertheless BIOS
reports AC off:
