Pull s390 updates from Heiko Carstens:
- Provide a new interface for dynamic configuration and deconfiguration
of hotplug memory, allowing with and without memmap_on_memory
support. This makes the way memory hotplug is handled on s390 much
more similar to other architectures
- Remove compat support. There shouldn't be any compat user space
around anymore, therefore get rid of a lot of code which also doesn't
need to be tested anymore
- Add stackprotector support. GCC 16 will get new compiler options,
which allow to generate code required for kernel stackprotector
support
- Merge pai_crypto and pai_ext PMU drivers into a new driver. This
removes a lot of duplicated code. The new driver is also extendable
and allows to support new PMUs
- Add driver override support for AP queues
- Rework and extend zcrypt and AP trace events to allow for tracing of
crypto requests
- Support block sizes larger than 65535 bytes for CCW tape devices
- Since the rework of the virtual kernel address space the module area
and the kernel image are within the same 4GB area. This eliminates
the need of weak per cpu variables. Get rid of
ARCH_MODULE_NEEDS_WEAK_PER_CPU

When a zero ASCE is passed to the __ptep_rdp() inline assembly, the
generated instruction should have the R3 field of the instruction set to
zero. However the inline assembly is written incorrectly: for such cases a
zero is loaded into a register allocated by the compiler and this register
is then used by the instruction.
This means that selected TLB entries may not be flushed since the specified
ASCE does not match the one which was used when the selected TLB entries
were created.
Fix this by removing the asce and opt parameters of __ptep_rdp(), since
all callers always pass zero, and use a hard-coded register zero for
the R3 field.

KVM: s390: A bugfix and a performance improvement
* Improve interrupt cpu for wakeup, change the heuristic to decide wich
vCPU to deliver a floating interrupt to.
* Clear the pte when discarding a swapped page because of CMMA; this
bug was introduced in 6.16 when refactoring gmap code.
KVM run fails when guests with 'cmm' cpu feature and host are
under memory pressure and use swap heavily. This is because
npages becomes ENOMEN (out of memory) in hva_to_pfn_slow()
which inturn propagates as EFAULT to qemu. Clearing the page
table entry when discarding an address that maps to a swap
entry resolves the issue.

The s390 implementation of ptep_modify_prot_start() currently does
preempt_disable(), and the preempt_enable() is done later in
ptep_modify_prot_commit(). This logic is not really required, because the
PTE lock must be held over the complete prot_start/commit transaction,
as described in the comment of the generic implementation of
ptep_modify_prot_start().
That comment also mentions that this interface should be batchable,
and modify_prot_start_ptes() might start a transaction over a batch of
PTEs, implemented as a simple loop over ptep_modify_prot_start().
In this case, the preempt_disable() in ptep_modify_prot_start() would
be called multiple times, before the corresponding preempt_enable()
calls happen, and this can lead to a preempt_count overflow.
To fix this, simply remove the preempt_disable/enable() calls in
ptep_modify_prot_start/commit(), and rely on the PTE lock being held.
Commit cac1db8c3a ("mm: optimize mprotect() by PTE batching") made use
of this PTE batching for the first time, and triggers warnings like this:
DEBUG_LOCKS_WARN_ON((preempt_count() & PREEMPT_MASK) >= PREEMPT_MASK - 10)
BUG: sleeping function called from invalid context at mm/mprotect.c:576
Hence, add a Fixes tag on that commit. Not because it is broken, but to
make sure that it won't get backported w/o also this fix for s390.

Heiko writes:
"The recent large kernel Rust thread where Linus commented about that
structures may be returned in registers [1] made me again aware that this
is not true for s390 where the ABI defines that structures are returned in
a return value buffer allocated by the caller. This was also mentioned by
Alexander Gordeev a couple of weeks ago.
In theory the -freg-struct-return compiler flag would allow to return small
structures in registers, however that has not been implemented for
s390. Juergen Christ did an experimental gcc implementation which shows the
benefit of such a change (bloat-o-meter):
add/remove: 3/2 grow/shrink: 12/441 up/down: 740/-7182 (-6442)
This result is not very impressive, and doesn't seem to justify a new ABI
for the kernel.
However there is still the existing STRICT_MM_TYPECHECKS which can be used
to change some mm types from structures to simple scalar types. Changing
the mm types results in:
add/remove: 2/8 grow/shrink: 25/116 up/down: 3902/-6204 (-2302)
Which is already a third of the possible savings which would be the result
of the described ABI change.
Therefore add support for a configurable STRICT_MM_TYPECHECKS which allows
to generate better code, but also allows to have type checking for debug
builds."

It turns out that while s390 architecture calls its memory-I/O mapping
variants write-through and write-back the implementation of ioremap_wt()
and pgprot_writethrough() does not match Linux notion of ioremap_wt().
In particular Linux expects ioremap_wt() to be weaker still than
ioremap_wc(), allowing not just gathering and re-ordering but also reads
to be served from cache. Instead s390's implementation is equivalent to
normal ioremap() while its ioremap_wc() allows re-ordering.
Note that there are no known users of ioremap_wt() on s390 and the
resulting behavior is in line with asm-generic defining ioremap_wt() as
ioremap(), if undefined, so no breakage is expected.
As s390 does not have a mapping type matching the Linux notion of
ioremap_wt() and pgprot_writethrough(), simply drop them and rely on the
asm-generic fallbacks instead.

By default page protection definitions like PAGE_RX have the _PAGE_NOEXEC
bit set. For older machines without the instruction execution protection
facility this bit is not allowed to be used in page table entries, and
therefore must be removed.
This is done at a couple of page table walkers, but also at some but not
all page table modification functions like ptep_modify_prot_commit(). Avoid
all of this and change the page, segment and region3 protection definitions
so that the noexec bit is masked out automatically if the instruction
execution-protection facility is not available. This is similar to what
also various other architectures do which had to solve the same problem.
