Chandan SomaniandKevin Wolf 9f0c763e16 block: enable stats-intervals for storage devices
This patch allows stats-intervals to be used for storage
devices with the -device option. It accepts a list of interval
lengths in JSON format.

It configures and collects the stats in the BlockBackend layer
through the storage device that consumes the BlockBackend.

Steve SistareandFabiano Rosas e56ba1878f pflash: fix cpr
During normal migration, new QEMU creates and initializes memory regions,
then loads the preserved contents of the region from vmstate.

During CPR, memory regions are preserved in place, then the realize
method initializes the regions contents, losing the old contents. To
fix, skip the re-init during CPR.

Manos PitsidianakisandStefan Hajnoczi 954b33daee hw/block/block.c: improve confusing blk_check_size_and_read_all() error
In cases where a device tries to read more bytes than the block device
contains, the error is vague: "device requires X bytes, block backend
provides Y bytes".

This patch changes the errors of this function to include the block
backend name, the device id and device type name where appropriate.

Stefan Hajnoczi d5eaeefbda pflash: fix sectors vs bytes confusion in blk_pread_nonzeroes()
The following expression is incorrect because blk_pread_nonzeroes()
deals in units of bytes, not sectors:

                                              ^^^^^^^

BDRV_REQUEST_MAX_BYTES is the appropriate constant.

Kevin WolfandCédric Le Goater 3c6f3f65ea pflash: Fix blk_pread_nonzeroes()
Commit a4b15a8b introduced a new function blk_pread_nonzeroes(). Instead
of reading directly from the root node of the BlockBackend, it reads
from its 'file' child node. This can happen to mostly work for raw
images (as long as the 'raw' format driver is in use, but not actually
doing anything), but it breaks everything else.

Fix it to read from the root node instead.

Xiang ZhengandKevin Wolf a4b15a8b9e pflash: Only read non-zero parts of backend image
Currently we fill the VIRT_FLASH memory space with two 64MB NOR images
when using persistent UEFI variables on virt board. Actually we only use
a very small(non-zero) part of the memory while the rest significant
large(zero) part of memory is wasted.

So this patch checks the block status and only writes the non-zero part
into memory. This requires pflash devices to use sparse files for
backends.

Markus Armbruster e2c1c34f13 include/block: Untangle inclusion loops
We have two inclusion loops:

       block/block.h
    -> block/block-global-state.h
    -> block/block-common.h
    -> block/blockjob.h
    -> block/block.h

       block/block.h
    -> block/block-io.h
    -> block/block-common.h
    -> block/blockjob.h
    -> block/block.h

I believe these go back to Emanuele's reorganization of the block API,
merged a few months ago in commit d7e2fe4aac.

Fortunately, breaking them is merely a matter of deleting unnecessary
includes from headers, and adding them back in places where they are
now missing.

Denis V. LunevandKevin Wolf 62a6c300f1 block: add missed block_acct_setup with new block device init procedure
Commit 5f76a7aac1 is looking harmless from
the first glance, but it has changed things a lot. 'libvirt' uses it to
detect that it should follow new initialization way and this changes
things considerably. With this procedure followed, blockdev_init() is
not called anymore and thus block_acct_setup() helper is not called.

This means in particular that defaults for block accounting statistics
are changed and account_invalid/account_failed are actually initialized
as false instead of true originally.

This commit changes things to match original world. There are the following
constraints:
* new default value in block_acct_init() is set to true
* block_acct_setup() inside blockdev_init() is called before
  blkconf_apply_backend_options()
* thus newly created option in block device properties has precedence if
  specified

Vladimir Sementsov-OgievskiyandKevin Wolf 64631f3681 block: drop BLK_PERM_GRAPH_MOD
First, this permission never protected a node from being changed, as
generic child-replacing functions don't check it.

Second, it's a strange thing: it presents a permission of parent node
to change its child. But generally, children are replaced by different
mechanisms, like jobs or qmp commands, not by nodes.

Graph-mod permission is hard to understand. All other permissions
describe operations which done by parent node on its child: read,
write, resize. Graph modification operations are something completely
different.

The only place where BLK_PERM_GRAPH_MOD is used as "perm" (not shared
perm) is mirror_start_job, for s->target. Still modern code should use
bdrv_freeze_backing_chain() to protect from graph modification, if we
don't do it somewhere it may be considered as a bug. So, it's a bit
risky to drop GRAPH_MOD, and analyzing of possible loss of protection
is hard. But one day we should do it, let's do it now.

One more bit of information is that locking the corresponding byte in
file-posix doesn't make sense at all.

Akihiko OdakiandStefan Hajnoczi 12a521b56d block: Add backend_defaults property
backend_defaults property allow users to control if default block
properties should be decided with backend information.

If it is off, any backend information will be discarded, which is
suitable if you plan to perform live migration to a different disk backend.

If it is on, a block device may utilize backend information more
aggressively.

By default, it is auto, which uses backend information for block
sizes and ignores the others, which is consistent with the older
versions.

Roman KaganandKevin Wolf 4f44bbc5bb block: make BlockConf size props 32bit and accept size suffixes
Convert all size-related properties in BlockConf to 32bit. This will
accommodate bigger block sizes (in a followup patch). This also allows
to make them all accept size suffixes, either via DEFINE_PROP_BLOCKSIZE
or via DEFINE_PROP_SIZE32.

Also, since min_io_size is exposed to the guest by scsi and virtio-blk
devices as an uint16_t in units of logical blocks, introduce an
additional check in blkconf_blocksizes to prevent its silent truncation.

Roman KaganandKevin Wolf c56ee92fcb block: consolidate blocksize properties consistency checks
Several block device properties related to blocksize configuration must
be in certain relationship WRT each other: physical block must be no
smaller than logical block; min_io_size, opt_io_size, and
discard_granularity must be a multiple of a logical block.

To ensure these requirements are met, add corresponding consistency
checks to blkconf_blocksizes, adjusting its signature to communicate
possible error to the caller. Also remove the now redundant consistency
checks from the specific devices.

Markus Armbruster 06f1521795 pflash: Require backend size to match device, improve errors
We reject undersized backends with a rather enigmatic "failed to read
the initial flash content" error. For instance:

    $ qemu-system-ppc64 -S -display none -M sam460ex -drive if=pflash,format=raw,file=eins.img
    qemu-system-ppc64: Initialization of device cfi.pflash02 failed: failed to read the initial flash content

We happily accept oversized images, ignoring their tail. Throwing
away parts of firmware that way is pretty much certain to end in an
even more enigmatic failure to boot.

Require the backend's size to match the device's size exactly. Report
mismatch like this:

    qemu-system-ppc64: Initialization of device cfi.pflash01 failed: device requires 1048576 bytes, block backend provides 512 bytes

Improve the error for actual read failures to "can't read block
backend".

To avoid duplicating even more code between the two pflash device
models, do all that in new helper blk_check_size_and_read_all().

The error reporting can still be confusing. For instance:

    qemu-system-ppc64 -S -display none -M taihu -drive if=pflash,format=raw,file=eins.img  -drive if=pflash,unit=1,format=raw,file=zwei.img
    qemu-system-ppc64: Initialization of device cfi.pflash02 failed: device requires 2097152 bytes, block backend provides 512 bytes

Leaves the user guessing which of the two -drive is wrong. Mention
the issue in a TODO comment.
