Getting this recorder was Margaret's idea. Said we should document things for posterity, whatever that means. The news has been bad lately - China situation's getting worse by the day. Defense stocks are through the roof, which is great for my portfolio, but Sarah keeps asking why we need to practice those drills at school.
I told her not to worry. Vault-Tec sent us our reservation confirmation yesterday. We're all set if anything happens. Still seems like overkill to me, but Margaret insists.

Power's been spotty all day. They're saying it's scheduled maintenance, but Jenkins next door thinks they're diverting everything to the military installations. He's paranoid, always has been, but I saw three Vertibirds fly over this morning. That's not normal.
Supermarket was picked clean of canned goods. Had to drive to Lexington just to find beans. Margaret's filling the basement with supplies now. Maybe Jenkins isn't so paranoid after all.

Air raid sirens just went off. This isn't a drill - I can see the panic in people's eyes through the window. Margaret's grabbing Sarah, we're heading to the vault right now.

Fort Strong Quartermaster Report
Date: October 15, 2077
Quartermaster: Staff Sergeant E. Hayes
Current ammunition stores at 67% capacity. Requested emergency resupply of 5.56mm and fusion cells denied by Central Command. Redirected to "priority operations." Fourth denial this month.
Power armor maintenance bay requisitioned additional fusion cores. Request approved, but delivery timeline extended to six weeks. Typical bureaucratic nonsense. How am I supposed to keep T-51s operational with fusion cores dating back to 2075?
Morale's dropping. Men can feel something's coming. We're not ready.

The Pan-Immunity Virion project continues to exceed our projections. Subject batch FEV-Delta shows remarkable resistance to radiation exposure - up to 300 rads with minimal cellular degradation.
Colonel Spindel keeps pushing for accelerated human trials. I've voiced my concerns about the psychological side effects observed in primate subjects, but he's not interested in "theoretical risks." This is weapons research, not medicine, and they want results yesterday.

Security breach. Multiple subjects have escaped containment. The alarm's been going for twenty minutes and no one's responding. I can hear them in the halls - they're not human anymore, they're not anything I recognize.
I'm sealing the lab. If you find this, do not attempt to replicate the FEV formula. We thought we were creating super soldiers. We created monsters. God forgive us.

Re: Q3 Performance and Quantum Launch
Gentlemen,
Nuka-Cola Quantum's military contract exceeded projections by 340%. The boys in Washington can't get enough of the stuff. Public sales have been strong, though we're getting complaints about the glowing effect. Marketing says it's a feature - I say we're lucky nobody's sued us yet.
RnD wants to discuss "concerns" about the isotope levels. Tell them the formula's approved and we're not changing it now, not with this kind of revenue. If they push back, remind them who signs their paychecks.
Production's ramping up the Nuka-World facility for the Victory variant launch. Partnership with the military's solid gold. War's good for business, turns out.

<title>Introduction</title>
<content>
Congratulations! You're now part of the Vault-Tec family - America's premier provider of post-nuclear survival solutions!
This manual covers advanced closing techniques for our premium vault packages. Remember: fear is your friend. The customer might hesitate at the price point, but think of it as selling peace of mind.
Common objections and responses:
"It's too expensive" - Is your family's survival worth less than a new car?
"The war won't happen" - Are you willing to bet your children's lives on that?
"Government will protect us" - The government is who recommended Vault-Tec!
Close that sale, and remember - we're not just selling vaults. We're selling tomorrow!

<title>Handling Technical Questions</title>
<content>
If customers ask about specific technical specifications, stick to approved talking points. DO NOT discuss:
- Actual construction timelines
- Vault capacity calculations
- Life support system limitations
- Corporate partnerships with federal agencies
Most vaults are still under construction, but customers don't need those details. Focus on the dream: safety, community, and the American way of life continuing underground.
If pressed, remind them that specific technical information is classified for security purposes. National security is always a conversation ender.

<title>Day Unknown</title>
<content>
Found this recorder in an old electronics store. Battery's still good, somehow. Don't know why I'm bothering - prob nobody's gonna hear this. But talking to myself beats talking to the roaches.
Been thirty days since I left the vault. Maybe forty. Hard to keep track when every day's just survival. The city's gone - I mean, I knew it would be, but seeing it? Different story.
Water's the biggest problem. Found a stream near the old expressway, but it glows at night. Can't be good, but it's water. Managed to trap a two-headed deer yesterday. Meat's stringy, tastes like burnt plastic, but it beats starving.

<title>Later</title>
<content>
Ran into another survivor today. First person I've seen in weeks who wasn't trying to kill me or asking for help I couldn't give. She had a geiger counter - real lucky find. Said the radiation's worse south of here, near the Glowing Sea.
She's heading north, looking for some settlement she heard about. Asked if I wanted to come, but I don't trust groups. People do bad things when they're scared and hungry. Seen enough of that already.
She gave me a tip about a bunker though. Might check it out. Could be supplies, could be raiders, could be worse. That's the wasteland - everything's a gamble.

<entryNumber>3</entryNumber>
<title>Final Entry</title>
<content>
Found the bunker. Wasn't raiders - something worse. Those creatures they warned us about in the vault. Green, massive, angry. Nearly didn't make it out.
I'm hurt bad. Leg's torn up, bleeding won't stop. Barricaded myself in this building, but I can hear them outside. Should've gone north with that woman. Should've done a lot of things different.
If someone finds this, there's supplies cached at the expressway overpass, mile marker 47. Water pump and some rad-away. Good luck out there. You're gonna need it.

<title>Incident Report 47-B</title>
<content>
Date: October 21, 2077
Location: Downtown Boston, Market District
Reporting Officer: Sgt. K. Martinez, Badge 2847
At approximately 1400 hours, crowd estimated at 2,000+ civilians began gathering near city hall. Protest initially peaceful - standard anti-war demonstration. Signs, chanting, you know the drill.
Situation deteriorated at 1527 when military convoy passed through intersection. Protestors blocked vehicles. National Guard deployed tear gas. That's when things went sideways.
Casualties: 14 civilians, 3 guardsmen, 6 officers. Multiple fires. Looters hit three blocks of storefronts before we got control. Captain ordered live ammo authorized. First time I've seen that in peacetime.
City's under curfew now. Boston PD's stretched thin. Half the force called in sick or just didn't show. Can't blame them - this isn't what we signed up for. We're supposed to protect and serve, not occupy our own streets.

<title>Trade Routes</title>
<content>
If you're hearing this, you either bought this tape off my corpse or I finally decided to share what I know. Either way, here's twenty years of hard-earned wasteland knowledge.
Route from Diamond City to Bunker Hill: Safe-ish if you stick to the old highway. Watch for raiders near the collapsed overpass at marker 19. They hit convoys there - good ambush spot, lots of cover. Go around through Lexington if you're smart.
Water sources: College Square fountain still produces clean-ish water. Needs filtering, but it won't kill you. Stay away from the radiated pools near the Glowing Sea border - no amount of caps is worth that exposure.
Best scavenging: Old financial district has good tech if you don't mind the feral ghouls. They're thick in there, but they don't organize like raiders. Hit and run, don't get cornered.

<title>Trading Tips</title>
<content>
Trading post at Oberland Station's got fair prices on ammo. Owner's trustworthy - rare thing out here. Don't try to short her, though. She's got friends.
Avoid Covenant. They're paranoid about synths, test everyone who comes through. Lost three good trading partners to their "screening process." Not worth the risk.
If you find pre-war cigarettes, hold onto them. Worth their weight in clean water. Same with coffee - real coffee, not that mutfruit seed crap they try to pass off. Old-world luxuries command premium prices.
Medical supplies are always in demand. Every settlement needs stimpaks and rad-away. Learn to recognize what's still good versus what's degraded. Spoiled meds'll get you worse than a bad reputation - they'll get you killed.

<title>Research Log - New Plague Variant</title>
<content>
Atlanta CDC - Biosafety Level 4
Research Lead: Dr. Sarah Chen
Date: August 12, 2077
The New Plague variant isolated from Denver shows disturbing mutations. Standard antibiotic treatments proving ineffective. Mortality rate in untreated cases: 87%.
Federal government's requisitioned all our data. They're not sharing distribution plans for the vaccine we developed. Military priority, they said. What about the general population?
Dr. Morrison thinks it's engineered. The mutation pattern's too specific, too targeted. If he's right, this isn't natural evolution - someone made this. But who would create something this deadly? And why?
</content>
</li>
<li>
<entryNumber>2</entryNumber>
<title>Final Notes</title>
<content>
Last entry. They're evacuating CDC personnel to "secure facilities." Translation: we're being moved to military installations.
I've hidden samples and research data in the secure freezers. Maybe someone will find it, continue the work. The vaccine works - I've tested it myself. Formula's in the lab database, file code: NP-277-CHEN.
If civilization survives what's coming, you'll need this. The plague won't care who won the war.
To whoever finds this: the key to synthesizing the vaccine requires pre-war medical equipment and stable power. Good luck. We're all going to need it.

Listen up. Don't care who you are or where you're from - if you're planning to head through the quarry south of here, you're making a fatal mistake.
There's deathclaws nesting in those ruins. Not one or two - I counted at least a dozen. Big ones. Saw them take down a full caravan guard in under a minute. Eight armed men, dead before they could even scatter.
These aren't like the stories you've heard. These things are fast, smart, and mean as hell. Claws'll tear through metal like paper. Saw one bite clean through power armor helmet.
Alternative route adds three days to your travel time. Take it. I don't care if you're on a schedule. Dead men don't keep appointments.
Marked safe paths on my map, but I'm keeping that. This recording's all you get. Learn from other people's mistakes or join them in the dirt. Your choice.

Dad,
I got it! Junior programmer at RobCo! Starting salary is $45,000 - can you believe it? They said my work on the Protectron subroutines impressed the hell out of them.
I know you wanted me to finish my degree first, but this is the opportunity of a lifetime. RobCo's government contracts are through the roof right now. War's good for the tech sector, I guess.
Tell Mom I'll make it home for Thanksgiving. Tell her NOT to worry - RobCo's facility is way outside Boston. Even if something happens (it won't), I'm nowhere near any targets.
Love you,

Team,
Pentagon's pushing back on the Mr. Handy delay. I tried explaining that the combat subroutines need another six months of testing, but they want units deployed by Q1 2077.
I'm not comfortable rushing this. The civilian models work fine, but weaponizing them without proper failsafes? We're talking about autonomous units with flamethrowers and saws operating in civilian areas.
Emily raised the same concerns last week and got reassigned to "administrative duties." Take from that what you will.
Ship what they want. Document everything.

Mom got me this stupid digital diary for my birthday. Says I should "document my thoughts" instead of "moping around." Whatever. At least it's password protected.
School started again. Same boring classes, same awful cafeteria food. Mrs. Henderson tried teaching us about the "glorious victory" in Anchorage. Half the class has family in the military. Nobody wants to hear propaganda.
Jake asked if I wanted to go to the drive-in this weekend. I said maybe. He's cute but also kind of an idiot. Is that mean? Probably.
Dad came home late again. Works at that defense plant outside town. Won't talk about what he does there, which is weird because he used to brag about his job all the time.

They kept saying our families should "invest in the future" and showing pictures of happy people underground. Most kids were just passing notes and not paying attention.
Jake whispered that his dad called it a scam. Said the vaults aren't even finished and Vault-Tec's just taking deposits from scared people.
I don't know. Mom seems really worried lately. She keeps stockpiling canned food in the basement. Dad just stares at the TV when the news is on.

We're supposed to go to the vault but there's so many people, the roads are jammed.

<title>Location: Old Subway Station - Red Line</title>
<content>
Date: Hell if I know anymore. Spring, maybe?
Location: Red Line subway, between stops
Finds: 3 cans (2 spoiled), 1 intact lighter, medical supplies (partial)
Got into the old subway tunnels today. Dark as hell, had to use my last good battery. Worth it though - found a stash in one of the maintenance rooms. Somebody holed up there after the bombs, never made it out.
Skeleton still had a medkit strapped to them. Bandages are dry-rotted but the alcohol swabs are sealed. Score.
WARNING: Ghouls in the eastern tunnels. Heard them but didn't see them. Avoid that section. Not worth it.
TECH NOTE: Found some pre-war terminals still have power. Most don't boot, but a few do. Might be worth checking for data. Some of the old office buildings had employee records, supply manifests, stuff that could lead to other caches.

<title>Location: Financial District Towers</title>

Location: Office tower, Financial District (SW corner)
Finds: Cigarettes (valuable), coffee (REAL coffee!), pre-war money (worthless but good fire starter)
Climbed twelve floors today. My legs are killing me but holy shit was it worth it.
Top floor executive offices are pristine - sealed doors kept the radiation out. Found an executive suite with a stash of pre-war luxuries. Guy was clearly preparing to ride out something, had a cot and supplies hidden behind a fake wall panel.
Cigarettes alone are worth a fortune. Coffee's even better. Could trade this for enough supplies to last me months.
DANGER NOTE: Building's structurally questionable. Heard creaking on the way down. Don't push your luck. Get in, get out.

<content>
BROTHERHOOD OF STEEL - EASTERN CHAPTER
Technical Assessment Report
Filed by: Scribe Valdez
Date: Post-War Year 184
Subject: T-60 Power Armor Recovery and Analysis
SUMMARY:
Recovered T-60 series power armor from military checkpoint. Armor sustained moderate damage but core systems intact. Fusion core depleted but salvageable.
TECHNICAL NOTES:
T-60 represents significant advancement over T-45 series. Improved protection, better servo response, enhanced targeting systems. Pre-war military clearly spared no expense.
Armor plating shows evidence of directed energy weapons - scoring consistent with Chinese pulse weapons. Occupant did not survive, but armor integrity preserved remains long enough for medical team to identify unit insignia. 1st Armored Division, Fort Strong.
SALVAGE PRIORITY: HIGH
Recommend immediate transport to Citadel for full analysis. Elder Maxson will want to review personally.

<title>Maintenance Protocol Update</title>
<content>
TO: All Scribes and Paladins
FROM: Head Scribe Haylen
RE: T-60 Integration and Training
Brothers and Sisters,
Following Scribe Valdez's assessment, Elder Maxson has approved integration of recovered T-60 power armor into active duty rotation. This is a significant technological advancement for our chapter.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
All Paladins must complete T-60 certification before deployment. Servo configurations differ from T-45 and T-51 models. Failure to adapt could result in equipment damage or operator injury.
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE:
Fusion cores: Inspect every 30 days
Servo joints: Lubricate every 2 weeks
Armor integrity: Scan after every combat engagement
Technology like this is why we fight. It's our sacred duty to preserve and protect mankind's greatest achievements. Do not take this responsibility lightly.
Ad Victoriam.

<content>
[DECRYPTION SUCCESSFUL]
FROM: Control Station ENCLAVE
TO: All Regional Commands
CLASSIFICATION: OMEGA - EYES ONLY
SUBJECT: Continuity of Government - Phase 3
Fellow Americans,
The United States government endures. While the surface world burned, we preserved the true America - its leadership, its values, its destiny.
Phase 3 of the Reclamation Initiative is now active. Our advanced technology and pure bloodlines position us to reclaim the wasteland from the mutated hordes that now infest our homeland.
OPERATIONAL PRIORITIES:
1. Technology Recovery - Secure all pre-war military assets
2. Population Assessment - Identify uncontaminated human populations
3. Wasteland Pacification - Eliminate hostile mutant threats
Remember: We are not conquerors. We are liberators. America never fell - it merely waited for the right moment to return.
FOR THE ENCLAVE. FOR AMERICA.

<title>Field Report - Patrol Echo-7</title>
<content>
PATROL DESIGNATION: Echo-7
COMMANDING OFFICER: Captain Morrison
LOCATION: Commonwealth Sector 4-B
STATUS: Routine reconnaissance
SITREP:
Patrol encountered small settlement of wastelanders. Population approximately 40 individuals. Radiation exposure evident but subjects mobile and coherent.
Subjects became hostile when approached. Warning shots fired. Two subjects neutralized, remainder fled.
ASSESSMENT:
Local populations remain primitively hostile to Enclave presence. Recommend intimidation protocols continue until proper authority is reestablished.
Recovered one functioning laser weapon from settlement. Pre-war military issue, modified extensively. Evidence suggests significant technical knowledge among wastelanders. Unexpected.
Requesting permission to establish observation post in sector. More data required.
STANDING BY FOR ORDERS.

<title>Patrol Report - Eastern Frontier</title>
<content>
NEW CALIFORNIA REPUBLIC
Ranger Division - Eastern Territories
Filed by: Veteran Ranger Jackson
Date: 2284
SITUATION REPORT:
Completed three-week patrol of eastern frontier sectors. Route covered approximately 200 miles through contested territory.
OBSERVATIONS:
Local settlements remain neutral toward NCR presence. Trade routes stable. No major raider activity this patrol cycle.
Legion scouts spotted twice - both times at extreme range, both times retreated before engagement. They're watching us, staying cautious. Smart.
SUPPLY NOTE:
Ammunition expenditure minimal (23 rounds, target practice). Food stores adequate. Water situation critical in sector 7 - local wells contaminated. Recommend supply convoy bring extra purification tablets.
RECOMMENDATION:
Frontier's quiet. Too quiet. Legion's planning something. Request additional recon patrols in sectors 8 through 12.
Long live the Republic.

<title>Personal Log - Off the Record</title>
<content>
This one's just for me. Command doesn't need to see it.
Twenty years I've been a Ranger. Seen the NCR grow from a collection of farmers with hunting rifles to a proper nation. We've got laws now, elections, taxes - all the things that make civilization work.
But out here on the edge, I wonder sometimes if we're spreading too thin. Every mile east is another mile we have to defend. Another settlement that needs protection. Another squad of troopers who might not come home.
Met a wastelander today, old-timer who remembered the world before NCR. He asked me if we were any different from the old America - expanding, conquering, calling it democracy.
I didn't have a good answer.
We're better than the Legion, that's for damn sure. But are we good enough? Are we really building something that'll last, or just another empire waiting to collapse?
Twenty years wearing this armor, and I'm still not sure.
But I'll keep doing the job. That's what Rangers do.

<title>Intelligence Assessment - NCR Forces</title>
<content>
FOR THE GLORY OF CAESAR
Intelligence Report - Frumentarii Operations
Agent: Vulpes Inculta
Target: New California Republic, Eastern Frontier
INTELLIGENCE SUMMARY:
NCR forces in eastern territories number approximately 300 combat-effective personnel. Morale adequate but not exceptional. Supply lines stretched thin - vulnerability.
Ranger presence limited to four-man teams conducting wide area patrols. Response time to most settlements: 6-8 hours. Exploitable.
LOCAL SENTIMENT:
Tribal populations under NCR "protection" show mixed loyalty. Many resent NCR taxation, regulations, interference with traditional ways. Caesar's message of strength and simplicity resonates with those who remember tribal freedom.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Destabilize NCR supply routes through targeted raids. Minimal Legion footprint - use local raiders, pay in caps and weapons. NCR will waste resources hunting raiders while Legion prepares true offensive.
Simultaneously, undermine NCR authority through propaganda. Emphasize NCR weakness, corruption, distance from true wasteland realities. Position Legion as strong horse versus NCR's hollow promises.
Ave Caesar. True to Caesar.

<title>Philosophical Observations</title>
<content>
Personal reflections, for Caesar's consideration:
I have walked among the NCR for months now, wearing their clothes, speaking their words. They do not suspect. They see what they expect to see - another wasteland drifter seeking NCR's "protection."
What strikes me most is their weakness disguised as virtue. They speak of rights, laws, democracy - concepts that mean nothing in the wasteland. A man's rights extend exactly as far as his ability to defend them. This is natural law.
Caesar understands what they do not: the strong must rule. Not through deception or false promises of equality, but through undeniable strength. The Legion does not lie to its subjects. We offer security through absolute power.
NCR is a dying dream, clinging to the corpse of the old world. They try to rebuild what failed once already. Caesar builds something new - something fit for the wasteland that exists, not the world they wish existed.
I have seen their weakness. When Legion comes, they will break.
True to Caesar. Ave Caesar.

GREAT KHANS - RED ROCK CANYON
Chemical Operations Log
Recorded by: Jack (Head Chemist)
Been working on a new Psycho variant. Standard formula works, but I think we can do better. Market's competitive - gotta stand out.
ENHANCED PSYCHO FORMULA:
Base Psycho components (standard)
+ Additional stimpak synthesis compounds
+ Brahmin adrenal extract (fresh, within 6 hours)
Mix ratio 3:2:1, heat to 140 degrees, stabilize with buffout base
EFFECTS:
Longer duration than standard Psycho (tested on volunteer Khan warriors)
Enhanced pain suppression
Minimal additional side effects
PRODUCTION NOTES:
Need fresh brahmin glands - can't stockpile. Production limited to weekly batches. Creates supply bottleneck but ensures quality.
Papa Khan approved for trade operations. Fiends are buying everything we can produce. Good caps, no questions.
Remember: Khans don't use, we sell. Keep your head clear, your lab clean, and your profits high.

<title>Personal Thoughts</title>
<content>
Sometimes I wonder what my great-grandfather would think, seeing what the Khans have become.
Used to be we were warriors, raiders, free people of the wasteland. Now we're drug dealers, hiding in canyons, selling poison to desperate addicts.
Papa Khan says it's survival. Says the NCR pushed us here, took our territory, killed our people. Says we do what we must to endure.
Maybe he's right. Khans adapt or die. Always have.
But I remember the stories of the old days. Before New Vegas, before theNCR, when the Khans ruled the wastes through strength, not chemistry.
We used to be great. Now we're just good at making drugs.
Not sure that's the same thing.
Still, it's what we got. Keep mixing, keep selling, keep the tribe alive. That's all that matters.
For the Khans.
