Piotr Osiewicz 84f4d2630f node_runtime: Use user/global configuration when using system node installation (#26209)
This partially reverts https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/3324
We will still blank out user/global config when running managed NPM, to
keep to the spirit of #3324 (which was made at the time we did not allow
user-provided NPM builds - the intent of the change was to make the
behavior of NPM as consistent as possible).

I tested this change by:
1. Setting up a custom NPM registry via Versaccio
2. Adding this new registry to my .npmrc
3. Mirroring `vscode-langservers-extracted` to it
4. Blocking access to `registry.npmjs.org`
5. Opening up settings.json file in Zed Nightly
- Verifying that language server update fails for it
6. Opening up Zed Dev build of this branch
- Confirming that language server update check goes through for it

Closes #19806
Closes #20749
Closes #9422

Release Notes:

- User and global .npmrc configuration is now respected when running
user-provided NPM binary (which also happens automatically when `npm`
from PATH is newer than 18.0.0)

Marshall Bowers 16e9b4ceeb typescript: Improve installation checks for vtsls (#20197)
This PR improves the installation checks for `vtsls`.

Previously we were checking the installed version of TypeScript against
the latest available version to determine whether we needed to installed
the `vtsls` language server or not.

However, these are two independent concerns, so we should be checking
individually whether `typescript` or `@vtsls/language-server` need to be
installed/updated.

Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/18349.

Release Notes:

- typescript: Fixed an issue where `@vtsls/language-server` may not have
been updated to the latest version.

Release Notes:

- (Potentially breaking change) Zed will now use the node installed on
your $PATH (if it is more recent than v18) instead of downloading its
own. You can disable the new behavior with `{"node":
{"disable_path_lookup": true}}` in your settings. We do not yet use
system/project-local node_modules.

张小白 4976a9e9d8 windows: Fix eslint installation (#15331)
Close #13786. To make `eslint` running on Windows, I made the following
changes:

1. Ensure that `zed` downloads the `.zip` file.
2. Handle the `$shared` symbolic link by copying files to the link
location.
3. In #13891, I mentioned that the `npm` `post-install` script was
always failing. After debugging, I found it was due to missing
environment variables. This has been fixed, and I will submit a new PR
to address the changes in #13891.

With this PR, `eslint` can now successfully run on Windows. Video:

Marshall Bowers 258a8a37d8 Extract paths out of util (#13182)
This PR extracts the definition of the various Zed paths out of `util`
and into a new `paths` crate.

`util` is for generic utils, while these paths are Zed-specific. For
instance, `gpui` depends on `util`, and it shouldn't have knowledge of
these paths, since they are only used by Zed.

张小白 b451af4906 Fix npm install error with some languages (#12087)
If you have already installed `node` using `brew install node`, you are
fine. If you did not install `node` on you local machine, it fails.

The `node_binary` path is actually not included in environment variable.
When run `npm install`, some extensions like `eslint`, may run some
commands like `sh -c node .....`. Since `node_binary` path is not
included in `PATH` variable, `sh -c node ...` will fail complaining that
"command not found". If you have installed `node` before, `node` is
already included in `PATH`, so you are fine. If not, it fails.

Closes #11890

Release Notes:

- Fixed Zed's internal Node runtime not being put in `$PATH` correctly
when running language servers and other commands with `node`.

Max Brunsfeld d699b8e104 Allow extensions to define more of the methods in the LspAdapter trait (#9554)
Our goal is to extract Svelte support into an extension, since we've
seen problems with the Tree-sitter Svelte parser crashing due to bugs in
the external scanner. In order to do this, we need a couple more
capabilities in LSP extensions:

* [x] `initialization_options` - programmatically controlling the JSON
initialization params sent to the language server
* [x] `prettier_plugins` - statically specifying a list of prettier
plugins that apply for a given language.
* [x] `npm_install_package`

Joseph T. Lyons 276139f792 Implement updating for node-based language servers (#9361)
Fixes: https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/9234

This doesn't address `vue` as it has a slightly different install code,
but it should be fairly simple to add - I'll add it in in a follow-up.

This PR will allow all (except `vue`) node-based language servers to
update. It is mostly just throwing in a method into the `NodeRuntime`
trait that is used for checking if a package doesn't exist locally, or
is out of date, by checking the version against what's newest, and
installing. If any parsing of the `package.json` data fails along the
way, it assumes something has gone awry on the users system, logs the
error, and then proceeds with trying to install the package, so that
users don't get stuck on version if their package has some bad data.
Outside of adding this method, it just adds that check in all of the
language server's individual `fetch_server_binary` methods.
