f5ff79fddf dma-mapping: remove CONFIG_DMA_REMAP
CONFIG_DMA_REMAP is used to build a few helpers around the core
vmalloc code, and to use them in case there is a highmem page in
dma-direct, and to make dma coherent allocations be able to use
non-contiguous pages allocations for DMA allocations in the dma-iommu
layer.

Right now it needs to be explicitly selected by architectures, and
is only done so by architectures that require remapping to deal
with devices that are not DMA coherent.  Make it unconditional for
builds with CONFIG_MMU as it is very little extra code, but makes
it much more likely that large DMA allocations succeed on x86.

This fixes hot plugging a NVMe thunderbolt SSD for me, which tries
to allocate a 1MB buffer that is otherwise hard to obtain due to
memory fragmentation on a heavily used laptop.

f3c4b1341e swiotlb: use depends on for DMA_RESTRICTED_POOL
Use depends on instead of select for DMA_RESTRICTED_POOL; otherwise it
will make SWIOTLB user configurable and cause compile errors for some
arch (e.g. mips).

faf4ef823a dma-direct: add support for dma_coherent_default_memory
Add an option to allocate uncached memory for dma_alloc_coherent from
the global dma_coherent_default_memory.  This will allow to move
arm-nommu (and eventually other platforms) to use generic code for
allocating uncached memory from a pre-populated pool.

Note that this is a different pool from the one that platforms that
can remap at runtime use for GFP_ATOMIC allocations for now, although
there might be opportunities to eventually end up with a common codebase
for the two use cases.

0b84e4f8b7 swiotlb: Add restricted DMA pool initialization
Add the initialization function to create restricted DMA pools from
matching reserved-memory nodes.

Regardless of swiotlb setting, the restricted DMA pool is preferred if
available.

The restricted DMA pools provide a basic level of protection against the
DMA overwriting buffer contents at unexpected times. However, to protect
against general data leakage and system memory corruption, the system
needs to provide a way to lock down the memory access, e.g., MPU.

6d4e9a8efe driver core: lift dma_default_coherent into common code
Lift the dma_default_coherent variable from the mips architecture code
to the driver core.  This allows an architecture to sdefault all device
to be DMA coherent at run time, even if the kernel is build with support
for DMA noncoherent device.  By allowing device_initialize to set the
->dma_coherent field to this default the amount of arch hooks required
for this behavior can be greatly reduced.

65789daa80 dma-mapping: add benchmark support for streaming DMA APIs
Nowadays, there are increasing requirements to benchmark the performance
of dma_map and dma_unmap particually while the device is attached to an
IOMMU.

This patch enables the support. Users can run specified number of threads
to do dma_map_page and dma_unmap_page on a specific NUMA node with the
specified duration. Then dma_map_benchmark will calculate the average
latency for map and unmap.

A difficulity for this benchmark is that dma_map/unmap APIs must run on
a particular device. Each device might have different backend of IOMMU or
non-IOMMU.

So we use the driver_override to bind dma_map_benchmark to a particual
device by:
For platform devices:

8d8d53cf8f dma-mapping: Allow mixing bypass and mapped DMA operation
At the moment we allow bypassing DMA ops only when we can do this for
the entire RAM. However there are configs with mixed type memory
where we could still allow bypassing IOMMU in most cases;
POWERPC with persistent memory is one example.

This adds an arch hook to determine where bypass can still work and
we invoke direct DMA API. The following patch checks the bus limit
on POWERPC to allow or disallow direct mapping.

This adds a ARCH_HAS_DMA_MAP_DIRECT config option to make the arch_xxxx
hooks no-op by default.

0de327969b cma: decrease CMA_ALIGNMENT lower limit to 2
On an embedded system with a tiny (1 MiB) CMA area for video memory, and
a simple enough video pipeline, we can decrease the CMA_ALIGNMENT by a
factor of 2 to avoid wasting memory, as all the allocations for video
buffers will be of the exact same size (dictated by the size of the
screen).

ef1a85b6ca dma-mapping: fix DMA_OPS dependencies
Driver that select DMA_OPS need to depend on HAS_DMA support to
work.  The vop driver was missing that dependency, so add it, and also
add a another depends in DMA_OPS itself.  That won't fix the issue due
to how the Kconfig dependencies work, but at least produce a warning
about unmet dependencies.

b7176c261c dma-contiguous: provide the ability to reserve per-numa CMA
Right now, drivers like ARM SMMU are using dma_alloc_coherent() to get
coherent DMA buffers to save their command queues and page tables. As
there is only one default CMA in the whole system, SMMUs on nodes other
than node0 will get remote memory. This leads to significant latency.

This patch provides per-numa CMA so that drivers like SMMU can get local
memory. Tests show localizing CMA can decrease dma_unmap latency much.
For instance, before this patch, SMMU on node2  has to wait for more than
560ns for the completion of CMD_SYNC in an empty command queue; with this
patch, it needs 240ns only.

A positive side effect of this patch would be improving performance even
further for those users who are worried about performance more than DMA
security and use iommu.passthrough=1 to skip IOMMU. With local CMA, all
drivers can get local coherent DMA buffers.

Also, this patch changes the default CONFIG_CMA_AREAS to 19 in NUMA. As
1+CONFIG_CMA_AREAS should be quite enough for most servers on the market
even they enable both hugetlb_cma and pernuma_cma.
2 numa nodes: 2(hugetlb) + 2(pernuma) + 1(default global cma) = 5
4 numa nodes: 4(hugetlb) + 4(pernuma) + 1(default global cma) = 9
8 numa nodes: 8(hugetlb) + 8(pernuma) + 1(default global cma) = 17

5848dc5b1b dma-debug: remove debug_dma_assert_idle() function
This remoes the code from the COW path to call debug_dma_assert_idle(),
which was added many years ago.

Google shows that it hasn't caught anything in the 6+ years we've had it
apart from a false positive, and Hugh just noticed how it had a very
unfortunate spinlock serialization in the COW path.

He fixed that issue the previous commit (a85ffd59bd: "dma-debug: fix
debug_dma_assert_idle(), use rcu_read_lock()"), but let's see if anybody
even notices when we remove this function entirely.

NOTE! We keep the dma tracking infrastructure that was added by the
commit that introduced it.  Partly to make it easier to resurrect this
debug code if we ever deside to, and partly because that tracking by pfn
and offset looks quite reasonable.

The problem with this debug code was simply that it was expensive and
didn't seem worth it, not that it was wrong per se.

d35834c648 dma-mapping: add a dma_ops_bypass flag to struct device
Several IOMMU drivers have a bypass mode where they can use a direct
mapping if the devices DMA mask is large enough.  Add generic support
to the core dma-mapping code to do that to switch those drivers to
a common solution.

1fbf57d053 dma-direct: re-enable mmap for !CONFIG_MMU
nommu configfs can trivially map the coherent allocations to user space,
as no actual page table setup is required and the kernel and the user

dbed452a07 dma-pool: decouple DMA_REMAP from DMA_COHERENT_POOL
DMA_REMAP is an unnecessary requirement for AMD SEV, which requires
DMA_COHERENT_POOL, so avoid selecting it when it is otherwise unnecessary.

The only other requirement for DMA coherent pools is DMA_DIRECT_REMAP, so
ensure that properly selects the config option when needed.

e860c299ac dma-remap: separate DMA atomic pools from direct remap code
DMA atomic pools will be needed beyond only CONFIG_DMA_DIRECT_REMAP so
separate them out into their own file.

This also adds a new Kconfig option that can be subsequently used for
options, such as CONFIG_AMD_MEM_ENCRYPT, that will utilize the coherent
pools but do not have a dependency on direct remapping.

For this patch alone, there is no functional change introduced.
