Eric Dumazet 807540baae drivers/net: return operator cleanup
Change "return (EXPR);" to "return EXPR;"

return is not a function, parentheses are not required.

Joe Perches a4b770972b drivers/net: Remove unnecessary returns from void function()s
This patch removes from drivers/net/ all the unnecessary
return; statements that precede the last closing brace of
void functions.

It does not remove the returns that are immediately
preceded by a label as gcc doesn't like that.

It also does not remove null void functions with return.

Done via:
$ grep -rP --include=*.[ch] -l "return;\n}" net/ | \
  xargs perl -i -e 'local $/ ; while (<>) { s/\n[ \t\n]+return;\n}/\n}/g; print; }'

with some cleanups by hand.

Compile tested x86 allmodconfig only.

Eric Dumazet 1ae5dc342a net: trans_start cleanups
Now that core network takes care of trans_start updates, dont do it
in drivers themselves, if possible. Drivers can avoid one cache miss
(on dev->trans_start) in their start_xmit() handler.

Exceptions are NETIF_F_LLTX drivers

Uwe Kleine-König 1ebb5a1aa9 don't use __devexit_p to wrap meth_remove
The function meth_remove is defined using __exit, so don't use __devexit_p
but __exit_p to wrap it.

Uwe Kleine-König dd93667711 net: move meth's probe function to .devinit.text
A pointer to meth_probe is passed to the core via
platform_driver_register and so the function must not disappear when the
.init sections are discarded. Otherwise (if also having HOTPLUG=y)
unbinding and binding a device to the driver via sysfs will result in an
oops as does a device being registered late.

An alternative to this patch is using platform_driver_probe instead of
platform_driver_register plus removing the pointer to the probe function
from the struct platform_driver.

Patrick McHardy 6ed106549d net: use NETDEV_TX_OK instead of 0 in ndo_start_xmit() functions
This patch is the result of an automatic spatch transformation to convert
all ndo_start_xmit() return values of 0 to NETDEV_TX_OK.

Some occurences are missed by the automatic conversion, those will be
handled in a seperate patch.

The generic packet receive code takes care of setting

Drivers need not do it any more.

Some cases had to be skipped over because the drivers
were making use of the ->last_rx value themselves.

Kay Sievers 72abb46101 net drivers: fix platform driver hotplug/coldplug
Since 43cc71eed1, the platform modalias is
prefixed with "platform:". Add MODULE_ALIAS() to the hotpluggable network
platform drivers, to re-enable auto loading.

NOTE: didn't change drivers/net/fs_enet/fs_enet-main.c "old binding" support.
That looks problematic in the first place (it even uses the ancient "struct
device_driver" binding scheme for platform_bus!) and I suspect it will vanish
soonish when arch/powerpc rules the world. Also, drivers/net/ne.c would have
needed more thought to sort out.

Thomas Bogendoerfer edba2a1fef [METH]: Fix MAC address handling.
meth didn't set a valid mac address during probing, but later during
open. Newer kernel refuse to open device with 00:00:00:00:00:00 as mac
address -> dead ethernet. This patch sets the mac address in the probe
function and uses only the mac address from the netdevice struct when
setting up the hardware.

Adrian Bunk 87ae9afdca cleanup asm/scatterlist.h includes
Not architecture specific code should not #include <asm/scatterlist.h>.

This patch therefore either replaces them with
#include <linux/scatterlist.h> or simply removes them if they were
unused.

Jeff Garzik 09f75cd7bf [NET] drivers/net: statistics cleanup #1 -- save memory and shrink code
We now have struct net_device_stats embedded in struct net_device,
and the default ->get_stats() hook does the obvious thing for us.

Run through drivers/net/* and remove the driver-local storage of
statistics, and driver-local ->get_stats() hook where applicable.

This was just the low-hanging fruit in drivers/net; plenty more drivers
remain to be updated.

Ralf Baechle 09e06f652d Don't use GFP_DMA for zone allocation.
IP32 doesn't even have a ZONE_DMA so no point in using GFP_DMA in any
IP32-specific device driver.

Ralf Baechle e971290133 meth driver renovation
The meth ethernet driver for the SGI IP32 aka O2 is so far still an old
style driver which does not use the device driver model. This is now
causing issues with some udev based gadgetry in debian-stable. Fixed by
converting the meth driver to a platform device.

Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo d626f62b11 [SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_copy_from_linear_data{_offset}
To clearly state the intent of copying from linear sk_buffs, _offset being a
overly long variant but interesting for the sake of saving some bytes.
