Using "yes | mkfs.ext4 ..." results in the error message results in
the test failing, at least for some versions of e2fsprogs:
+yes: standard output: Broken pipe
+yes: write error
It better to use the -F option, which will eliminate the questions.

Some file system configurations don't support fallocate, which is
required for e4defrag to run. So add a _require_xfs_io_command to
prevent a test failure if fallocate isn't supported in (for example)
ext3 compatibility mode.

Check data integrity and layout stability during defrag compacting
EXT4_IOC_MOVE_EXT swap extents between target and donor inode.
If ioctl was performed twice then inode's layout should not change.

EXT4_MOVE_EXTENT is ready to support case where orig_offset != donor_offset.
This case is usable for compacting small files together.
Test generate file hierarchy via fsstress and then compact all files
to one adjacent block.

b5b6077 ext4: fix wrong assert in ext4_mb_normalize_request()
Meanwhile make minor changes to _scratch_mkfs_ext4() in common/rc,
_scratch_mkfs_ext4() might fail due to conflicts between being passed options
and MKFS_OPTIONS. We fix this by ignoring MKFS_OPTIONS if it fails the first
time(see _scratch_mkfs_xfs()), as suggested by Lukas Czerner.

Currently we're checking file system consistency on TEST_DEV after every
successful test run even though the TEST_DEV might not even be used in
that test.
Fix it by introducing _require_test to for the test ti indicate that
it's about to use TEST_DEV.
Also add _require_test to the new script so that this requirement is a
default.

There are about 198 tests which requires scratch_dev, but does not check
the file system consistency afterwards. Xfstests infrastructure does not
do it automatically, so fix it by running _check_scratch_fs() after
each test that _require_scratch.
Also remove all the _check_scratch_fs() calls that are not actually needed
and will be covered by the check script.

If TEST_DEV or SCRATCH_DEV is symlink(mostly a lvm lv), a simple
basename is not enough, symlink should be followed.
This task is common enough, so introduce new helper functions and
replace all readlink calls in

Number of helpers for checking xfs_io functionality is slowly
growing. But it's as easy to simply use _require_xfs_io_command()
directly and just specify the command we want to check. It will also
avoid the need to create helper every time we need to check a new
command in xfs_io.
Remove all the helpers and use _require_xfs_io_command() in the
tests.

Ext4/001 fails when run on a file system that does not support byte range
zeroing. For example, an EOPNOTSUPP failure occurs when the test is run
on a pre-3.15 extent-mapped file system. The code in the test intended
to prevent this contains an apparent typo that results in a check for
fallocate() rather than zero range support.

mke2fs ext4 without extent feature will fail if 64bit feature is
enabled in mke2fs.conf
mke2fs 1.42.9 (28-Dec-2013)
Extents MUST be enabled for a 64-bit filesystem. Pass -O extents to rectify.
So disable 64bit feature together with extent explicitly.

This is based on xfs/242. However it's better to make it file system
specific because the range can be zeroes either directly by writing
zeroes, or converting to unwritten extent, so the actual result might
differ from file system to file system. Also xfs results differ
depending on the page size which is not the case for ext4.

ext4/306 will fail when mounting the ext3 file system it creates if an
ext3-incompatible mount option is applied by _scratch_mount. This can
happen if EXT_MOUNT_OPTIONS is defined appropriately in the test
environment. For example, the block_validity option is commonly used
to enhance ext4 testing, and it is not supported by ext3.
Fix this by instead creating an ext4 file system without extents as a
functionally equivalent substitute. This will also eliminate a
dependency for ext3 support on the test system.

The -F flag to xfs_io originally enabled it to operate on non-xfs
filesystems. This restriction was removed upstream in favor of
gracefully failing on the handful of operations that actually
required xfs, and the option was deprecated.
However, xfstests is still used on distros with older xfsprogs, and
so "xfs_io -F" was necessary throughout xfstests.
Simplify this by appending -F to XFS_IO_PROG when it's needed -
i.e. if we're using old xfsprogs on a non-xfs filesystem.
This will eliminate errors when new tests leave out the -F, and
if and when -F is finally removed, there will be one central
location in xfstests to update.

xfstests have some change on the organization of the testcases
and common* files:
* The common* scripts have been reorganized into the common/ dir.
* The testcases have been reorganized into sub test dirs under tests/.
* The run.* scripts have been removed.
This patch uses the simple way to make install support above changes:
Make up one Makefile for each newly created subdirs, which can control
'make install' separately.
v2 introduces the following changes compared with v1:
* Ignore the file 'group' under the top dir, for it's useless in the new
structures.
* Remove the redundant comments in the Makefiles.
* Use XXX_DIR instead of XXX_SUBDIR in the Makefiles under common/ and tests/.
* Export TESTS_DIR in teh top level Makefile instead of tests/Makefile.
* Obtain the names of dirs for testcases by iterating sub dirs under /tests,
not by enumeration in tests/Makefile.

Introduce a top level common directory and move all the common.*
files into it. Because there is now a directory named common, the
prefix can be dropped from all the files. Convert all the tests to
use this new directory for including common files.

Essentially the change is simply this. Converting:
... >> $seq.????
to:
.... >> $RESULT_DIR/$seq.????
so that output files are directed to the defined output directory.
sed to the rescue:
$ sed -i -e '/^seq=.*$/a seqres=$RESULT_DIR/$seq' -e 's/seq.full/seqres.full/' tests/*/*
will do most of the work automatically.
