Python 2.6 should stick with PyString_* in its codebase.  The PyBytes_* names
in the spirit of 3.0 are available via a #define only.  See the email thread.

7bd33c5e22 This change implements the following gettext features, as 
discussed recently in python-dev:

In _locale module:

- bind_textdomain_codeset() binding

In gettext module:

- bind_textdomain_codeset() function
- lgettext(), lngettext(), ldgettext(), ldngettext(),
  which return translated strings encoded in
  preferred system encoding, if
  bind_textdomain_codeset() was not used.
- Added equivalent functionality in translate()
  function and catalog classes.

Every change was also documented.

Our saved locale was not being freed.  Also check correct variable for
NULL.

73d538b9c6 Always initialize Py_FileSystemDefaultEncoding on Unix in Py_Initialize, 
and not as a side effect of setlocale. Expose it as sys.getfilesystemencoding.
Adjust test case.
