Still investigating on the hanging test_socket.
the test itself doesn't do anything on windows, focus on setUp and tearDown.

- Modifying tests for basic types to use __format__ methods, instead
of builtin "format".
- Adding PyObject_Format.
- General str/unicode cleanup discovered when backporting to 2.6.
- Removing datetimemodule.c's time_format, since it was identical
to date_format.
The files in Objects/stringlib that implement PEP 3101 (stringdefs.h,
unicodedefs.h, formatter.h, string_format.h) are identical in trunk
and py3k. Any changes from here on should be made to trunk, and
changes will propogate to py3k).

This adds signal.set_wakeup_fd(fd) which sets a file descriptor to
which a zero byte will be written whenever a C exception handler runs.
I added a simple C API as well, PySignal_SetWakeupFd(fd).

Multiple reinitializations of Python 3.0 failed on a system without a hardcoded default fs encoding. The patch makes sure that the default fs encoding is freed and reset to NULL on e.g. Linux.
I've also taken the liberty to increase the debugging in Objects/object.c:_Py_ForgetReference(). The method is used to validate the reference chain.
Reinitialization still fails in the 3rd round of my test suite:

Fatal Python error: UNREF invalid object
No detailed change log; just check out the change log for the py3k-pep3137
branch. The most obvious changes:
- str8 renamed to bytes (PyString at the C level);
- bytes renamed to buffer (PyBytes at the C level);
- PyString and PyUnicode are no longer compatible.
I.e. we now have an immutable bytes type and a mutable bytes type.
The behavior of PyString was modified quite a bit, to make it more
bytes-like. Some changes are still on the to-do list.
