Clean up PyString_Size().
Removed string_getsize(), since it was only useful when PyString_AsStringAndSize was able to convert an (ascii) Unicode object to a C string. |

Fixed issue #1564: The set implementation should special-case PyUnicode instead of PyString
I moved the unicode_eq to stringlib/eq.h to keep the function static and possible inline for setobject.c and dictobject.h. I also removed the unused _PyString_Eq method. If it's required in the future it can be added to eq.h |

Removed blocks from several functions in unicodeobject and stringobject where a PyString function was still checking for PyUnicode or the other way around.
PyUnicode and PyString shouldn't magically convert the other type. |

Merging the py3k-pep3137 branch back into the py3k branch.
No detailed change log; just check out the change log for the py3k-pep3137 branch. The most obvious changes: - str8 renamed to bytes (PyString at the C level); - bytes renamed to buffer (PyBytes at the C level); - PyString and PyUnicode are no longer compatible. I.e. we now have an immutable bytes type and a mutable bytes type. The behavior of PyString was modified quite a bit, to make it more bytes-like. Some changes are still on the to-do list. |
